Quentin Tarantino gave this song new life in “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.” Tarantino knows his music - and how influential Neil Diamond was to the LA culture during the 60s.
A side story - he used to have his concerts at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles which is below the Griffith Observatory and nestled in the hills and trees. His concerts always sold out, and whether people missed out on the tickets or couldn’t afford them, they would climb into the trees on the outskirts so they could see the show. They were known as the tree people and they’re usually shooed away by patrol but he always said he wouldn’t play unless the tree people were allowed to stay. What a guy!
He's a mensch! “I saw the announcement that the bomber had been caught and the game would go on. The more I thought about it, the more I just knew I had to be there,” Diamond told Red Sox historian Gordon Edes. “It was the night before the game. No one was aware we were coming, but it felt so right that neither my wife nor I questioned it. We landed in Boston a little more than an hour before the game started.” “There was no band or music prepared for my appearance. I didn?t really have a plan. They handed me a microphone, I walked out on the field between home plate and first base and was careful not to step on the line,” Diamond said. “I sang along to the recorded version of the song that they usually use, so there were actually two Neil Diamond?s singing, the 1969 Neil and the 2013 Neil. I was just singing along with everyone else.” It’s become something he himself never will forget, either. “It was a very powerful moment with the audience joining in as one. There was a feeling of relief, unity, strength and love. I saw people in tears, people hugging. It was a moment that I will never forget,” Diamond said. “This day is among the most memorable of my career, and it was totally unplanned and unprepared. Maybe that?s where God came into the picture and helped it all come together in such a beautiful and spontaneous way.”
I get religion every time I hear this song. When I was a kid, every summer the local community churches held revival services. Neil is actually Jewish... Not that it matters! But, he used to sing in a church choir and he absolutely loved it!!! He had a few Christmas albums. So, he’s obviously spiritual... God bless you all!!✌️😃
I remember watching his Christmas concert special on HBO back in the 90's. Religion didn't matter to Neil when the music and songs were great. That's one of the things that appeals him to such a wide range of generations and fans.
Hi Ed! I just read your comment and I’m sorry to hear that your sick with the virus! I hope you get better! I will say a prayer for you! God bless and take care! From Australia!
This reminded me of going to tent revivals when I was a kid. I haven't seen a tent revival in a long time. This country needs to get back to praising God and having morals.
There is not enough that can be said about Neil Diamond. He is an absolute icon among American singers/songwriters. Has sold over 130 million records, enjoyed over 35 Top 40 hits and 10 #1 hits. He is in the Songwriters HOF, Rock & Roll HOF; Kennedy Centers Award; Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, and has his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The song, I'm a Believer, which he wrote but the group "The Monkees" released as a single (before he did and with his approval) went Gold in 2 days and became the 1966 Song of The Year. In 2019 his most notable song, Sweet Caroline, was selected by The Library of Congress for preservationinto the National Recording Registry due to its long term popularity (50 yrs) and its cultural/historical significance. He retired from toring in 2018 due to Alzhiemers, but has done made surprise appearances at some fund-raising events, special ceremonies. Incredibly talented.
My brain still holds the hot August night album version, so this didnt sound right, chunks missing. Please, listen to the hot August night album, you dont even have to react, do it on your own time. It is one of the absolute best albums of all time imo
I love this song so much, I wish you had watched the live video where he tells about what this song is about! It part of the concert where he's wearing the dark red shirt. It is an amazing version of this song! Great reaction as always though! Thank you for this one!!
The only song of his I love more than this one is "I am, I said" and that's purely a personal connection. This man's music comforted me throughout my childhood, and I'm proud to say I saw him live during his last tour. He is quite a spiritual experience, his ability to connect with his audience is amazing. He's an incredible songwriter and storyteller. Edited to elaborate.
I love how you are introducing a new generation to a lot of the music I grew up with. The Blue Eyed Soul, Neil Diamond, and so many others. Blessings to you. Keep it up.
Jamal we need more songs like this we had a lot of theses song back in 60s and early 70s we need more joy this covid is hitting hard we’re we live in Bakersfield,Ca..
People under 70 years old have a 99.96 percent chance of survival. Covid is pesky for sure but odds are on your side. Stop with the bloody lockdowns! They are worse than better...
