I am a relatively new nurse and just took over a wound care position in a hospital earlier this year. I have found that I really like Coloplast's Triad Hydrophilic wound dressing. It does not necessarily require a secondary dressing and in my opinion, has been quite effective in treating partial and full-thickness pressure injuries. It also adheres to wet skin.
Hey I have something much different. I have a wound from I’ve drug use and I have had it for over two months now. I went to the emergency room and they check if I had a blood infection which I didn’t. They said they would refer me to a burn clinic and the burn clinic just told me two washes it everyday and to apply something called santyl ointment on the wound and then cover it. Before this I was doing the same thing but instead using Vaseline. I feel like the wound really hasn’t healed at all and I have an appointment Dec 15 for a follow up. Don’t know what to do. I feel like the wound just doesn’t heal because it’s always wet idk man.
Go back to the doctor sooner. the doctor treating you can advise you. And when you do ask what to look for that tells you it's getting better. Also ask how will you know if it's getting worse and when you should seek medical attention good luck and stay healthy and safe
The plasters used anciently weren’t plaster. They consisted of thick paste made of herbs covered with strips of cloth bandages. Often the herbs were in a base of puréed onion, garlic or honey. Some commonly used herbs were comfrey, echinacea, plantain, marshmallow and yarrow, which are the basis of some pharmaceuticals in use today.
Nothing like St. John's Wort Oil for wounds! Especialy the one I make, out of fresh Herbs cut this month and the best extra virgin Olive oil in the world. We also make ointments, with bees wax,Olive oil,St John's Wort,Arnica and other herbs, heals wound at least x5 times faster,stops pain completely and acts like an antibiotic,also, it leaves no wound marks after healing and does so much more. People should search for herbs and ointments, they do WAY better job, than anything you'll find in a pharmacy or Hospital. The best ointment I've tried, are made in Crete Island of Greece by Bioroma.These guys also make the best toothpaste by far in the world. It's not an advertisment, I make my own herbs and oils, they just are that good.
Hi, Thanks so much for sharing this information. I'm a patient that has had a zinc Unna boots on both legs with amazingly quick healing on the shins for an 8 inch x 1 inch wide wound. The downside is the Unna boot was created and enlarged foot wounds near the sole and the outside of each foot. Wounds that were small 1/2 inch square are now 1/2 inch by 6 inches and fairly deep. I kept wearing the Unna boot because the shin healing was so dramatic. The weekly changing of the Unna Boot didn't seem to concern the medical people even though I was commenting on the enlargement and increased neuropathy and they were taking measurements I've been educating myself on what is now available. I'm also pre-diabetic. I have been using aloe vera gel as a wound gel and a non-adherent dressing (actually 4 ulcers on one foot and another on the other foot.) Now when I go to the wound clinic to get additional help, I feel like I might be able to ask questions about my care. I do have a medical background - nursing in the mid-70's so I can understand most of what was discussed in the video You didn't mention adhesives for holding dressings in place. I'm using Hypafix which seems to be very light and flexible without much skin damage and I prefer using Hypafix 4 inch width tape. I change the dressings twice a day. The drainage from the wounds make my socks wet. Thanks so much for the description, product examples, and espeically the comment about treat the patient then the wound. I also have skin sensitivity that causes pain and blistering when solutions use Petrolatum - which is the majority of skin wound ointments. Any suggestions on ointments to use that don't have Petrolatum ?
Fantastic video. I wish all surgeons paid this much attention to post-op care! What type of dressing would you suggest during the proliferative and remodeling stages after a degloving injury, where the finger was partially severed and reattached. Sutures are still in (and will be for another week). It's low exudate at this point. From my research, it looks like hydrocolloid might be best during the proliferative stage and then either hydrogel or silicon during remodeling? What do you think? Thanks!
I had a patient that had a small little tiny sacral wound.We don't know where it came from.Wasn't a pressure sore. The way we end up hitting her wound was combining hydro gel mixed with collagen powder
Hi! Thanks for the informative video! I was just wondering what your thoughts are on Medihoney or other Manuka Honey dressings? I was recently in a bicycle accident and I have two wound sites, one on my hand and one on my knee. I had both examined and cleansed at the ER. The one on my hand consisted of two blood blisters that had somewhat popped and became infected within a few hours (I had the red line starting to move up my arm and all). After the nurse cleaned it, I kept it covered with Bactrian, a Tegaderm bandage and a gauze "glove" along with cleansing it with warm compresses and saline plus taking Doxycycline for 7 days as prescribed. This worked well and after three weeks, it's practically completely healed and no longer needs to be dressed. I treated the wound on my knee in the exact same way but it has been slower to heal and the adhesive from the Tegaderm gave me contact dermatitis in the surrounding area. I have decided that I really dislike anything with adhesive so I started using the Bactrian ointment covered with a non-stick pad and used tube gauze to keep it in place. This has been way more comfortable and the contact dermatitis is almost all gone. Unfortunately, the wound has been stubborn to heal and I am still covering it and cleansing it as stated above. I replaced the Bactrian with Aquafer but although it's improving, it's not yet healed enough to leave uncovered. I have decided to try one more thing before going back to the doctor and this is the Medihoney. I bought the ointment, the gauze and the Calcium Alginate dressing. I am excited to see how it works! I have had the Calcium Alginate square on it for twelve hours now: it was literally like putting a firm, flat piece of honeycomb on my wound! My fingers are crossed that this is going to speed my healing! What are your thoughts on Manuka honey dressings for wound care? From everything I have read, it is very effective in keeping wounds moist, it is antimicrobial and it speeds recovery/ healing time without the possible side effects that antibiotic ointments can bring. I'd also like to mention the iodine dressing they used on me at the hospital as it was incredibly effective in keeping my wounds covered, moist and it also seemed to stop the infection dead in its tracks. I didn't think Iodine was used anymore but I'm glad that this old fashioned medicine is still proven effective. They gave me a little to take home but I'm definitely going to try to get some for my new first aid kit. My fingers are crossed that the Medihoney dressings will work because they weren't cheap! In the end I'm ditching any adhesive Band-Aids and tape: the contact dermatitis was miserable and there are way better methods. Thanks again!
Thank you for sharing this. Bicycle accidents are awful experiences all on their own, let alone dealing with the aftermath. Hand injuries - how frustrating! They remind us how we take for granted the ability to pick things up! Thank goodness you were keeping an eye out for the infection and took appropriate measures. You've brought to mind a particularly painful spin-out from a childhood summer; for a week I would spend the day playing outside with dry gauze taped to my elbow and before bed I would impatiently soak this in the bathtub before Mom inevitably opened the whole thing up again by removing the somewhat-assimilated dressing, cleaned it with rubbing alcohol, and attached new gauze to protect it until the next evening. This was a loud process, and I wasn't the only one crying by the end of each session. That sizeable scar is as much a part of my skin as a birthmark. Weren't the '80s a wonderful time? It's been 2 months since your comment and I wonder how the honey dressings worked out for you? With that much difficulty keeping the knee wound treated, I should hope it's not still giving you problems. Also, have you been back on a bike since then?
I am a nurse aide and I'm caring for a patient who had total knee replacement. I've been told to cover the telfa pad with a transparent dressing with a border. However, the transparent dressings I have found both in stores an online are much too short.

