Survivor to Rubio: Will you reject NRA money?

  • Cameron Kasky, one of the students who survived the shooting at Stoneman Douglas high school, asks Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) if the senator would continue to take campaign donations from the National Rifle Association.
    ==
    Opinion: This is what happened when 3 nations that experienced mass shootings did something about it
    Opinion by Philip Alpers
    A man -- almost always a man -- commonly with no criminal history and no diagnosis of mental illness, armed with a lawfully obtained semiautomatic 'assault' weapon, kills and injures a large number of innocents in a place they imagined to be safe.
    It happens around the world, but horrifyingly more and more often in the United States, most recently in Uvalde, Texas and Buffalo, New York.
    To those of us who live in culturally similar nations, but where the availability of lethal weapons is limited, Americans' increasing reliance on guns even in the face of escalating horrors is unfathomable.
    We live in far less fear of gunfire, and view America's self-inflicted problem with firearms as a symptom of crippling political dysfunction. As each shooting eclipses the last, as fear and ideology trump the evidence once again, it's terrifying to imagine the scale, the sheer enormity of the tipping point which might finally force American politicians to face their collective responsibility and enact change.

A politician needs money to be successful, bottom line, and what he’s saying is he will accept money from them as long as they will give it. That said should take a stance that they are against ( as he most likely has) then it’s up to them to cut the funding, not him. Why not make both the money to support his career and continue to change things for the better.

      Tom Murphy my child would respect the constitution put into place and not align with other puppets to push a gun narrative. Certain kids involved in this crisis have been preparing for this garbage. Just like David Hogg hiding with other classmates in the school conducting interviews on every ones thoughts on gun control while there was an "active shooter" on campus. Only problem is little David wants to be a journalist and help push false narratives just like his former fbi daddy who cries while showing no tears lol David also forgot to not call out interview times in a video when it contradicts the actual shooting itself. People are to quick to take what they are told and spew garbage about it instead of taking out a little time and researching this trash to think for yourself!

Just because Rubio supports and believes something that the NRA disagrees with DOES NOT mean that Rubio's decisive actions are not influenced by them. Rubio may not believe in teachers having guns, but if the NRA said you must support a law allowing teachers to have guns or I will take away money that funds your "agenda" would he support that law against his values? I feel for these kids, I live in Denver, Colorado, which is only about 20 minutes away from Littleton where Columbine High School is. I would love to see AR 15 rifles completely banned but we will never see it because as long as we have the 2nd Amendment, AR 15 and similar assault rifles will be protected by the NRA under the blanket of the 2nd Amendment. What disgust me about the NRA is they will fight tooth and nail against any reasonable gun legislation like raising the age to purchase any gun to 21, extended wait on gun purchases, more extensive background checks. The problem is, the crazy nut jobs who shouldn't be allowed a gun are using the same rights as responsible gun owners to purchase one.

    We as a country are in a debate over how this country is so fiercely armed , I’m at a crossroads why this is so hard to fix , unless it’s not complicated .Our country is the one strategic part of the puzzle that NATO depends on to defend or invade at force those who impact its authority . We are chosen , outside money is spent categorically to put boots on the ground . The subject is what makes us different , why the United States , my answer would follow , it was set in motion after WWII , we are a warrior nation by our country’s leaders path that pandered to this selection . If guns get put away we look weak , it has to change . Failure is only following the same wrong answer , success can be won if they say enough to these in power ..

      Just ask Ted Cruz. The one moment he MIGHT have shown he had a spine or an ounce of integrity was undercut when the big donors threatened to pull his campaign contributions. Next thing you know, he endorses Trump--the guy who personally insulted his family and him--and gives us the "Sad Ted" meme. Being a donor hound makes a politician into a sad son-of-a-bitch who doesn't have the guts to stand against the special interests and lobbies that have bought them.
      Marco Rubio is just another politician who is just the same, utterly incapable of standing there and accepting that perhaps there are some things that are more important.

    • @4tahlulz4
      @4tahlulz4 6 лет назад +1

      It would be great if a president, once sworn into office and being free of the binds of lobbyists whims, would force through an anti lobbying law. As it stands it is impossible for one to pass unless EVERY politician did so at once. If you stand up against them, they just cut you loose and use someone who will play ball. And if there was no lobbying, then politicians would all be on an even playing field as far as advertising and such goes. You could even just limit the amount lobbyists could commit to any given politician. If you limited it to 100k or something, no ONE lobbyist group could have that much sway over a politician.

    • @esmith1128
      @esmith1128 6 лет назад

      Rubio is right. The influence comes from the members of the NRA that donate to them and ask them to lobby our government on the members behalf.
