Cork has a charm like no other and is regarded as a cosy place to live.
Cork is technically the HQ of Johnson Controls, a major energy control company, with a good size office on the Albert's Quay.
Cork as well is the biggest County in Ireland with beautiful areas to visit along the coast.. also Irish do not love a fight , that refers to the traveling community who are a law unto themselves otherwise Cork is a safe City to live, visit etc
Cork is nice overall, been living here 15 years. However in recent times, the cost of living has reallt spiralled out of control. I realise the same can be said of many other European cities, however lack of housing supply has seriously compounded the issue in Cork.
Trying to find a rented property often turns into a bidding war with 100s of applications for any property that goes on the market.
I've heard of many people in the rental market offering above asking price.
The supply shortage has become so bad that even if you've got the money, there's absolutely no guarantee you'll find somewhere to rent.
Many listings are only accepting inquiries by email.
Situation is not as bad as Dublin yet, but quickly catching up..
the housing is shocking or the lack of them
I think its like that everywhere in western and European countries. The wealthy didn't plan on such huge workforces...Time to tax the billionairs.
Cork is also good for sports - surfing (Inchydoney), yachting (Kinsale), football (soccer), rugby union, cricket and golf. The city is a tech hub. Apple has its European HQ there together with about 50 other tech firms. Cork is also developing a wind farm with Shell & Simply Blue Energy. It’s a safe, middle class city & ideal for families. Downsides are housing shortage & prices & cost of living generally.
I am living in Cork City I am very happy👍❤️
Hi guys, great video and cool to see my city! But you might want to include something about Ireland's housing crisis. It's the worst we've ever experienced. There's so much competition when it comes to rentals and landlords are raising their prices constantly. If you have pets you can forget about it!
Yes, really good points 👍it's a total shambles!
Thank you very much. It's currently not a thing unique to Ireland.
I love Cork - AND it’s on the doorstep of the SW coast! :)
Cork is super cool.
Born in USA BUT RAISED in CORK....Ballincollig to be exact! Ballincollig was mostly Farmland and basically a Stop Sign on the Road to Macroom when we first moved back to Cork when I was 8. Since then it has gotten a Lot Bigger I hear. I have DUAL CITIZENSHIP! My Father was born in Prosperity Square, Cork City and my Mom was born in Belfast. Moved back to USA when I was 18 due to lack of employment and better opportunities. Still have family all over Ireland! Would LOVE to return to retire but I'm concerned about Cost of Living, Crime and the Illegal Immigrant Issues.
Where does Ireland rank in crime rate?
According to the Global Peace Index, Ireland is one of the top 3 safest countries on the planet. A place where it would be good to live and travel, without fear for your safety. The study is based on a precise rating system, which assesses the level of crime, violence and corruption in each country
Lived around the corner from prosperity Square, your father came from a great area.
Great video!!!! Great intel… thanks
I am an O'Leary ; so my roots are here . Born in Bayonne, N.J. now in Tecumseh, Michigan. Been to Ireland twice; 1985 for 9 days ; 2019 for 17 days. Oldest daughter received her Masters degree for " The Burren College of Art " U. of Ireland.
Congrats 👏🏻 👏🏻

Glad you could make it.
As a Cork man, I considder Cork to be Ireland`s third largest city, after Dublin and of course Belfast. Cork, like everywhere else in the republic, subsidizes Dublin which is known as a parasite city, in Ireland. Even so, it still kicks Dublin`s butt in terms of value and everything else. Cork is nice. A happy place.
Thanks for sharing. - Josh & Kalie
What an ignorant statement! The fact is Cork is subsidised by Dublin -- an UNESCO City of Culture. Dublin collects 56% of all taxes gathered by the Irish state as well as distributing non tax gifts and subsidies to sports clubs and venues in Cork and elsewhere, including the much hyped GAA ground. Cork city is only a small fraction of Dublin's size and I think all reasonable people understand that parasites are always a lot smaller than the Bodies responsible for keeping them alive. Everything in Cork city is subsidised!
Watched this with my over-the-ear headphones and just want to say I love the sound effect after the "Let's Get Moving" close. 70s-era classic rock record producers would approve!