Medihoney dressings would fall under hydrocolloid dressings because of that gel forming hydrocolloid layer...partial to full thickness wounds, burn wounds, low to moderately exudative wounds, donor sites from grafting...those could be some indications. So what do you use on a basic cut? Something that's not bad enough for stitches, but you definitely want a band-aid or something. Like say a simple cut on an arm or a leg? Is a band-aid and Neosporin usually good enough? Because that's how I've always tended to do it, but I've noticed I always have some little minuscule scarring no matter how superficial the wound. I always tended to attribute that to not being a vegetable eater, but I'm shocked to just now be learning you don't want scab formation. I thought that's exactly what you wanted. Every wound I've ever had formed a scab and then healed up. So once the scab formed I've always been happy to let it dry out. D'OH! It's stunning to me that a wound can heal without a scab. I'm still not sure I believe it.
What an excellent explanation. Thank you for the video. I would like to know your thoughts on 3D bioprinted smart wound dressings, especially with hydrogels. Does this make any difference in wound healing? Is it practical? If possible please make another video on the smart wound dressings.
You explain the different types of dressing. Could you go over how the dressings are combined? Could you start with a Puracol collagen dressing and cover it with a Hydrofera Blue antibacterial foam dressing and then a Optilock no adhesive dressing and then a ABC dressing for more absorption and gauze wrap to hold everything in place.
The only dressing I use on any wound - open, skin burns, cuts, scrapes is collidal silver. Very effective and heals all wounds from below skin surface/ deep in the tissues upward. Scarring is greatly reduced to non existing.
My Mum currently has a very bad case of pressure wound. The wound area is 30cm x 20cm and 10cm deep. Please can you recommend the best way to treat such wound. Cheers.

