I agree in that Guilliman himself made the squads have a 'Tactical flexability' into SM squads. GW has made them back to the HH mode of a single purpose
Absolutely agree that primaris tactical inflexibility is a step backwards
Testify, Chris! Tactical options are very much missed.
I'm gonna bring back the tactical look hahahha!!! :D :D
Agree with you regarding the structure of Space Marine squads now.
Because Chaos marines still use Legionaires, Raptor squads and Havoc squads that makes them more codex compliant than the new Primaris marines which I find amusing.
I also agree with you about the vambrace on the left arm. I’ve stocked up on assault squad chainsword arms so I don’t have to use them. I’ll maybe keep them for Van Vets and characters.
I've seen people compare primaris to elder aspects which I hadn't realised before, and whilst it does make some sense, can be cool for fluffy armies that sort of thing.
I honestly think it's a case that they're waiting until they have a squad of each type, then something like killteams (deathwatch) will come along and we can mix and match.
I can see the allure of infernus squads in impulsors for salamanders players, Hellblaster dreadwing units for dark angel players so on and so forth.
But for intercessors and assault intercessors to be so inflexible makes no sense.
I totally agree about the tactical flexibility. I just don’t see a whole lot of use for this squad.
I think the new Sternguard are the closest thing we’re going to get to how I imagine marines should be. Maybe in the future we’ll see a new Primaris Vanguard Veterans kit that’ll be more like these guys should have been.
Thanks for the rant - lol. In a real world, I'm thinking a squad like this would be used for a quick in-and-out mission. Spend too much time on the ground and they're risking their ability to safely fly out. I played them a lot in the original Dawn of War and they'e easily overwhelmed when outnumbered or outgunned. They play very differently on the tabletop. Cheers!
@1:44 great video, love the chat. Would you mind showing the sprues one at a time without another below. It's hard to focus on the bits you are talking about when there is another sprue behind.
Will do!
JP's, JP's, JP's all the way.. :)
Primaris are awesome as models, but the homogeneous nature of both armor and weapons loadout is lame.
As someone who loves to convert, the first thing i did to them was mix in mk3 and 7 to shakethings up a bit.
The weapons thing is a sad, loosing versatility and adaptability in a unit has to suck. Especially for those chapters that like to load up on a lot of the same stuff.
Yeah it sucks. You get a little ‘tactical’ with deathwatch killteams but that’s it for primaris
I think you're right about the tactical flexibility, though the last assault squad was not much better, as it only came with a flamer in the kit for a special weapon. Ultimately they were a relic of a lost age, where one sergeant's power fist and a melta bomb WAS a serious threat to a vehicle. My issues with the new primaris kits is more the reduction of options from previous kits. The new sternguard for instance don't have nearly as much variety in shoulder pad or helmet designs as the old one. It's a shame to get a new kit like that and feel like nothing is gained apart from the rescale. I am hoping they add legends rules for the lost weapon options too but so far they haven't done anything like that.
I completely agree
Nice!
I like both the helmets, I like using mk7 for ancients or models to show veterans of time served type thing
I also dislike the lack of tactical options primaris have. I also hate that all the weapons are left handed.
I wish all new kits came with MK7 heads for all OR even if GW sold like a small helmet upgrade kit that came with like 10-15 MK7 heads you could use use on any unit.
Agreed with the way the new primaris squads are not as fun, hence why for my own custom SM chapter I prefer to use the Deathwatch rules for them. That way I can add in some other weapons through Killteams squads. Would appreciate having special weapons brought back into the squads.
Also why I've been toying around with a homebrew codex, purely for my own amusement of course.
Brother! You and I have the same thoughts on single weapon loadouts for squads. As a veteran of the 40k universe flexibility is key! As for which mark helmet you used at 22:02 its Mark X the whole primaris is Mark X I believe unless someone wishes to correct me
In the 10th edition faction focus preview for Space Wolves they said: _"Instead of Guilliman-approved battle formations, they form their warriors into specialist units like Wolf Guard and Blood Claws, even in the age of Cawl’s Primaris Space Marines."_
To me this read that we were going to get the proper Space Wolves units (ie: Deathwatch style mix and match, I assume separate for each armour type) instead of Intercessors, Hellblasters etc, but no, all modern scale units are indeed in _Guilliman-approved battle formations_ . I guess there's a chance we get this when we get the codex, which is rumoured to be towards the end of the edition...
Oooooooooooh
Good look at the stuff. But its a Vambrace (armoured wrist) not a pauldron (armoured shoulder)....
sorry, my inner pedant got out...wait a minute, if I'm being honest it's not an inner pedant at all🤣🤣🤣
THAT'S the word my mind couldn't find hahaha :D thanks
Also, all the Primaris armours are mk 10 (mysteriously no mk 9 or it might be Grey Knight armour or 7, ate Nine, etc). The various versions such as Gravis, Phobos and Tacticus are modular so they can be combined/interchanged by each individual marine. It is literally additional layers of plate on top of a base powered suit which makes the other verisons which you can see if you compare all of them. It's kind of fun
@@ChrisFrosin No probs. Like the vids, especially the converting. Looking forwards to more.
Mark 7 helmet forever...
hmm ultramarines without priamris helmets? idk chris..... that doesnt seem codex compliant. the claws on the one marine look too rigid, maybe with the sword brethren's claws
I really like your approach on these unit. But i'll never buy this kit myself. The recent GW kits went into a direction i don't appreciate. The Space Marines look more like Toys for kids than grim dark supersoldiers ... with a grown up fanbase. I made myself some jumppack intercessors using the old jump packs by combining them with phobos armour and lots of power swords and power fists. I'm working on my Space Wolves successor chapter and the new company command and sternguard do nothing for me ... great for UM, BA, DA ... but not for chapters that dont follow the knightly/roman esthetics
Customisation is dying for marines....it was the best thing to use the bits box to make up cool marine units/characters that were unique to you. I want a Primaris Captain who uses a storm bolter and thunder hammer or lightening claws and a jump pack because he can chose what he wants hes a CAPTAIN!!
well, the original kits were SUPPOSED to be specialist while the tacticals were supposed to be flexible but since then they have started phasing them all out... i love the primaris line and think they were much needed marines have become too stale but damn.. GW being GW again
I like all helmets. I can't stand helmetless marines though.
There is no flexibility because gw wants to so spend more money on models just so you can get an army that performs ok
>Buys specialist unit
>Unit is specialized
>Anger.
ok.
lololol
