In Rachel Reeves’s upcoming tax announcement, she will not raise the taxes she has promised not to raise, but “will raise some other taxes, ones they didn’t promise”, reports Michael Jacobs.

How about starting with billionaires and millionaires sitting under our noses in Westminster, the poorest and the just getting by always gets hammered.
I know right, if not for all the taxes we pay, they wouldn't have enough to steal to call themselves billionaires or millionaires
Isn’t what the nee inheritance tax that prevents hiding it in offshore assets supposed to tackle that? Isn’t capital gains supposed to tackle that as well? I’m weary of the times radio at the moment since I found out it’s actually owned by Murdoch.
Exactly! Stop hammering the middle classes too! People who work hard for their money with little wealth, pay a higher rate of tax than the richest in society
@@kimmie411they actually don’t, the rich pay a higher rate of their money in tax, the difference is they make more than enough to live on. Raising taxes in these groups also seems to forget democracy evolved, and how idea like dependence on the rich for tax revenue makes the state more receptive to them for money.
The rich already pays the most, the rich's tax should be cut. Shame on those who voted Labour, when the wealthiest flock to Dublin and Dubai, lower and middle income earners will be hit the most.
The NHS doesn't need more money, it needs radical reform. We could spend our entire GDP on the NHS and still get no better service.
😂😂😂😂
Absolutely. Like all public sector behemoths, the NHS is bloated by inefficiency and waste. The MOD is the same.
Reform isn’t free either
The NHS doesn't 'do' health, it is restricted to identify a set of symptoms leading to a predetermined 'evidence based protocol' which are anything but based in evidence and lead inexorably to expensive drugs or mechanical interventions. Apart from some surgery, the human body is perfectly capable of healing itself, if it weren't, man would have become extinct. What we need is far more fresh vegetables and some fruit and way less processed junk which is what you get in hospitals, there's a place to start, bring catering in house.
"Virtually everything that the government does costs more than when the same thing is done in private industry - whether it is building housing, running prisons, collecting garbage, or innumerable other things. Why in the world would we imagine that health care would be the exception?"
"“It is amazing that people who think we cannot afford to pay for doctors, hospitals, and medication somehow think that we can afford to pay for doctors, hospitals, medication and a government bureaucracy to administer it.”
"People who believe in 'universal health care' show remarkably little interest - usually none - in finding out what that phrase turns out to mean in practice, in those countries where it already exists, such as Britain, Sweden or Canada. For one thing, 'universal health care' in these countries means months of waiting for surgery that Americans get in a matter of weeks or even days."
"The government does not have some magic wand that can 'bring down the cost of health care.' It can buy a smaller quantity or lower quality of medical care, as other countries with government-run medical care do."
Thomas Sowell

In 2023 we received £10 billion in Tax Revenue from North Sea oil so surely we should be maximizing oil exploration in the North Sea rather than shutting it down.

Same old story with Labour. They say they won't do it but go and do it. Those of us who have a good memory will remember that it was Tony Blair's election manifesto promise which proved false. I used to be a Labour supporter but when My tax bill increased I knew what liars they are. The conservatives reduced my tax bill twice as a self employed care assistant which was extremely useful, it was then I realised how Labour were useless with finances. Every time they've been in power it's always been increased in taxes and leave the country in debt, it happened under Harold Wilson's government and subsequent Labour governance and the Conservatives had to somehow rebuild the bank balance. Under Gordon Brown the coffers were empty after they sold off the family silver and gold and again the Tories had to try and redress the country's balance back into the black which takes time. We all have to cut back you can't spend money you don't have. Unfortunately after a pandemic which cost billions any reserve built up was soon used up and the economy faltered and was just beginning to recover but then the illegal immigration issue and lack of action and the cost of living which is happening right across Europe back footed the Tories. I lost faith in the Conservatives and voted Reform and I'm not right wing before the left wing narrative of the media judges me. 9:20
Strange that in the same comment you say we cant spend money we dont have as a country but then complain about tax rises....where do you think the money comes from ?
Imagine being a government and thinking the UK population can afford higher taxation. Meanwhile we can give 11 billion in overseas climate aid. Public sector wanting 5.5% which is more than double what many in private sector are getting in reality. People are getting very angry, they should be.

