The only real complaints about the DR-Z400 are that it’s carbureted and has a 5-speed transmission. Aside from those two things, it’s a pretty flawless motorcycle as either a dual-sport or a supermoto. If those two things are a big deal to someone, they might prefer the KLX. But in every other case, the DR-Z is the better machine. More power, better fully-adjustable suspension, decent enough lights, very very reliable, sounds better, more parts for modding, etc.

I previously owned a DRZ400 SM. I currently own a KLX300 SM. There are enough differences to nitpick. What are the differences that matter? DRZ has more low-end power. (better for wheelies and such) DRZ is heavier, taller, and weighs more. DRZ is carborated. If you've ever had issues with fuel getting old (carb clean and retune on any bike) or riding at altitude, then you know there are reasons to avoid carbs. KLX is lighter, lower, cheaper, Fuel Injected and a little smoother RPMs on the freeway / highway. Low end wheelies are easily addressed with a sprocket change. If you already have one or the other, just ride it and enjoy it. I see no reason to sell one to buy the other. Having previously owned a DRZ, I chose the KLX for price and F.I. There is no poor choice for these 2 bikes, assuming you would use EITHER in the same way. Want to tour? Maybe think about something else. Want to ride trails? Maybe think about something else.

@@ganuvien 490 was scrapped
Short suspension, no, tanks.
How much do you weigh? Because im 200lbs and that seemed like half throttle on my drz
about 240 haha aerodynamics are not my friend
Dude your bike isn't running right or mine is just that much faster your drz should be way quicker than it is
So the thing I think a lot of people don’t always know is that I am a fat guy hahaha when my gf rides it, it’s much faster haha
You didn't talk about suspension.
Both bikes have a very similar set from the factory suspension. You can make slight adjustments to both but neither is really worth mentioning over the other. The drz is slightly stiffer but if you’re really getting into the curves hard then both need upgraded. For every day riding they’re fine though
@Slo-Moto I would like to know how they handle rough terrain as they're based on "dirt bikes".
Great videos!!!
I feel sorry for all the folks who decide on efi just because a salesperson said it's shiny and new. Efi at its best run like a poorly tuned carb.
Exactly. Many people don't know what they're missing out on. I've had lots of dirt and street bikes, carbed and FI, and I've never had a problem with carbs.
Something is really wrong with your drz
first
Heck yeah, shoot me a message on Instagram
Help for your vids, watch vids by yammie noob and do the opposite of him!
6th gear! KLX wins
6th gear is nice, didn’t think I could do the 6th gear mod and go slower haha
It's down 15 hp from the Dr.Z. It needs a 6th gear.
Fuel injection or nothing!
Results are in: both are slow AF
make up your mind already LOL the DRZ= good wheelie power....KLX= not so much of anything...."GBB"
It’s tough, I love both of them for different reasons, if I had to get rid of one with would probably scramble my brain trying to figure it out
I would also like to ask which one feels lighter and more maneuverable and also in stock form which one is better on the highway
The KLX definitely feels lighter and more nimble, the drz more planted and smooth. The KLX can feel twitchy at times
