Fun fact: this song is not about the crusades, but talks about the sack or Rome in 1527 and the last stand of the Swiss guard to protect the Pope
Yeah I'm pretty sure or at least I hope most people know that.. but its much more fun to think its a crusade song
Yeah (from what very little I know about this) I think the crusaders attacked the swedish Pope
"It was 1527" is literally the only part I understand from the entire song.
The exact date of the Sack of Rome was May 6, 1527. 42 of the Swiss Guard's 189-strong force led Pope Clement VII to Castel Sant' Angelo, while the rest of the men stayed to defend the Basilica - "on the steps to heaven" - against the mutinous mercenary army of Charles V, the Holy Roman Emperor. Thought it was interesting to note.