I changed the Labour Party to put it back in the service of the British people.
Now I’m ready to change the country and fight for you.
That’s Starmer recently , what a liar he is , a complete and utter liar
Rishi Sunak paid an effective tax rate of 23% on £2.2m income last year. Low capital gains rate and US location of funds mean tax bill of £508,000 much less than under top income rate of 45%. The system is designed to tax workers not the wealthy who get most of their income from living off their assets.
Too many loopholes for the rich, I read that a famous footballer, put all his salary in a company he owned, then takes out a loan he never has to pay back, so did not pay the correct taxes, wasn’t that found out that it was common practice and used by some bbc presenters,
That's a topic covered in a video by the New Statesman from Rishis released tax return seems a very wrong situation, the rest of us poor schleps also caught up NI on top so plenty of scope to adjust taxes that favour the very wealthy.
23% is too much
On already taxed in us corporation tax rate returns.
In terms of sheer totals, he's paid more in tax in one year than you've paid in 30 years. So you can hate him as much as you want for being rich, but thinking people that have more than you should automatically pay more than you is just self serving. What have you personally done to deserve more money?
The biggest cut they need to make is all the money they’re sending out of the country…
TOO MANY PEOPLE BENEFITING AND NOT CONTRIBUTING .
You mean like single mums? They account for the majority of unemployed and lifetime of benefits reliance but we are told it is people who drink all day at weatherspoons when there are 1000/1 broken families we pay for in ratio to alcoholics.
@@BrandonSullivan309 What tripe ! I did not mean single mums ,though they should be partially supported by the fathers.I meant people arriving into this country and on benefits almost immediately
@keithwilkins1437 🤣 what's tripe? Broken families are the biggest societal failure, these common dynamics are foggeten in the welfare discussion yet are the biggest factor
Scap overseas aid.
We cant look after our own.
Old people such as myself are the biggest drain on the NHS, as most people require expensive healthcare in their old age. I see Rachel Reeves is solving that one by cutting winter fuel payments. Well done, that will shorten the NHS waiting lists. Outside the box thinking is what we need, and Labour are indeed out of their box.
People hate on the rich for living off assets... but then literally every young person with any financial sense is working hard to get to the position where they live off assets. Are we just supposed to hate the people we want to be, until we finally become them and become the hated?
Wow. A sensible comment for a change

Those people leaving our shores wont matter....they dont pay tax or benefit us in any way.
That's BS - to start off if someone wants a commodity or service, they'll pay it no matter the price. You've clearly been living under a rock, because private schools have had their sticky fingers in the public purse while taking money from private donors too. Some have been funded up to four times more than public schools by the tory government...
Tax the Woke
There is no black hole it's all lies.
Well, as me I am a British, we should to maybe stopping support Ukrainia. Because then we could have more moneys be wealthiest. So stop to help Ukrainia! Yes. Then the money will flow to Britania and we will have much mores. For all! Peace with RUSSIA wealth for Britan

Brace yerselves people, hit the average hard working targets as usual. Daylight feckin robbin Starmerites.
Labour will do what they've always done. Raise taxes on the rich.
@@richardsanders.4624while simultaneously failing to tax the loophole finding, tax avoiding mega rich. If they sorted that out no one would be complaining
@@johnnyraysimpson92 What are you yapping about. Labour the peoples party have been in power for 1 month. (5 years until the next election). I'm sure they're going to close the loopholes once they've figured out how much the Tories have skimmed off to their donors.
Capital gains is not adjusted for inflation, so you end up paying tax on inflation. It's a stretch to claim that's favourable compared to income tax rates which apply only to current year cashflow.