The guys making him sound good: “Such is the case with the Memphis Boys, the house band at American Sound Studios who cut an astounding 122 hit records in the brief span between 1967 and 1972. Composed of guitarist Reggie Young, bassists Tommy Cogbill and Mike Leech, keyboardists Bobby Emmons and Bobby Wood, and drummer Gene Chrisman, the group was fundamental in launching or rekindling the careers of some of popular music’s biggest stars, including Elvis Presley, Dusty Springfield, Neil Diamond, and Wilson Pickett.”
The story I heard was he volunteered in College to go to the south to work with the poor when one day a tent revival came to town and he say that lifting up sprits can be as important as helping with the physical.
When I was little, my dad woke me up and told me to come out to the living room. He surprised me and played Cracklin' Rose 6 times in a row from the Neil Diamond album he'd just bought, that was back in '68-'69. He and my mom smiled on as I listened entranced to my favorite song back then. In the mid 80's I saw him in concert, it's an experience I'll never forget. Thank you for covering this extraordinary musical genius, Jamel. ❤ Here is another Neil Diamond song that is unforgettable. ruclips.net/video/Ero_zy_O3fA/видео.html
30 years ago, the man I worked for, who was about 20 years older than me, I was 30 he was 50, he told me his wife trapped him into going to a Neil Diamond concert on their wedding anniversary. Even though he was 20 years older than me, we'd both been through some great music and concerts, hard rock, good pop, disco...Next day he told me it was THE BEST live concert he'd ever been to!
Neil Diamond NEVER made a bad song. Just love him. This song gave me goosebumps even after all these years. America is another one of his that gives me the arm bumps.
The loss of connection through this pandemic has reminded me how much I miss meeting new people. Good on you Jamel for your spirit and your heart! Peace to you too ! 💜✌

I loved watching your reaction to this! YOU GET IT! He played this song in Great Britain and the audience had ZERO reaction. There's a video of it there somewhere. I think this is his most underrated song. Glad you enjoyed it! Much Love my brother!
Thank you for doing this one. I figured you would like it. Neil is such a great talent, I love his music.
The thing that really reaches me with Neil's Lyrics, I could almost smell that sweet grass!
..and hear yourself sweat....
@@leslauner5062 I agree! Have you heard cherry cherry Christmas?
@@pammym190 I've heard Cherry Cherry....
Tomorrow I'm in the hospital fighting my ass off against covid Your reviews really brighten my day brother
Blessing to you for a quick recovery. 💕💕💕
Hi Ed! I just read your comment and I’m sorry to hear that your sick with the virus! I hope you get better! I will say a prayer for you! God bless and take care! From Australia!
Thank you all so much for your blessings I won it was a heck of a fight but I am here standing thank you all very much
This is one of my favorite songs from Neil Diamond.
I was fortunate to see him in concert in Chicago shortly before he came out and announced his retirement, he had the the place rockin that night.
I love that you've been reacting to Neil!
This reminded me of going to tent revivals when I was a kid. I haven't seen a tent revival in a long time. This country needs to get back to praising God and having morals.
They are coming back. Check out Timothy Dixon, and His Glory here on YT.
LOVE this one. "Soolaimon" from Tap Root Manuscript is another fave.
Both that and this one are down right spitiual, makes me sway, and let them wash over me.
Yes! Not as massive a hit on oldies radio but I love this one. And it charted as well in its day as this song did.
From the "African Trilogy" on side 2.
"Walk on Water" is another one like this that was a hit in its day.
Yes, soolaimon!!
Wow, who knew.
He suffers from Parkinson's, not Alzheimer's.
My brain still holds the hot August night album version, so this didnt sound right, chunks missing.
Please, listen to the hot August night album, you dont even have to react, do it on your own time. It is one of the absolute best albums of all time imo
I have heard this song hundreds of times in my lifetime, but seeing your reaction to it gave it a whole other meaning. Thank you!
I love this song so much, I wish you had watched the live video where he tells about what this song is about! It part of the concert where he's wearing the dark red shirt. It is an amazing version of this song! Great reaction as always though! Thank you for this one!!

@@musicluvr70 Yes, that's the one!
One of our generation’s greatest songwriters! 💃🏻🕺🏽💃🏻🕺🏽💃🏻🕺🏽💃🏻🕺🏽💃🏻🕺🏽♥️
"Indian Reservation" by Paul Revere and the Raiders
Oh this one is a banger too
I love how you are introducing a new generation to a lot of the music I grew up with. The Blue Eyed Soul, Neil Diamond, and so many others. Blessings to you. Keep it up.
