When I came across them on Spotify I thought it must have been a band from the 60/70's. They sound so authentic, not only their songwriting but also the mixing.
This is the problem I have with them...if you want to hear 60s or 70s music just listen to loads of albums from that period. It kind of applies to an regressive looking fad. Theres nothing wrong with taking elements of the past if you give it some modern element...this doesnt...sorry
@@atomiccritter6492 but the music from the 70s and 80s isn’t the same as the lemon twigs. I don’t listen to music just for the sound. This is one of the most confusing comments I’ve ever read
Yeah, This genre is called parody rock.
@@atomiccritter6492 People listen to what they like and play what inspires them. No need to be modern for the sake of being modern.
Saw an interview they did with Todd Rundgren and they mentioned using old analog equipment, which most their age don't even know how to use.
That moment when you discover something you know it will become an obsession for days
Sabrina Brontesi saw them last night. Never heard a song before and never seen a band like them....
Sabrina Brontesi z
Like Greeta Van Fleet
or Months.....
good luck buddy turned into years for me
a fusion of Beatles sensibility, beach boys harmonies, a flourish of Todd Rundgren, and voices clear, earnest and pleading.....perfection
Exacto!
It’s hollow. The songs underneath the annoyingly clever arrangements and production just aren’t that great.
@@a5dr3 You obviously haven't heard their recent two albums. The songwriting has definitely developed since this song was recorded.
@@carolfan4466 I’m skeptical of your taste because what I’ve heard that I find particularly egregious is all recent. This is by far the best thing I’ve heard from them and it’s old.
ruclips.net/video/W91Ofs6W8Nw/видео.htmlsi=hZNgdKGiijIB69ZE
Most of their songs are mediocre but dressed up and disguised with a collection of odd turnarounds and intentionally outdated chord gimmicks. Wilco kind of does similar things and it fools most of the hipsters, but the emperor is wearing no clothes.
Anyways, if they would spend more time between albums or be more selective they have the potential to be very good. The song I just posted is a great song.
@@a5dr3 Okay pal.... 🙄
i dont care how much inspiration theyve taken from people before them, these guys are talented so i support them!
'These Words', the brilliant new single by The Lemon Twigs. Their debut album 'Do Hollywood' is released 14th October 2016.
I remember the first time I heard this song on the radio (88.5 in LA) while I was driving home one night and I was like, holy eargasm! I got home and hunted it down so I could listen to it over and over again. It's become one of my favorite songs. It's the perfect song to spazz out to late at night. I love it.
Toatlly
That's where I heard it first too -- 88.5, in the car. It felt completely fresh and yet somehow familiar. With so much dreck being cranked out these days, it's nice to see these guys, wo can actually put together a melody, doing well.
If 16th century musketeers frolicking around to retro psych-pop music sounds like your kinda thing then The Lemon Twigs' new video for "These Words" is the one for you. This is officially our Vevo UK - TRACK OF THE WEEK!
Lol nice one
That clothing style is distinctly 18th century, sir, if you'll forgive my pedantry.
lordsleepyhead
You beat me to my era correction OCD
It's more like 18th century but it's ok, you're just a music channel.
These guys are 17 and 19 years old. I suspect that as the years go by, they are only going to get better.
Steven Taylor God Willing, man 😄👍
These guys are wine 🌋
Steven Taylor hopefully, then again see Foxygen
You weren’t wrong
They will until a certain point. Only a very rare few musicians maintain the same creative quality in their 40s+, much less get better; but hey, flowers bloom and then wilt. Not everyone can be a freaking evergreen like King Buzzo or Mike Patton.
THESE ARE THE KIDS FROM MEMBERS OF THE PRESS WHO USED TO DO MCR COVERS OMG THEY'VE COME SO FAR.
Love the Barry Lyndon influences in the video. They even got candles with three wicks. Very cool!
it's like 70s rock
sounds more 60s to me
a bit hokey-pokey
I feel ya, ELO, Queen, Supertramp, perhaps the Beatles.
that's right
lynyrd skynyrd is 70's rock this is more like john denver or some shit
I actually liked this very much, it's incredibly unique
HOLY SHIT!!!!!!!!! HERE COMES THE REVOLUTION! Music is pulling itself out of the ditch and coming back strong with incredible stuff like this! Can anyone say Todd Rundgren? Im giddy with excitement!
I'm with you! Choral subdued with rock...awww and they(these two gents) can be the modern mix of the Beatles, Beach Boys, Queen, Toad the Wet Sprocket (Toadies), Ben Folds Five, White Stripes...anticipating great things from them Lemon Twigs.
Anna,
If you like these guys, you might want to try out FUGU (French band), Great Lakes, of Montreal, Midlake and Stereolab. Someone below (Arikus Silurian) said they sound like Lindisfarne, they do, one of my favorite bands ever!
TheDevilWithin -Yes! Todd, beatles and a little Toad the Wet Sprocket.
todd rundgren, beach boys, supertramp, moody blues, beatles, as much as their is pop on the album there are many intricate instrumental breaks in a prog fashion all over this record, definitely deserved to be noticed as a duo
shit like this has been released consistently for the last 10 years, you're just uninformed
The music these brothers are doing is like the water you guzzle after being stranded in the desert way too long.
So, so, so talented... great to find that modern bands can still produce music so beautiful.
