I heard this all the time in little league: Imagine you're chopping a tree!
Is this true?
Yes and no.
The way the human body swings a baseball bat is very comparable to the way human beings have swung other objects in history like an axe or a club. However, there is one very big difference. The baseball swing is not meant to be purely rotational!
The baseball swing must become more linear than rotational to maximize the contact window. See this week's video for a drill that will encourage our swing to become more linear to maximize our contact window.
