This is like traditional art but without the rubby eraser thing that we all use
Lol…a kneaded eraser??
@@animelover1582 no no no, the rubby eraser thing (yes, I just don’t want to admit that I forgot)
As a traditional artist, I use my single layer very carefully.
i work with around 1 layer pretty often, and this actually kinda reflects my process! i dont usually do lineart when i draw on one layer, but the way that you layed down the colors reminded me of my digital painting process
I was baffled to find out with digital art you have multiple layers. The first year of me using digital art I only ever did one layer just like traditional. To this day I do this unless it's a comission then I use like 3 layers..
As someone who uses usually more than 15 layers, i would die doing this. So props to you! :D
Ohmygoodness, samee-
It's closer to 40 for me- ;-;
@@chicken-man- same tbh
goddamn
the fact that you managed to get your shading style in only one layer is honestly Impressive™ because my digital shading style will absolutely not work with only one layer lmao
I can't imagine doing the one layer challenge. Just today, I finished a drawing that was almost twenty layers. But hey, I should be used to it because I also do traditional art. The layers is oftentimes associated with many color tones you would use to make the drawing look less flat, traditional wise.
I use to use only one layer cause I didn't know how to make more so I've learned out to keep everything need even if its pure suffering lol
me who always ends up drawing lineart on my sketch layer:
“this is normal though” 🤠🌝🤡
Honestly when I draw (I use procreate) if I have too many layers it stresses me out. But one is just crazy!
“suffering makes for good content” damn oliver really just summed up the whole internet in one go
i kinda like the subdued ish lineart tbh it has a different vibe but in a good way??
I use 40 - 200 layers for every drawing and this just scares me-
XD it looks so good for one layer ;-;
I swear, I use so many layers. My first sketch usually uses at least 4 layers because I like separating the face, hair, body, and clothes. Then I have my second sketch (which is usually 1 layer). Then I have 2 line art layers (I like placing eyes and eyebrows on their own layer for lineart), then I separate every different color in the flats stage. Then I add so many more for just shading. *I use so many layers*
Im absolutely loving reading all the different ways people in the comments use their layering
Noot noot
Digital art with one layer is more like painting traditional and is super funny considering you tend to work more with markers so you can’t even use your normal traditional techniques since the tools are so different, but you did an amazing job despite everything!
you should do a challenge of not zooming out so you can’t see the drawing in full (so you would have to cover that box in the top left corner) i love challenge videos like this and your art!❤️
I just wanna say, I’ve been watching your channel for a couple years, and it’s honestly really great to see how much you’ve changed! For example, your video quality has gotten much better, as well as your art, and your voice! I love seeing people’s journeys on testosterone, and it really encourages me to start taking it myself. As always, love your videos, and I really like your art! ♥️
when i saw how you were lining at the beginning all i could think was "alpha lock my beloved"
Great video Oliver! You made me want to try this challenge as well! For me the hardest challenge would be: Use as many layers as you want but... *NAME ALL OF THEM*
Impossible
Maybe that would keep me from having a layer for a single line that gets covered anyway…
I usually have about 4-9 layers depending on what I'm doing. I always name them.
This turned out amazing!
Personally I use a ridiculous amount of sketch layers and colour layers while usually only 2 line art layers (one for what I'm currently drawing and one to merge into below with the finished lines) I definitely would not be able to pull off my shading without multiply/add(glow) layers XD not sure if there'd be a way to even mimic it
me and my friends watched this video while drawing and drinking battery acid (monster energy with a bunch of candy in it) and it was such a vibe
me using 20-40 layers on a drawing. clicking on this video (yet to watch it all yet) *fingers crossed this goes well!
(I also have 3 sketch layers lol)
edit: finished video OwO its sooo pretty you did such a good job!!!