Neil Diamond is so much better live! Please react to move of his live performances!
Preach it!Lucky enough to see Neil in his prime back in the day.It was like a holy rock and roll revival!🥰😊
Jamal we need more songs like this we had a lot of theses song back in 60s and early 70s we need more joy this covid is hitting hard we’re we live in Bakersfield,Ca..
You said it, Teri. I'm in McFarland, and it hit me a few weeks ago. All good now, but it sucked. Lol
Stay safe. It’s a freaking scary time.
People under 70 years old have a 99.96 percent chance of survival. Covid is pesky for sure but odds are on your side. Stop with the bloody lockdowns! They are worse than better...
Thank y’all so much for your reply’s...
Neil is one of a kind like him or not there will never be another like him...
This song is Godspell, Hair, and Tommy all wrapped up in one amazing voice.
. . . And then , much more ... SO much more .
The live version on Hot August Night will make your soul soar!
The guys making him sound good:
“Such is the case with the Memphis Boys, the house band at American Sound Studios who cut an astounding 122 hit records in the brief span between 1967 and 1972.
Love this tune by Neil. Check out Solitary Man 😃👍
"Hot August Nights" would be a great name for a live album.
LOL!
And Girl, You'll Be a Woman soon‐‐ the original! I love the Urge Overkill version too, but Neil cannot be denied!
one of the best tributes was when Neil received the Kennedy Center Honors in 2011
Neil incarnated on earth to bring us these songs. An angel sent from heaven to teach us how to feel our human experience.
This is a wonderful song. The live version is even more spiritually uplifting, IMO. The vocals are just on another level.
Can you please do Eddie money take me home tonight please thank you very much
The story I heard was he volunteered in College to go to the south to work with the poor when one day a tent revival came to town and he say that lifting up sprits can be as important as helping with the physical.
Here is another Neil Diamond song that is unforgettable. ruclips.net/video/Ero_zy_O3fA/видео.html
You need to listen to The Live "Hot August Night" Album!
I’m 81 and this one still gives me chills and makes me move !!!!
To me, this is Jamel's theme song, spreading the gospel of excellent music!!!....Hallelujah!!!
Another fantastic reaction Jamel, I could feel your love and appreciation, for the good works from Neil Diamond. This is one of my favorites.
Takes me back! ❤ You would love "Coming to America"
The song is just called "America." It's like when people think Three Dog Night's "Joy yo the World" is called, "Jeremiah was a bullfrog ."
People don't realize how incredibly powerful appreciating the little things in life can be.
So true.
This song(always loved this one) kinda gives me the same vibe as Loves Me Like A Rock-Paul Simon..please react if you can!
I'd go with Bridge Over Troubled Waters, for that.
Thanks Jamel for doing this! Love this tune
You keep me centered Jamel!
"You can hear yourself sweat." This is definately a northerner experiencing the south.
Neil put on A GREAT show!
Neil Diamond NEVER made a bad song. Just love him. This song gave me goosebumps even after all these years. America is another one of his that gives me the arm bumps.
Jamel, you brought such joy to my life when you reacted to this song!
Love on the rocks or Hello Again.
"Two good hands" seems like an invitation to clap along as well as help your brother up.
I thought I had heard every Neil Diamond song, but this was new to my ears. What a delight! Thanks.
✌❤😊🎶
I think “Brooklyn Roads” is his best song
I know you are a busy man but do yourself a favor and find a good live version of this song you won’t be disappointed!✌🏻
"If You Know What I Mean" and "Dry Your Eyes" from the Last Waltz.
Oh yes
Loved that whole concert and Neil gave me the chills 🖤
"Dry your eyes"..a song that resonates in the body. Or maybe our bodies resonate in the song.
He was so heavily influenced by gospel songs. Now listen to Holly Holy.
The loss of connection through this pandemic has reminded me how much I miss meeting new people. Good on you Jamel for your spirit and your heart! Peace to you too ! 💜✌
One of my favorite Neil Diamond tunes!
He left the stage with Brother Love then returned with Soolaimon!
Love on the Rocks, You Don’t Bring Me Flowers duet with Barbara Streisand, America, Shilo, Hello, just some of his amazing songs.
You Don't Bring Me Flowers, the first mashup. They recorded the song separately, but a DJ put them together.
