In this video, Denae and Andrew embark on another small town adventure, this time in black and white. We’ll be shooting with Leica Monchrom devices: both the Leica Monochrome Type 246 (with the Voigtlander 50mm 1.2 Nokton) and the Classic Leica Monochrom (equipped with the Leica 35mm 2.4 Summarit). #leica #monochrome #b&w

0:58 the Typ 246 is based on the Typ 240. The Classic is based on M9. I think you knew this but just got confused when talking about them.
Thank you. I should have caught that in the edit
Denae & Andrew Yheah it’s kinda important. Put it up as a top comment.
The problem with a straight comparison is that the the original CCD M Monochrom DNG files are much flatter out of the camera, which is ideal for having the most latitude in post, while the DNG files from the M246 already have contrast added in camera to make them closer to what most people want as their end result.
After light processing both will be outstanding, but if only judging straight out of camera, the M246 will almost always look better,
I’ve owned and used both, as well as the even newer M10 Monochrom, and while resolution and dynamic range improve with each generation, they also all give very similar results after light processing and also all benefit greatly from colored filters in front of the lens.
Andrew’s photo number 3 is a perfect example of a contrasty scene flattened by the default file output on the M9M. Push the contrast slider a bit and it would look almost the same as it would from the M246. Pull the black point down and (with either model) and prepare to be blown away.
#22 is the spot where Denae fell backwards while wearing the Panda costume and got stuck. LOL! Yes I have watched all your videos ✌🏼
Nice. Good eye. :)
Aw thanks for watching Randy!
Should add the m8 into the mix cuz the sensor actually lacks an ir filter
The micro contrasts is insane on both camera/lense combos! My vote goes for number 10!!! Awesome video as always!
Shooting b/w with true b/w cameras is great, it feels genuine, but if it were me I'd like to have the options to accentuate certain tones with either colour filter or a colour sensor, and now I just realised it's not about options, but restrictions right?
My favorite photography couple is back with another awesome duel! Hard to pick one as always... it's between 7, 21 and 25.
Gave this a thumbs up purely from video title. Watching now. 👍
Of course! That’s where the panda photo shoot took place! Isn’t it?
And im sticking with photo number 20
Yup! 🐼💥😂
I feel like you should get a prize 😉
I vote for #12 with runner up #20
You gave yourself a hard task to shoot monochrome on such a bright sunny day. Some ND filters could have helped so you could shoot wider open, especially with the Nokton. Cheers, and keep on with these enjoyable videos.
I actually enjoy shooting on harsh light and small apertures. I love the shapes shadows can make and how they affect the scene. //A
Absolutely wonderful mood to most of these photos. There is something special about both monochrome sensors. I think you guys should treat yourself and get a used one to share.
Haha. Denae hated them. Otherwise, I'd totally push to do that. :) //Andrew
Sorry to be a stickler, but there's no 'e' at the end of Monochrom 👍
Difficult decision ..... I love the black and white contrast of photos 2 and 24
Denae: "That's hard. I'm having a hard time." I'm feeling the same. Thanks a lot for putting this together and sharing, anyhow!
Denae: 5, 11, 12, 22, 25
Andrew: 8, 20
These are really amazing cameras, thanks for putting this video together!! Nice job on this.
Number 10 - Thank you for the post!
I vote #6
That glass looks quite lovely - I kinda want it just cuz of how the lens itself looks lol
Which one?
@@AndrewGoodCamera The one of the Typ 246 - the Voig Nokton, looks too good
Oh yeah it's really nice. It's what I use for low light adapted on Fuji.
This time I vote for Denae: 4 and Andrew: 10
Having owned both the classic monochrome (m9 type) and New monochrome 246 I say there’s not about which one is better, many peoples prefer the Kodak censor , others like the new cmos censor . Myself I choose the 246 over m9 monochrome because shutter rusty on m9 and costly repair as the free repair time has pass , plus better iso and contrast . My monochrome m9 is sold now .
