As a Rockets fan i still have nightmares about that night, it was so sad and a great opportunity for the title..
I feel your pain.
Y’all would of got swept by the cavs tho 😂
@@LottaActionGaming That cavs team was not sweeping nothing lmao cmon now
Nothing compares to the nightmares from 2013 that Spurs fans get
Same
By far the greatest 'what if' in the recent years. So many narratives today would be vastly different if the Rockets won vs the Warriors in 2018 and then won the Championship.
they are probably the best team ever not to win a ring. Don't get enough credit for going to game 7 vs arguably the best team in history
We shoulda won a championship that year missed too many shots
Nah kd foot on the line was a what if☠️☠️
@@Jaytatum_stepback0 That one too, but there is a teeny tiny asterisk on Giannis's ring because the Suns had no right to win the west that year, but still did it.
Harden's 2018 would have been one of the greatest achievements ever, on par with Lebron winning in 2016. Harden would have a ring, he'd be a "winner" which is all that he's considered NOT to be today.
CP3 would also be a winner, which is all that he's considered NOT to be today.
The entire KD era GSW would perhaps cease to be considered the greatest team ever.
D'Antoni would probably still be coaching contenders, and his own philosophy of basketball would be even more common.
KD would still have only one ring.
I could go on lol
Idk to me it's crazy how different the narratives would be today.
Windy has said ‘18 was probably Lebron’s best team
Even if Hou beats golden state I don’t see them surpassing lebron
Eric Gordon once scored 50 pts against the Jazz when Harden and Westbrook didn't play. Great player and a nice guy

He actually did cry his weigh out look it up lol
This game is proof that confidence and psychology have a massive effect on shooting ability.

@@aja3longhorn375 Nah we can't even make that excuse they missed so many shots refs didn't matter even if they did effect the game. You wouldn't be saying that had they made all of those missed 3s the game would have been a blowout the opposite way.

This is my first time ever hearing Eric Gordon talk😂
He had an incredible voice acting appearance in 2k15. Highly suggest looking it up, probably the best voice acting I've ever heard.
For those who say "the Rockets should've taken it inside or gone for midranges or layups":
1) both teams defensive schemes were to switch everything, the reason the Rockes were the only real competition to the GS dynasty was because they were the only team that had enough 2 way guys to make it work (ariza, tucker, gordon, mbah moute if he wasnt hurt too), combined with their offense being top tier enough to keep up with GS.
2) because everything was switch everything, that meant that both teams had to play a lot of iso to generate good looks. The rockets did it with harden and cp, and the warriors did it through kd & steph, something they didn't really do all year because most teams didn't switch everything on them yet.
3) Once cp went down, not only did the rockets lose one of their 2 way guys, but that left them with only harden to implement their offensive game plan. All year long they had practiced spacing out their offense by harden & cp "taking turns" in iso. Once one of them goes down, the other suffers (stamina wise), and the rest of the team doesn't get as good of looks as they are all 3 & D players.
Conclusion: the rhythm of which houston took that many 3s was all off. A typical possession would be harden getting a screen, forcing steph on him. GS sends a double team to get the ball out of harden's hands and scramble on close outs, gambling that any other player can't really reliable create their own shot. Ball finds itself back to harden, same thing happens. Shot clock gets low, harden has to give it up to ariza or tucker to shoot a stepback 3 against kd or draymond or klay. That's not his shot. Neither is it tucker's. Even when Harden was able to get by his guy cleanly for a few good looks, by then the rockets rhythm was all thrown off. The result: 0-27. GS was able to break free from the switch everything /bait kd into iso'ing at the elbow and a gassed harden couldn't/didn't get back on transition and klay hit a lot of big transition 3s. That's why they won.
[Yes, iggy not being hurt from games 4-7 would've helped the warriors even if cp doesn't go down. Functionally it would've meant a lot more iso's on curry than whatever 5th guy GS put out there, which often ended up being looney who did fairly well defending one on one.]
If CP3 were healthy, he would've given them their midrange element.
In game 7 of the conference finals, you can't change your identity. If you shoot only 3s and layups, you're not going to be this monster midrange team on the flip of a switch. But, this kind of crazy stuff happens when you heavily rely on high-variance plays and everyone was playing with nervous energy.
@@mrmacrossfor sure, cp3's midrange game was what led them to dominate utah & their drop coverage with gobert in the previous series (cp's stats that series was insane efficiency wise). As great as harden was then, he was struggling against the jazz because midrange on drop coverage wasnt the way he was dominating the rest of the league.
In the gsw series, they were switch everything as well so cp was 1v1ing whoever the weakest matchup was, leading to less midrange (gs didnt ever do drop) but more open looks on kickouts or the floater near the key. CP's absence definitely made houston's offense more repetitious.
@JLau910 yeah, if CP3 played in game 7, some of those possessions that ended with missed 3s would've ended with made mid-range jumpers. But that's all hypothetical.
They definitely had opportunities to dump it to capela inside.
@@pbCafe the opportunities were there but guy lost all confidence when he couldnt post up kd. got his shot tossed.
I never thought about the “we didnt feel it” perspective but it makes sense tbh. If you’re only down 9 to a juggernaut like that and you’re still scoring. Why change it up? In hindsight ofc they should’ve taken more 2s but I can see the mindset of sticking to your guns esp when it got you that far in that series against that opponent
Exactly, it's such a great perspective because I don't think "players not recognizing it" was fathomable since as fans, we notice it because commentators are in our ears, fans, friends and against a juggernaut like prime warriors, the expectation of 3s are still around 30 to 40%. Like, that's still 1 out 3 shots will go in.
In a 9 point game, if they made two 3s, the entire narrative shifts into "well Harden choked or they weren't good enough" not thay literally had the worst possible shooting performance.
That all said. Coaching staff had to have spoken up but were ignored by d'antoni...theres a reason that he's not coaching in this league anymore despite the fact the pace is the highest its ever been. Adjustments have never been his strength (also why Nash could have been curry before curry as one of the best shooters of all time but d'antoni focused on passing and the pick and roll)
@@cheetah219 The reason D"Antoni isn't in the league anymore is because he is old and didn't want to coach anymore, not because he was a bad coach. The KD nets wanted him, but he refused, and I believe the Sixers tried to get him when they got Harden as well, but again he refused. He would be the second oldest coach in the league at 72 only behind Pop at 74. And even Pop was talking about retiring only a couple years ago, but Wemby is probably going to delay that a bit.
There has never been a championship team talking bout such a thing as sticking to your guns in basketball demands confidence in your versatility.
Noone talks about this but Houston had those Warriors pinned. Their switching defense and physicality gave them problems. Its sad cp3 never got to play to end the series because his impact was huge
@@cheetah219that’s a stretchy assumption about dantoni.. and you’re wrong about the Suns. He wanted Nash to shoot more. Nash elected not to, but is quoted saying he wishes he shot more after witnessing Steph Curry do what he’s done and is still doing.