I work with many different doctors, several who describe these membranes as nothing short of magic in their ability to promote healing of chronic or hard-to-heal wounds.
I can't put them in order from what I've done but I've put together several playlists. Time is of the essence. Your prompt reply to my question would be so much appreciate. I have an open wound on the right side of my breast. It's a cavity which is about the circumference of a half dollar and a depth of 1.75 CM. The wound specialist office applied and prescribed Advanced Antimicrobial Ribbon Dressing to the open wound. They also spotted what they think is a cancerous lesion. I go see general surgeon tomorrow afternoon. Is this dressing appropriate? I thank you in advance
Hi. Australian skin cancer doctor here. Australia has highest incidence of skin cancer. Basal Cell Cancers are proving to be associated with a recurrence Tsunami. This is probably in the main due to inadequate margins or pathologists have to check out more sections. So , Moh's Micro surgery ( supplemented by immediate frozen section pathology) has become the gold standard....but not readily available in Australia ( Royal College anticompetitive practices , politics and government fears of a blow out of national health costs, and lack of interets compared to MM). So an emerging solution is margin controlled excisions , supported with regular H &E staining etc. But closure of initial wounds , unlike with Moh's will not be on the same day. In fact closure may not happen for 72 hours or more. ..I am thinking how do I dress these full thickness wounds over potentially a 72 hour period. I am thinking, Alginate dressing and a sterile surgical sponge bolster , covered by semi permeable membrane . Further prophylactic antibiotic cover. Alginates will discourage granulation but they will dehydrate the wound bed. Granulation will make delayed wound closure difficult. I think I need something that will also be hydrophilic. 🇨🇦. Thanks for the video. As a patient I’ve had many wounds. The two most troublesome ones were a bedsore on my tailbone from a long time in the hospital. It took 8 months to heal and the home nurses tried many ways. So funny people measuring and taking pictures of my butt. But now I know why they were doing it. The other surgical wound was on my abdomen which opened up and I had to have so many packing strips stuffed in there and pulled out. It did heal eventually but I have had two repeat hernias in that area. Very complicated.
I'm interested in amniotic membrane grafts as a dressing for wounds. You didn't talk about them unless I didn't understand. Can you talk about using them for wound healing.
YOU may have lots of options for wound dressing...but the ordinary person has very few options. You can't even get a nonstick dressing large enough. And docs don't know anything about a wound that is slow to heal. We have a choice of neosporin polysporin or bacitracin or vaseline. That's it. You can't get in to see a wound care specialist for weeks. I'm learning all this wonderful knowledge from you...but I would not have access to any of these materials to help myself.
I did...you still have to buy the material to cover the wound and dress it every day. The materials are very costly for one time use items....yet there are silver nanoparticle dressings that last for a week...which only docs have access to. These dressings absorb exudate and promote healing...unlike ordinary wound dressings found in stores. They should be available to everyone.
In this video you show Xeroform a couple of times, but you never mention it. Do you group it with gauze-basically useless? I was thinking it was non-adherent and could be used as a first layer with gauze over the top. What do you think?
What is more absorbing than optilock covered with a abdominal pad then a 2layer wrap (foam and Coban ). Lymph fluid excessive and going through all those layers
This is a very helpful Wound Education Series. We had some mild to moderate burn patients (like boiling water/sun burn). Based on Up To Date, Mupirocin cream can be used for mild cases. We cover the wound with Mupirocin and non-adherent (Telfa) gauze. For moderate oozing blistering macerated burns, we have Vaseline gauze, Xeroform occlusive gauze or Tegaderm film, supported by 4x4 gauze and Coban. I am wondering what you use for these types of wounds? Thank you.
I like to use bacitracin and aquacel over a second degree burn, first degree just bacitracin…third degree or full thickness have to start thinking about debridement versus silver sulfadiazine (ssd).

