If you haven't modified the .ini file on the OLED I can guarantee you that you're running the game at half of the framerate shown on the performance bar
Oh really? I wasn't aware of any issues. Care to elaborate? The game felt super smooth so would definitely like to look into what I could have done wrong.
Found something about this on Reddit. Will do their slow motion test and report back. The link in case any one else is confused: www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/185pgn7/fallout_4_running_at_half_framerate_on_oled/
@@TechNuovo Hey thanks for the follow up comment. I DID reply but it looks like my app bugged out and didn't properly submit the comment, sorry for not noticing that. Glad you were able to find the fix though!
Tip: If you're going to check the best settings for Fallout 4 on the Steam Deck, go to the following locations: 1. Corvega Power Plant (at the very top) 2. Faneuil Hall (start from Goodneighbor) 3. Far Harbor You can get to these locations quickly via console command. Make sure you type in "tgm" and "tdetect" so that you will be in god mode and no enemies will go aggro on you. If you lock your framerate and it is consistent in these areas, then I can assure you that your Steam Deck can handle anything that the game throws at it. These three locations are the most performance intensive areas in the game. So intensive that the ps4 pro struggles in Faneuil Hall and Far Harbor so if you find a setting that can handle these areas then great.
@@TechNuovo atm I'm using TDP 10 with a Manual Clock to 1000Mhz and my graphics settings is a mixture of medium and high with Godrays at ultra with a custom shadow distance of 6250.0000 with my current settings, my frametime graph is for the most part perfectly flat but it still dips at Corvega Power Plant so im still trying to find the perfect balance EDIT: also during my testing, ive learned that the steam deck runs this game better than the ps4 pro because I can go around far harbor with ultra godrays and it doesn't crap itself although the resolution could be a big factor as to why
Just pointing at 1:09 you say a controller wont work, but it can. if you go into controller settings you can chage its template from gamepad controller to "keyboard wasd" to make your controller function as a mouse essentially then switch it back to a gamepad once youre past the launcher
They took this off with new update . Ima gonna sub to you I hope you make a video addressing how to change graphics settings with new update. With new update you just load into the game and unfortunately the launcher doesn’t pop up anymore. Is there a why to pop up the launcher so we can change graphics options? Please update ! I’ll be looking out for. Maybe I have to go into desktop mode then go back into gaming mode . I havnt tried that yet
I'm honestly getting so fed up with this launcher and ini crap. The game completely ignores my launcher settings, ini keeps getting overwritten with what appear to be default settings, so ULTRA.
On my oled with everything on max settings showing 90fps. Is this a false reading? How do I accurately see it to make sure I'm getting best fps. Thank you.
@@TechNuovo It finally worked but took a lot of tries. It was that launcher at the start that detects the display screwing things up. Not exactly sure what worked. I just keep trying different Proton options
I don't I'm afraid. Tried different compatibility options? I'd also set everything to minimum and see if it still has issues. Then change things one by one to see if any individual settings causes crashes.
@@alkalionpower Tried playing FPS with it? I'm unsure if the question I'm afraid. If referring to the FPS achieved, it was fine for me as seen in the gameplay in the video. There is also a YT Short on the channel in the pinned comment on how to improve the FPS too by editing the .ini file.

Maybe I'm just not sensitive enough to it. Felt like a smooth experience to me, and being on Steam Deck I'm not as fussed as the performance is expected to be lower than a gaming rig. There's a fix though in my pinned comment.

Great advice! Tempted to try myself now. Thanks for the comment. Have you found Steam Deck settings that could work for these areas?

Go to the launch option properties and type in "SteamDeck=0 %command%" with no quotes.

Yep. They need to release a big old patch that just fixes everything that's currently bugging out with Fallout 4 on the Steam Deck.

Yeah false reading. There's a RUclips Short on the channel to get closer to what is actually being output.
Can’t launch. The helmet screen is way scaled. I’ve tried native and a bunch of other settings. :/
Have you got your Steam Deck performance menu set to anything other than native?

When I try to start the game (after the launcher and using your settings) it just kicks me back to the steam deck home. Any suggestions?

Ah ok so here's what ya gotta do set your deck to use the games native resolution in the games settings menu (the cog icon)right beside your game
@@meric12131415 ahhh brilliant! Glad you found a solution!
you don't need to plug a mouse in when the Steamdeck literally has built in mouse touch pad💀
Yep. As mentioned in the video. But a mouse was much easier as the Deck for me was docked and plugged into a monitor.
Have you tried playing fps with it!? It sucks

Runs at half the frame rate on the OLED Steam Deck
Oh really? I am on the OLED Steam Deck so that's very odd.
Yeah this is rly annoying I tried disabling vsync but it didn't do anything
Steam Deck OLED is around 10% faster than the older model, actually.
@ its not to do with speed but settings
@@oogboog3878 theres a easy fix for this
crap fps use fsr 3 mod
What FPS would you get with that?