HAHA, thanks, Eric!
Nice rebound Kalie at 10:09. 😂😂
Didn’t know much about Cork so thanks for enlightening me. However, not planning to be pushing up daisies in Cork or elsewhere any time soon. 😅
Great work as always. 👍🏻
LOL
Good call!
Car share is an option for digital nomads
great vid
That Cork accent is crazy.
I mean cheaper sure but paying 800+ for a ROOM is typical
The accent? Yeah, it's a fair cop, but I gotta tell you, that 'vocal fry' isn't too easy on the ear, either!
'Richest country in the World'? I think that's what's called 'juking the stats'. Or maybe it's the crazy income the landlords are raking in, what with all those (Kof! Koff!) 'digital nomads' (hipsters) raising the asking prices... I mean, as you say, it's a problem everywhere, but without wishing to do Dublin down (or Cork) - Berlin, or Paris, it ain't!
And that city wall - have you _seen_ it?! Let's hope the Vikings aren't back any time soon! (I think they could've been the ones that built it, but you get my point!)
details of cork city part time jobs
Hi, I live in Cork and would really want to know where did you find houses for those prices :)
What would be a real price for a studio or one bedroom?
@@mariar3767 to buy? Good luck finding anything... In major cities in Ireland there are no houses at all, easier to buy. Impossible to rent or it will cost you a small fortune with a huge queue of potential tenants.
@@catchapl to rent . Just for 1 person to get a room 😬 to live ?
"Irish people are so stinkin' nice"!! So true!!!! I would not expat that, but love to visit!!!
:-) Fair enough.
This video is about Cork City and not Cork as a whole
Correct.
Very good
Thank you.
I am Irish born in county cork it is the largest county in Ireland not Dublin but Dublin is the capital but not the biggest hope this helps
Cork County is big, however the city is small - only about 250k population. Dublin is 1.2 m.
My mothers birth home🎉
Cool! Thanks for sharing that with us and watching.
beatfuil city charming and pretty beatfuil city my home by the lee
As a real Corkonian (not one of the 1 million non nationals in IRL in 2023), my view is the following.. Corkonians (real ones) are amazing people. Funny and generous folks. The City itself is still run down in many areas ie buildings in a bad state of repair. The Council is rubbish here. Never seen cleaning etc. Other main issue here is we dont have Police. One rarely sees a Garda on foot for example. It could be a great place if we had investment and a good Council. Never had so..
Thanks for sharing. We lovely parents we spoke to at the part were great. - Josh & Kalie

where is everyone?
Hiding from the camera.
Cork native here and i absolutely would not recommend Cork to anybody looking to settle here long term, like Dublin, it has become extortionately expensive-rental properties pretty much non existent, house-buying generally out of reach for majority of people, eating out is an absurd ripoff (be prepared to spend at least E20 pp for a small brunch with a coffee), gas/diesel all expensive, below-par standard healthcare options unless you get private...Ireland in general is just disproportionately expensive for what you get and there are FAR better options for remote workers in the EU.... My partner and I are in our 30's and we are emigrating soon as are others our age in their droves, simply because the cost of living and unavailable housing needs just make it an unsustainable place to live...would be a great city otherwise as it has real charm but it's just not worth it anymore for a lot of people for the reasons i have mentioned.. great video btw
Thanks for your input! We appreciate hearing that. Keep us posted on where you go next. - Josh & Kalie
Not all of Ireland is part of the EU…
Unfortunately 😢
"Drink a lot and like to fight”, eh? Nothing like regurgitating 19th-century racist tropes as a way to sell a place...
I have lived in Cork for five years and never saw any fighting. I was like... did she really say that? Wow, what a racist she is!!
Isn't Irish an ethnicity and not race? Either way, the intension wasn't that. From our time living abroad, the Irish have been both the funnest/friendliest people we've hung out with and also the ones quickest to throw a punch on a night out drinking. Is that fair to say or no?
From growing up there i can confirm you’re either laughing or fighting.
I used to sit on the fountain on pana after a night out and just watch people fight, this is how it is
Not good news for the religious immigrants as I guess it won't be about laughter then 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
They speak a different language though.
How? They don’t speak English ?