I know your comment is approx. 5 months old but I figured I'd answer your question in case of future injuries. It is completely safe to stuff that into the wound. It's very common to go that route for pressure sores as well!
What type of dressing is use for a patient who did surgery for scrotum gangrene? My dad this surgery and we use gauze with nothing on it ,as told by the doctors at the hospital,he wears pampers/catheter . To every time we change his pampers a lot of inflammation,we took him to our local health fercility and the nurse is asking me who is not a heath perfessional how to dress the wound ,I need real help.

Video starts at 7:13 Comercials start at 8:19 Key points: - there are two types of dressings: a) old dressings: they are are useless. b) modern dressings: they are wonderful. - in the past the body was the one that healed itself, but that is not the case anymore, it is the dressing that makes most of the job now. Other things that I may add are: - old dressing are very easy to identify, they are cheap. - modern dressings on the other hand must be extremely expensive (the overbloated medical bill will pay for it, don't worry). Also the list of features they provide, is nearly as long as the amount of money companies are willing to spend on shinny new "scientific" studies.

I want to know why these wound dressings are NOT available in the health system in my country. The one place that does seemingly have these for purchase has the monopoly and people from lower socioeconomic situations have to pay large sums of money to get these dressings. If one looks carefully this business is somehow owned by the only wound care specialist who works in the public health care system in the country 🤨

Some videos are much shorter in lenght and they say that yes covered wounds and a bit of moisture like petroleum jelly heal faster ? I've a lil puncture with it and I didn't know any better and have let it scab . Is it too late I've let in scab and only now applied petroleum jelly and covered it ?
If you’re worried about it definitely see your primary care doc, that being said, a moist environment, whether or not a scab has formed, helps with wound healing. Part of the reason for the length in this video was to describe the various dressings available and how they can be used :). Good luck with your wound I wish you speedy healing.
Certainly however your physician orders it but a lot depends on the wound. Classically wet to dry dressings changed twice daily with healing by secondary intention, but important to clear the infection which may require debridement or drainage.
@@citizensurgeon yeah, he’s not telling me much of anything although his group is touted as a premier sports medicine facility. I had a trimalleolar fracture surgery in June. The infection isn’t bad and it’s getting better with the antibiotic but I didn’t know what to cover it with without sticking. The physical therapist scraped on the scab (ouch), said to use betadine which I did for two weeks but it only dried and cracked it and then the spot of infection appeared. I am now attempting xeroform petrolatum dressing and hope that works. I’m in 70s, in good health with good dietary habits and activity. And no, I don’t live in a remote village in a third world country although it seems so with all the medical treatment I am getting. 😀 I was glad to find your channel.

