  • "Inheritance tax. That will affect a very small number of very rich people."
In Rachel Reeves’s upcoming tax announcement, she will not raise the taxes she has promised not to raise, but “will raise some other taxes, ones they didn’t promise”, reports Michael Jacobs.

The NHS doesn't 'do' health, it is restricted to identify a set of symptoms leading to a predetermined 'evidence based protocol' which are anything but based in evidence and lead inexorably to expensive drugs or mechanical interventions. Apart from some surgery, the human body is perfectly capable of healing itself, if it weren't, man would have become extinct. What we need is far more fresh vegetables and some fruit and way less processed junk which is what you get in hospitals, there's a place to start, bring catering in house.

"Virtually everything that the government does costs more than when the same thing is done in private industry - whether it is building housing, running prisons, collecting garbage, or innumerable other things. Why in the world would we imagine that health care would be the exception?"
"“It is amazing that people who think we cannot afford to pay for doctors, hospitals, and medication somehow think that we can afford to pay for doctors, hospitals, medication and a government bureaucracy to administer it.”
"People who believe in 'universal health care' show remarkably little interest - usually none - in finding out what that phrase turns out to mean in practice, in those countries where it already exists, such as Britain, Sweden or Canada. For one thing, 'universal health care' in these countries means months of waiting for surgery that Americans get in a matter of weeks or even days."
"The government does not have some magic wand that can 'bring down the cost of health care.' It can buy a smaller quantity or lower quality of medical care, as other countries with government-run medical care do."

Same old story with Labour. They say they won't do it but go and do it. Those of us who have a good memory will remember that it was Tony Blair's election manifesto promise which proved false. I used to be a Labour supporter but when My tax bill increased I knew what liars they are. The conservatives reduced my tax bill twice as a self employed care assistant which was extremely useful, it was then I realised how Labour were useless with finances. Every time they've been in power it's always been increased in taxes and leave the country in debt, it happened under Harold Wilson's government and subsequent Labour governance and the Conservatives had to somehow rebuild the bank balance. Under Gordon Brown the coffers were empty after they sold off the family silver and gold and again the Tories had to try and redress the country's balance back into the black which takes time. We all have to cut back you can't spend money you don't have. Unfortunately after a pandemic which cost billions any reserve built up was soon used up and the economy faltered and was just beginning to recover but then the illegal immigration issue and lack of action and the cost of living which is happening right across Europe back footed the Tories. I lost faith in the Conservatives and voted Reform and I'm not right wing before the left wing narrative of the media judges me. 9:20

people talk nonsense about tax. They make an assumption that for example you can raise stampt duty rates and that just creates extra income. In the real world it doesn't work like that, as Starmer is about to find out with VAT on private school fees. And as Gordon Brown demonstrated when he added an extra top rate to income tax, which actually reduced the overall income tax take. And as we will see with the non-dom rule changes that has caused many mobile wealthy people to leave these shores.

That's BS - to start off if someone wants a commodity or service, they'll pay it no matter the price. You've clearly been living under a rock, because private schools have had their sticky fingers in the public purse while taking money from private donors too. Some have been funded up to four times more than public schools by the tory government...

Capital gains is not adjusted for inflation, so you end up paying tax on inflation. It's a stretch to claim that's favourable compared to income tax rates which apply only to current year cashflow.
