    This movement isn't about kids only. Or schools only. Or between the hours of 8am-3pm only. It's any public space like a church in Charleston, a nightclub in Orlando, a Jewish CC in L.A., and any location where it's inadvisable to get shot.

    • @yamahapiano
      @yamahapiano 3 года назад

      Absolutely we definitely need more security in certain locations. I hope we can all agree to fund the schools appropriately so they can provide a safe environment to learn in. Whatever it takes to put their minds at ease, so they can do what they are there for. The security of a school is paramount to its success just like the security of our country is paramount to its very existence. Our founding fathers knew that an armed citizenship was the most robust way to ensure the security of a Free state. I understand you the fear and agree it’s should never happen again. Let’s do it while also ensuring the mechanism that supports the very existence of America remains in tact as well. Best wishes, with love and compassion.

    I’ve had the wonderful honor of meeting and befriending several kids from MSD (no one famous like David, Cameron, or Jaclyn, Sarah, or Emma) and they were truly some of the nicest people on Earth. Even if you don’t agree with what they do, you truly have to admire their passion for what they do. They do what they truly think is right to solve social problems and they’ve taken action to stand up for what they believe in. They do to help people in a week than most people do their entire lives.

I'm not sure in what way I've shown a lack of sympathy\empathy, concern, caring or remorse for what these kids went through. My only comment (which I could have truly ripped this whole interview apart on several levels) was that it was pretty arrogant (or would ignorant be the better word) to believe you're an expert on something when you've only experienced a small, small scenario of a broad subject.

    When they say "don't tell us that we don't know what we're talking about, we looked down the barrel of an AR-15. We know exactly what we're talking about." That experience gives you the knowledge of the emotional toll you receive when facing an armed attacker and seeing people die. It doesn't necessarily give you knowledge of things like crime statistics, gun terminology, gun usage, gun laws etc. You may well have researched those things heavily either beforehand or after the shooting but that statement is like me saying "I know exactly how martial arts work, I've seen my friends get beaten up and someone tried to beat me up."

      1) The US isn't a democracy, it's a republic.
      2) Whether he's right or not isn't even the point I was making. Often you'll hear "I'm not attacking the second amendment" from people who are attacking the second amendment. What Maher did was open a door for the kid to attack the second amendment, while simultaneously claim he's not attacking the second amendment.
      The whole gun debate is stupid to begin with. Go research actual statistics. The majority of gun deaths are broken down into four categories: suicides, gangs, domestic disputes, and armed robberies. Of those four categories, suicide are roughly 2 out of 3. An overwhelming amount of those deaths are via handgun. And something like 85% of gun deaths are with a gun not even legally purchased (i.e. mostly stolen, some borrowed) guns.
      Did you know that guns save an estimated 300,000 to something like 1-3 million lives per year?

      anshul mehta - nothing is god given because there is no "god". The 2nd amendment is a right bestowed upon us by our founding fathers as they themselves realized they could become tyrannical just as England had. If the 2nd amendment was altered, what would stop the government from altering any other right in the Bill of Rights? Suddenly free speech is no longer free (like Canada). All of a sudden you can be subjected to cruel and unusual punishment. Then you have no right to a trial, or the police can search and seize your property without cause. Do you see how altering (1) can effect the others? It's a domino effect.

    I came here to hopefully find a well-reasoned debate. These kids did nothing but virtue-signal. They offer nothing constructive, nor do they do anything to draw gun-rights supporters to their side. They simply put their opposition down and tell them they are bad people.
    If you are going to enter the realm of policy debate that seeks to limit constitutional rights, you have to have more convincing arguments than, “I was a victim, therefore my suggestions are unassailable.”
    This did nothing to further the debate our country needs to have. I would be very thankful to any gun control advocates to provide me a link where Mr Hogg actually debates a gun rights advocate and has to defend his point of view with reason. I haven’t been able to find one, but I’ve not looked long on YT.