That was meant to read 2021!! Operation! I am also 77 years of age and entitled to free prescriptions to which i have argued with the medical profession and never got! Hence over £2,000 in supplies, i got it really good until a doctor at the Royal London Hospital stabbed at it continuously with a scalpel and then had the cheek to say he had no idea what it was??? I knew but he never! Isn't that a laugh. Over granulation and contains biofilm!!
Ha...great question...first, removing the impediments to wound healing and then optimizing systemic and local factors :). It's not binary, yes/no, black/white...there is a lot going on.

What will be the best dressing to use on those bed sores may I ask? My mom has a sore on her buttock very close to the crack, so it makes it so difficult for me to tape it and stay intact in that particular area as she moves around while she sits or laid down. So very frustrating!

After the nurse cleaned it, I kept it covered with Bactrian, a Tegaderm bandage and a gauze "glove" along with cleansing it with warm compresses and saline plus taking Doxycycline for 7 days as prescribed. This worked well and after three weeks, it's practically completely healed and no longer needs to be dressed.
I treated the wound on my knee in the exact same way but it has been slower to heal and the adhesive from the Tegaderm gave me contact dermatitis in the surrounding area. I have decided that I really dislike anything with adhesive so I started using the Bactrian ointment covered with a non-stick pad and used tube gauze to keep it in place. This has been way more comfortable and the contact dermatitis is almost all gone. Unfortunately, the wound has been stubborn to heal and I am still covering it and cleansing it as stated above. I replaced the Bactrian with Aquafer but although it's improving, it's not yet healed enough to leave uncovered. I have decided to try one more thing before going back to the doctor and this is the Medihoney. I bought the ointment, the gauze and the Calcium Alginate dressing. I am excited to see how it works! I have had the Calcium Alginate square on it for twelve hours now: it was literally like putting a firm, flat piece of honeycomb on my wound! My fingers are crossed that this is going to speed my healing!
What are your thoughts on Manuka honey dressings for wound care? From everything I have read, it is very effective in keeping wounds moist, it is antimicrobial and it speeds recovery/ healing time without the possible side effects that antibiotic ointments can bring. I'd also like to mention the iodine dressing they used on me at the hospital as it was incredibly effective in keeping my wounds covered, moist and it also seemed to stop the infection dead in its tracks. I didn't think Iodine was used anymore but I'm glad that this old fashioned medicine is still proven effective. They gave me a little to take home but I'm definitely going to try to get some for my new first aid kit. My fingers are crossed that the Medihoney dressings will work because they weren't cheap! In the end I'm ditching any adhesive Band-Aids and tape: the contact dermatitis was miserable and there are way better methods. Thanks again!
Thank you for sharing this. Bicycle accidents are awful experiences all on their own, let alone dealing with the aftermath. Hand injuries - how frustrating! They remind us how we take for granted the ability to pick things up! Thank goodness you were keeping an eye out for the infection and took appropriate measures.
You've brought to mind a particularly painful spin-out from a childhood summer; for a week I would spend the day playing outside with dry gauze taped to my elbow and before bed I would impatiently soak this in the bathtub before Mom inevitably opened the whole thing up again by removing the somewhat-assimilated dressing, cleaned it with rubbing alcohol, and attached new gauze to protect it until the next evening. This was a loud process, and I wasn't the only one crying by the end of each session. That sizeable scar is as much a part of my skin as a birthmark.

I am a nurse aide and I'm caring for a patient who had total knee replacement. I've been told to cover the telfa pad with a transparent dressing with a border. However, the transparent dressings I have found both in stores an online are much too short.