Andrew 3.
I think I just like the signage and the angles.
Close second was the coca cola sign. Just bc I love coke, but can't drink it anymore because of the calories. Well... from time to time, I do indulge. Pretty rare though.
Stop it, you're making me drool. Impossible to choose between two such glorious machines. Yes, I'm a hopeless Leica fanboy :-)
Favourite shot: #12
You should grab a nikon df it really fun ti shoot on
Denae: 7, 11, 16, 22
Andrew: 17, 20
Marginal/no difference between the cameras without pixel-peeping. You would see a difference when comparing any of the two cameras in this test with a Leica film camera loaded with B&W film of the same ISO number used on the digital camera.
Denae hit the spot with 1+5+12. Both great sensors. Hard to choose between cameras - Gorgeous tones.
#11 for me.
This was such a nice group of photos but I’m going with number 10. Thanks for another great video
Number 7.
11,14 for me
Tough one! I have to go with 20 or 25. Another good duel!
This is really cool !
:D
Loved this man, very cool. I really look forward to showing my lady how to fall in love with photography. I am really hoping we can do things as such very soon!
I’m going with 12, 17 and 21. Btw, where’d you get the hat from? The one with the motorcycle on it. Thanks!
Biltwell
Number 25 👍🏾
I have to give this one to #3 Andrew, the lines and contrast are great 👍🏽
12 or 25 are my favourites
6:35 🐼 😄
I kinda like #20.
No real banger shot this time. But that's totally fine. Really love these duels.
Great video. Loved 1 and 6 in particular
My picks are 7 and 12. By the way, 18 looks straight from a crime scene! 😂
Crime scene is not far from what happened. ;)
I vote for Danae: #7. BTW, nice video.
#7.
#7 - although I think this shoot would have been better in color. Love these little towns that you are exploring.
Meah... 5, 22, 24...
#9 & #14
cool cameras! #6 if it was a bit more contrasty, #4 and #24
#1 and #15
Number 2
#14 lovely light on the tyre. Well spotted
I’ll go with Andrew this time. #6 is my fav.
By the way, Denae’s Leica looks huge on your hands. Was it annoying to carry around?
I didn't like.it,.but not so much because it was big. Mostly hated the viewfinder and not a fan of manual focus. //Denae
7 then 6. I like simple rhythms in monochrome
Photo number 12 for me please. Great video and nice cameras
25, 21 and 7 :) Saludos!
#10 this time... Sorry Denae!
#25 👍🏻👍🏻
strange, I thought I subscribed to this channel.. anyway nice laid back vid guys
Totally #10.
Tough choice on the lens and body. If only the lens came off
14,15 and then 7 :-)
My favourite is #21
This "comparision" is torally useless.... 2 different sensor, used in different way (and she has NO CLUE HOW TO USE A LEICA 🤦🏻♂️) .. at the beginning you got confuse wich leica u have in lefthand and wich one on the roght hand...
Plus, if u want make something effort, try to do the same photos and look at the files It self :)
Like this is only u guys go around try to do any kind of shoots
Buddy, this is not camera comparison. I did a video comparing them directly. This is an ongoing photo duel series, a competition between my wife and I. We use different gear each time. The gear is secondary to the challenge of getting more interesting photos than each other in an allotted time. Cheers.
@@AndrewGoodCamera thanks for the answer, but still i don t see the point :)
@@saschaathosproietti7846 me neither :D also, very disappointing photos.
#25 👏👏👏👏👏
Enjoyed the video... 14 for me
6!
More amazing abandoned cars! I suspect some shenanigans. You cannot possibly just stumble on these things. It’s a Hollywood studio backlot isn’t it? C’mon.
😂

I think small town photography favours portrait lenses, because I find that it's the small details that make something quaint. Taking portraits of the details is so much easier than framing a wide shot and composing the negative space around that detail. At least in my opinion.
#12

#7 and #15 liked :)
These look awfully close to my Fujifilm when I shoot monochrome green or yellow. I'm not a fanboy. Just not sure a Leica is worth the price. And I can't pick a favorite. Your both good :)