      1) I'm not american and never went to the US, so if "they kill each other" is not something that affects my life at all.
      2) It's your right to not care, but some of us do.
      3) My point is not just about what happened to those kids or the politcs that made that tragedy possible, but about how they chose to respond in a situation when, most of us at the same point would still be too broken to do anything.
      We SHOULD ALL take notice, yes, but not because of what happened to them, but because they are fighting back against the problem.
      It's not about just the american politics envolved, but about how most of us are too jaded to see that maybe, we dont need to self destruct, maybe we should fight back and maybe we can improve just little this blue planet of ours. We dont need to be victims, they chose not to and that is amazing for people so young, that have been through such a horrible tragedy.
      Have a great day, my friend.

    • @47and28
      @47and28 6 лет назад +3

      again, i applaud their resolute demand for change, but to suggest they are doing something "the world should notice" is daft. have you seen how well they're dressed? have you seen them on the highest rated television shows? have you seen who's paying their bills to fly around the US and stay in hotels and eat 3 lovely meals a day?
      "the world should take notice" of 5 year old children who are dying from aids. 10 year olds who are starving wearing nothing but a rag and still carry water for 5 miles for their families.
      "the world should take notice" of the atrocities committed on female children with female genitalia mutilation and rape and slavery. depravation at the most extreme.
      i have sympathy for these american kids. i really do. but to suggest "the world should take notice" of what these almost adults are doing while jetting around the country and eating like celebrities and living it large on nationwide television is a very stupid thing to say. bye.

    This truly disgusts me. You don't act that way and expect people to take you serious. Dropping the F bomb doesn't persuade people to join your cause. Passion, knowledge, wisdom, and respect are just some of the core components of presenting a sound argument with intent to sway your audience. These kids took a horrific incident and turned it into their chance to tell everyone they are an "expert" at something, which the irony is they are probably considered in the top bullies in their school,

    • @lillymackenzie3033
      @lillymackenzie3033 6 лет назад +1

      Jeremy N sorry if these kids are too passionate for you. you know, maybe it’s because their friends and family were murdered, and they were forced to become adults overnight (but without the years or experience) because the adults did nothing. but I don’t thing that’s it. (and sorry if they don’t know everything about proper arguments and debates. it’s not like they’re 17 or anything)

    • @jeremyn6788
      @jeremyn6788 6 лет назад +4

      Lilly, before attempting to make a valid argument, please do your research on what being an "adult" should mean. I'm sure there are many more kids and adolescents who could have composed themselves to convey the same message. I am actually on the side of these kids with changes that should be implemented, but the way they presented themselves makes it look bad for all teengers, kids, adolescents, etc. that want to have and share a voice in this matter. Where was there voice with all the other mass shootings....all the hundreds of killings in areas like Chicago? A real adult with real knowledge would have spoken up against issues such as this a long time ago. They are making it worse for the argument against safe gun laws and they will be looked at as fools for the way they portrayed themselves in the media. NO ONE will take them serious as long as they act this way. So, if no one takes them serious...then what is the point in them having a so called "voice"? It should be given to a student who can actually convey a respectful argument in a way that does not come across like they are naive and immature. Think before commenting Lilly, because the proof of immaturity sits in every second of this video. Immaturity about such an important issue breeds ignorance about the issue in general...so hopefully they either A. Wise up and ACT like respectful adults or B. Take their 15 minutes of fame and vanish

    • @lillymackenzie3033
      @lillymackenzie3033 6 лет назад +2

      Jeremy N the point is that no adult spoke up about chicago, or anywhere else. so the kids are doing it. and yes, it’s not perfect (to be perfectly honest some things they said in this I though were really unnecessary) but they are at least speaking up about it. and there are kids in other places where gun violence is a big problem that are trying to speak out, but they aren’t heard because there aren’t enough of them or it’s not loud enough. if these kids can make a positive difference in the safety of our country, it doesn’t really matter if some people think they look stupid while doing it.

    • @jeremyn6788
      @jeremyn6788 6 лет назад +1

      That's my exact point Lilly! I agree with what the students are saying, but the way they are communicating the message makes the issue even more difficult to confront. This goes for any issue, political race, etc. where someone's voice is heard. Do I respect the students for standing up for their beliefs and what is right? Hell yes I do. But, if I was someone on the fence about the matter and heard the argument communicated in that was, I'd say "Hell no" to whatever that issue might be. The goal of these kids is to create a domino effect in which more and more people gain voices....THEY TAKE THEIR VOICES AWAY by acting the way they do.