Maaan he was being modest. Let’s talk about WHY they had to take those 27 straight 3s. They couldn’t drive because they got fouled and no one made a call
Yeah and on the other end of the floor, the Rockets are locking arms with Steph and Klay as they run off the ball. I know playoff basketball gets more physical, but watching that playoff series as a neutral kind of drove me nuts
and they waived off harden's 4 point play, and they didn't get foul calls on 3s.
Congratulations on getting 1M subscribers JJ & team. Eric, thank you for your insights.

I could understand being in the moment and not realizing that you’re missing all those threes. But, why didn’t someone on the coaching staff say something to change it up? 😳🤔🤷🏽♂️
That was the same coaching staff that was telling cp3 to stop shooting mid range.😂
That’s exactly what I was gonna comment. I never understood after 12 straight misses, why did they keep trying it 😂
Yep, I blame the coaches just as much if not more than the players! It shouldn’t have taken that many misses for someone to say, “maybe we should try something else guys!”.😂
Because Dantoni is an overrated stubborn coach that makes no adjustments if something isn't working
Because it’s about the percentages.
Missing 23 threes in a row means that you’ve a very hot streak coming your way.

As a rockets fan I’m ashamed that this happened. They could’ve just gotten buckets inside penetrating inside the paint rather than trying to pull that off. I was so disappointed how that season ended.
Very very interesting that Gordon thought the key to their approach was a defensive strategy, not something D’Antoni was exactly known for. Personally I think d’Antoni is extremely underrated. He got teams to over perform their talent on paper big time.
Watching that series was unreal. Game 7 was an absolute sell by the rockets though they had every opportunity to gain the lead but couldn't
They got fouled on like 14 of them. Scott Foster ruined that game

“We took a lot of threes in Houston” that’s an understatement. Mike dantoni offense was literally 3 or points in the paint and no in between.

rockets shoulda got 3 fts on prolly like 3-4 of those 3s tbh
Glorious 😁
Bro where are these interviews? Or is this an old clip?
Watching the reffing of that game houston was almost doomed, no excuse for the poor shooting but damn that was a tough game
The Rockets' D kept them in that game and the series. The Rockets won two games that series, and nearly took game 7, without scoring 100 points. Even more impressive when you consider how short their rotation was that series.
KD said that it was the Rockets' defense more than the offense that gave them trouble. Daryl Morey built that team to defend the Warriors with switching tough defenders like Eric Gordon, PJ Tucker, and Trevor Ariza. When the Warriors ran their weak side fist offensive sets and one of their shooters caught the ball on the wing, there were already red jerseys there, getting into the body of the shooter. It's hard to play a whole game being guarded like that, let alone a whole series.
Why not talking about what Scott Foster did in this Game ?
Why did y’all go and post this and ruin my day off
☠️☠️
That was a great game plan tbh
People tend to forget refs canceled a 4 point play from Harden into a normal non-shooting foul in the middle and there were so many unbalanced no-calls on the physical contacts on lay ups from rockets while that 27-0 run, people now just assume they didn't try other shots. I saw Eric Gordon fell to the floor every time he attacks the rim with defenders all over him and both Demarcus Cousins( joined the warrior after) and Jeremy Lin tweeted about how bad the whistles were on rockets in the halftime... I am not saying rockets lost because of those, Warriors played great, but it's mad all those situations were simplified into "rockets loose because they only shoot threees"
Lol 27 3s in a row no matter how you put it there’s no way around that
@@TheNamezZ did you just miss the first sentence? Or the last sentence?