So what do you use on a basic cut? Something that's not bad enough for stitches, but you definitely want a band-aid or something. Like say a simple cut on an arm or a leg? Is a band-aid and Neosporin usually good enough? Because that's how I've always tended to do it, but I've noticed I always have some little minuscule scarring no matter how superficial the wound. I always tended to attribute that to not being a vegetable eater, but I'm shocked to just now be learning you don't want scab formation. I thought that's exactly what you wanted. Every wound I've ever had formed a scab and then healed up. So once the scab formed I've always been happy to let it dry out. D'OH! It's stunning to me that a wound can heal without a scab. I'm still not sure I believe it.

You explain the different types of dressing. Could you go over how the dressings are combined?
Could you start with a Puracol collagen dressing and cover it with a Hydrofera Blue antibacterial foam dressing and then a Optilock no adhesive dressing and then a ABC dressing for more absorption and gauze wrap to hold everything in place.
The only dressing I use on any wound - open, skin burns, cuts, scrapes is collidal silver. Very effective and heals all wounds from below skin surface/ deep in the tissues upward. Scarring is greatly reduced to non existing.

Hi. Australian skin cancer doctor here. Australia has highest incidence of skin cancer. Basal Cell Cancers are proving to be associated with a recurrence Tsunami. This is probably in the main due to inadequate margins or pathologists have to check out more sections. So , Moh's Micro surgery ( supplemented by immediate frozen section pathology) has become the gold standard....but not readily available in Australia ( Royal College anticompetitive practices , politics and government fears of a blow out of national health costs, and lack of interets compared to MM). So an emerging solution is margin controlled excisions , supported with regular H &E staining etc. But closure of initial wounds , unlike with Moh's will not be on the same day. In fact closure may not happen for 72 hours or more. ..I am thinking how do I dress these full thickness wounds over potentially a 72 hour period. I am thinking, Alginate dressing and a sterile surgical sponge bolster , covered by semi permeable membrane . Further prophylactic antibiotic cover. Alginates will discourage granulation but they will dehydrate the wound bed. Granulation will make delayed wound closure difficult. I think I need something that will also be hydrophilic. 🇨🇦. Thanks for the video. As a patient I’ve had many wounds. The two most troublesome ones were a bedsore on my tailbone from a long time in the hospital. It took 8 months to heal and the home nurses tried many ways. So funny people measuring and taking pictures of my butt. But now I know why they were doing it. The other surgical wound was on my abdomen which opened up and I had to have so many packing strips stuffed in there and pulled out. It did heal eventually but I have had two repeat hernias in that area. Very complicated.

YOU may have lots of options for wound dressing...but the ordinary person has very few options. You can't even get a nonstick dressing large enough. And docs don't know anything about a wound that is slow to heal. We have a choice of neosporin polysporin or bacitracin or vaseline. That's it. You can't get in to see a wound care specialist for weeks. I'm learning all this wonderful knowledge from you...but I would not have access to any of these materials to help myself.

I did...you still have to buy the material to cover the wound and dress it every day. The materials are very costly for one time use items....yet there are silver nanoparticle dressings that last for a week...which only docs have access to. These dressings absorb exudate and promote healing...unlike ordinary wound dressings found in stores. They should be available to everyone.
The specialized dressings are pretty cost prohibitive. One small silver alginate 3x5 dressing is about $25
In this video you show Xeroform a couple of times, but you never mention it. Do you group it with gauze-basically useless? I was thinking it was non-adherent and could be used as a first layer with gauze over the top. What do you think?
Xeroform I find useless as an antibacterial but I do find it nice to encourage a moist environment for healing, does that make sense?

This is a very helpful Wound Education Series. We had some mild to moderate burn patients (like boiling water/sun burn). Based on Up To Date, Mupirocin cream can be used for mild cases. We cover the wound with Mupirocin and non-adherent (Telfa) gauze. For moderate oozing blistering macerated burns, we have Vaseline gauze, Xeroform occlusive gauze or Tegaderm film, supported by 4x4 gauze and Coban. I am wondering what you use for these types of wounds? Thank you.
I like to use bacitracin and aquacel over a second degree burn, first degree just bacitracin…third degree or full thickness have to start thinking about debridement versus silver sulfadiazine (ssd).
I should also like to say if there are blisters I like to remove the dead skin as the fluid is usually proinflammatory

I know your comment is approx. 5 months old but I figured I'd answer your question in case of future injuries. It is completely safe to stuff that into the wound. It's very common to go that route for pressure sores as well!