If the people have the freedom to own guns, they create a check on their government, and can resist tyranny. If it's a privilege, and the government can take away the privilege as it sees fit, that can create dangerous situations down the road. Long live 2A

Just so your pathetically under developed brain might contain some useful information in the future; no body is talking about banning all guns. Anthony Duckworth you call them fuckwads yet you're too stupid to even process the fact that these kids live in gun-owning households and just don't want to be murdered because hysterical dipshits like you think that any sort of change to the law is going to result in you losing your little toys. Please explain to me why you owning an AR-15 is more important than children not dying.

      What the hell are you talking about, these kids are achieving fantastically by any reading of Jordan Peterson’s rules- standing up straight and being the hero to sort order from chaos. There’s no way you could share Peterson’s values and not see these kids as prime examples of archetypical heroes. Fine lobsters indeed!

      @SteveScapesYT 6 лет назад

      Uh-huh, and I guess when faced with non-postmodern, non-regressive progressives that speak with the vast majority of Americans on their side, the right has no choice but to go full-blown Alex Jones conspiracy theory. It's been hilarious watching the smartest, most rationale conservative voices absolutely brain-melt shit themselves over this. You are all so fucking triggered, and it's beautiful!

    • @SteveScapesYT
      @SteveScapesYT 6 лет назад

      Not by logic-- they're not melting because their logic is being beaten, the logic of the conservatives is sound. Conservatives aren't stupid, and the folks I respect on the right like Ben Shapiro or Dennis Prager would never fail in their logic. No, there are logical and strong rationale on thought on both sides. However, they KNOW that their logic doesn't carry weight with the majority of the people in sentiment; and that's what's driving the reactions.

    • @SteveScapesYT
      @SteveScapesYT 6 лет назад +2

      You have to remember that these kids are putting forth very specific recommendations-- stronger background checks, 90% of Americans agree with that. Ban on assault rifles almost 70%. Closing the gunshow loop, making it illegal to sell guns without background checks-- these are not things that eliminate the 2nd amendment, and they're things that if you go through the polls, you will find favor with even among gun owners. I don't need to source polls in internet debates because I know you're just going to try to de-legitimize the sources anyway-- you can look yourself for polls that say what I've said. The point is I don't need to win the debate because the facts (that don't care about your feelings) of public sentiment are what are driving these kids message to prominence.

    Easy for them to say. I'll bet their parents being former FBI and LEO won't voluntarilly give up their guns. My workplace suffered a mass shooting and the person was over the age of 21 and used a handgun. I also had family member killed in similar incident. BTW why don't these kids have anything to say about all the armed security at the recent Oscar Awards ceremony?

      You asked me what their issue would be on. You then asked what policies they wanted. I didn't mention anything about policies. The original comment was that surviving a shooting doesn't make you an expert. I rebutted that. Read my initial reply again and stop bothering me with things I haven't said.

      My last reply was explaining to you what my initial reply meant. Let me walk you through this:
      1 - The original comment was that surviving a shooting doesn't make you an expert on 'gun control' policy. [gun control policy. That will come into play later on in my walkthrough]
      2 - I pushed back against his position saying that while it may not make them an expert, it really does focus them on the issue [that gun control policy he mentioned]
      3 - You *love* your guns. Ooh, you just love your guns yes you do yes you do.
      4 - I answered your question. [gun control]
      5 - You *love* your guns yes you do yes you do.
      6 - I explained further what I meant, then redirected you to my initial reply [about the gun control which the guy's original comment was about]
      7 - Oooh, you fucking *love* your guns yes you do yes you do
      8 - This reply.

    So I'm to believe that these teenagers spawned a massive gun control movement on their own in a matter of a week? These kids clearly have a massive team behind them that somehow mobilized into a national movement in a suspiciously quick amount of time? It's amazing to me that a large portion of our population is falling for this charade.

    You want to save lives begin by going after your own police force who failed you. Not only in not arresting the shooter when he posted death threats online but also the police man who was hired to protect the school. His ONLY JOB was to protect the school. He failed. No one took action before the shooting. Even Emma Gonzalez admitted people make fun of the kid. Seems A NUMBER of things took place which caused the terrible incident.