I personally think you did fantastic!!! Like I have never done digital so I don't really know but anyway! Looking forward to your next video
I think I have trouble using multiple layers to my advantage because I forget it is possible.
hey oliver I have a little tip (that would've been very useful for when you did draw this oops, but maybe you can still use this in the future) you can also change the style of your brushes so when you adjust the brushes in paint tool sai you see this thingy that says normal but you can click that and set it to multiply to you can have the multiply effect without a multiply layer
well maybe for next time^^
I also love nicolette and really enjoy this illustration you did such a good job
I tried that off camera, but it didn't quite look the same 😔 maybe I need to play with the settings more aldjflfflf
Glad you liked the drawing!
Honestly I have gone up to using 45 layers in one drawing before, not due to the amount of sketches or details but just because I lose layers often (Don't really take the time to name every single one of them) so I end up just making new ones all the time, I would completely suck at this challenge ;_; I really love this artwork, it looks beautiful and I hope you are doing well!
I started using digital art about half a year go
But I only really use 4 layers because I'm so used to traditional art
And this style was so good!! I hope you try to do this more!!
Oof one layer is the Definition of Torture! to digital artist (and traditional because we do have a type of layering but its different ig but eh)
Oliver: I use 10 layers minimum, that's a lot!!
Me, 4 years ago: *using 100+ layers on a single illustration*
I can't even give you a number of how many layers I end up using
for me it depends how many characters I'm drawing, I use 3 sketch layers 1 lineart layer (depending on what I draw sometimes 2) and dependering on the characters at least 40 to 80 color layers and a 1 layer for the eye whites and if there's anything extra then add more layers
Very nice!
Traditional art except I get 3 layers for traditional, an artist never reveals their secrets
Shhhhhhhh don’t ask
Honestly Nicolette is always cute no matter how many layers
"when in doubt, make tiddy bigger"
I'm SO glad I'm not the only one with that mind set! XD
I usually use about 10 layers but lately I've been trying to lessen the amount I use so I've been able to drop it down to about 4 initial sketch and then directly into lineart and then jump into colors
For me, I make folders for everything. All the line art is on one layer above all the folders. I either name them by what they are: Clothes, Hair, Skin (the general stuff) or emojis 😌
I think my record is 163 layers, but generally I float somewhere between 20 and 40 for each drawing lol. This challenge would have killed me, serious probs lmao
lmao i thought your dogs name was Zoloft for a minute
i went from using 50-60 layers per drawing to switchign to painting.
honestly I like it a lot more now lol. I don't do it all on one layer though-- Ill merge my sketch layers, have color layers with clipping masks for shading, and then i'll merge it all to paint it together. It goes from really messy colored sketch to a finishing painting. It's really fun though, I always felt limited by lineart
as someone who often draws on one layer i feel seen
This is gonna be interesting. I could never 👎🏾
i use many layers when i draw, i might try to attempt this challenge
My personal hell is using over 2-3 layers, idk how you guys stay sane with so many layers open lol
It's like an onion..
From someone who typically has at least 7 layers for just line art at usually ends up with at least 35+ by the time I get to the background.
There’s no such thing as too many layers-
Also your arts really nice.
As someone who uses 20-40 layers… no 😭
i dont have the strength or willpower for this 🌝
I too am an artist who uses to many layers, but how do you do it without naming all of them???
Laziness, mostly
I use 1-5 layers 🤝🤝🤝
Yknow mate. You could've set the pen setting to multiply.
I tried that off camera when I went into timelapse, but I hated the way it looked. I don't know if it's just with sai or if it's like that for all programs, but the effect didn't look the same at all rip
@@OliversAntics69 damn. With csp it looks like you use layers. Altho I do a painting style a lot when I want to relax so I guess I'm used to the process?
@@OliversAntics69 you should try different blending modes and colors. It's a pretty useful tool
I think your hand is backward... the pinky is supposed to be showing, not the thumb.
But it's really pretty anyways
That's supposed to be the pinky 🙃
My man really doesn't realize he's painting digitally 😐
I'm pretty sure I talk about that many times in the video adfjkdfh
@@OliversAntics69 maybe i should finish a video before commenting because now i just feel stupid 😐