Key points:
- there are two types of dressings:
a) old dressings: they are are useless.
b) modern dressings: they are wonderful.
- in the past the body was the one that healed itself, but that is not the case anymore, it is the dressing that makes most of the job now.
Other things that I may add are:
- old dressing are very easy to identify, they are cheap.
- modern dressings on the other hand must be extremely expensive (the overbloated medical bill will pay for it, don't worry). Also the list of features they provide, is nearly as long as the amount of money companies are willing to spend on shinny new "scientific" studies.

Looking for something that will promote skin healing and allow skin to regrow. It’s a large wound on an area that hard to heal.
I really struggle to get my debriment off my venous vein ulcers and there is extreme exudate. I have it for years now. 😢
I want to know why these wound dressings are NOT available in the health system in my country. The one place that does seemingly have these for purchase has the monopoly and people from lower socioeconomic situations have to pay large sums of money to get these dressings. If one looks carefully this business is somehow owned by the only wound care specialist who works in the public health care system in the country 🤨

Hey I have something much different. I have a wound from I’ve drug use and I have had it for over two months now. I went to the emergency room and they check if I had a blood infection which I didn’t. They said they would refer me to a burn clinic and the burn clinic just told me two washes it everyday and to apply something called santyl ointment on the wound and then cover it. Before this I was doing the same thing but instead using Vaseline. I feel like the wound really hasn’t healed at all and I have an appointment Dec 15 for a follow up. Don’t know what to do. I feel like the wound just doesn’t heal because it’s always wet idk man.

Some videos are much shorter in lenght and they say that yes covered wounds and a bit of moisture like petroleum jelly heal faster ? I've a lil puncture with it and I didn't know any better and have let it scab . Is it too late I've let in scab and only now applied petroleum jelly and covered it ?
If you’re worried about it definitely see your primary care doc, that being said, a moist environment, whether or not a scab has formed, helps with wound healing. Part of the reason for the length in this video was to describe the various dressings available and how they can be used :). Good luck with your wound I wish you speedy healing.
What’s the best way to dress an infected wound if you are taking oral antibiotics?
Certainly however your physician orders it but a lot depends on the wound. Classically wet to dry dressings changed twice daily with healing by secondary intention, but important to clear the infection which may require debridement or drainage.
@@citizensurgeon yeah, he’s not telling me much of anything although his group is touted as a premier sports medicine facility. I had a trimalleolar fracture surgery in June. The infection isn’t bad and it’s getting better with the antibiotic but I didn’t know what to cover it with without sticking. The physical therapist scraped on the scab (ouch), said to use betadine which I did for two weeks but it only dried and cracked it and then the spot of infection appeared. I am now attempting xeroform petrolatum dressing and hope that works. I’m in 70s, in good health with good dietary habits and activity. And no, I don’t live in a remote village in a third world country although it seems so with all the medical treatment I am getting. 😀 I was glad to find your channel.

That was meant to read 2021!! Operation! I am also 77 years of age and entitled to free prescriptions to which i have argued with the medical profession and never got! Hence over £2,000 in supplies, i got it really good until a doctor at the Royal London Hospital stabbed at it continuously with a scalpel and then had the cheek to say he had no idea what it was??? I knew but he never! Isn't that a laugh. Over granulation and contains biofilm!!

What will be the best dressing to use on those bed sores may I ask? My mom has a sore on her buttock very close to the crack, so it makes it so difficult for me to tape it and stay intact in that particular area as she moves around while she sits or laid down. So very frustrating!