Brilliant, Queen, Sparks , the Beatles and Jellyfish are back in town... Congrats , awesome
Jellyfish!
Some Big Star as well!
That's exactly what I thought!!
Don't insult those bands like that, lol...
ok i hated the other song i just listened to of them, where he was just ripping off early bowie in the most bland and boring way, but this one kinda reminds me of split enz and i don't wanna like it but i kinda do..
Lemon Twiggs are so good, they remind me of Supertramp!
I was sleeping under a rock for like 5 years. I’m so glad I found this band. Definitely a new fan and love their music!
This is amazing! The chorus gave me chills.
I play Warcraft with the bassist lol
lulwutmurloc that's great
@@MagickFlavour bassist isnt in band anymore
Zach Smith probably got too addicted to Warcraft
Hope solo career but close 😅.
name checks out
Best band around right now.
The high kick and orange toss at 3:22 means everything to my soul.
this band is pure magic, thanks for keep it the true rock flame alive!
I don't remember this episode of Horrible Histories
Alice Gunning I highly doubt you have the slightest amount of talent they do
i don't know why you took that as an insult
Se pasó de verga
Why do I have to follow you
To know just who I am?
I have enough previous worlds
To know which one I'm in
These words, these words
Mean nothing to my soul
These words, these words
Save only to fill up a hole
Why can't I flow softly downstream
Without the violent surf
If I knew who I was talking about
Perhaps I'd know my worth
These words, these words
Mean nothing to my soul
These words, these words
Save only to fill up a hole
(Epic xylophone solo, yes . . . xylophone)
These words, these words
Mean nothing to my soul
(Bum, bum, bum, bum, bum)
These words, these words
Save only to fill up a hole
Thx
Thank you so much ! 💕💕
That was a pretty epic xylophone solo
This drummer is channeling Keith moon so well it's bloody magnificent
Jack Ritchie thought I was he only one who noticed it.
so true!
late teens doing 70's PsychRock. I am completely in love. This is AMAZING.
It feels like they took their influences and make them into an actual thing, weird and kinda unique. It's good and it could do some interessing things. For now, I like it.
I'm officially obsessed.
I love this sm
I like this OMG what have I discovered😅👌😍
1960 :P
1960 :P
Emily Maloney I like you
White Album and Abbey Road--listen to those and thank me later.
Michael Mata will do. x
Um these people are 17 and 20 years old what am I doing with my life
i thought the same thing
19 and 21 now.
20 and 22 now
I mean, that’s kinda the age that you do a lot of this artsy shit.
@@bluepandaman I mean, they are talented since then. Check their cover of Dead! by MCR. That's them and I think they deserve this.
I work at Marshall's and they play this. It sounds so beat Alaskan so 60s I had to find out who it was recorded this. So I remember the words and found the lemon twigs!!!! It's a great song!!!
definitedoll I also work at marshalls lol. I hear this song at work all the time.
These words are to compliment you for not being afraid to be YOU!!!
I like the Twigs! They should have their own Saturday morning cartoon!
my parents were playing this and before I didn’t like it now I literally love it
Ladies and Gentlemen, you are witnessing the return of artist to the craft of music. Expressing themselves through the medium of sound. Finally.
Reminds me of supertramp, nobody else? This is brilliant! Can't believe how young they are either.... The next big thing!!!
Pure genius! The most important band in the world today.
I've listened to this around 50 times today.
I saw them in England the other night. Beautiful.
This band is gonna be super popular, I can feel it!
This IMMEDIATELY upon hearing it, went on my list for one of my favourite songs ever. Then I heard As Long As We're Together and it made the list too, what? How can that be? then I realized what was happening. Next to the perfection of Jeff Buckley's Grace when it came out...I think The Lemon Twigs did it with Do Hollywood and are truly one of those wonderful long time in the making, destined incarnations in music. (Thank you cool parents everywhere and especially theirs). I hum and sing their songs respectively whilst doing daily things. Their music makes me happy. I love a good rock opera and cannot wait for what is to come...go any way you want Michael and Brian...I for one, will follow.
LOVE the song & the visuals! Excited to catch you guys live this month.
un savant mélange de Queen et des Beatles avec un je ne sais quoi en plus. J'adore 😍
Bien influencé par le prog des années 70.
cute - beatle-esque - moon-ish drummer (lite) - just lovely
THE BEST SONG I'VE EVER HEARD
You must not listen to music then.
:(
OK Computer is easily one of my favorite albums of all time. That being said, I enjoy a lot of other music as well. I happened to enjoy this song, though I never literally meant "best." I was just excited after hearing this song for the first time.
Please be wise before you judge others.
exactly.
+dead and cool i guess..
I actually got to meet these guys at Green Man 2018 and see them perform live there. It is one of the most unforgettable experiences of my life.
Wow they started just a year ago and already got a gig at The tonight show.
HAHA! NO! i didnt know the durmmer dude played the kid in sinister, when i saw ur comment i looked at his imdb. cant help but lose some respect a little bit for some reason.
they are still massively talented tho!
thats why im here bruvva
They started when they were 7 lol these guys are basically music prodigies. Their father was a session musician and their mother was a singer. Brian is 19 and Michael is 17. They're fucking unreal. So cool that Colbert featured em.
Zach Litchman Not basically, they are.
Absolutely LOVE these lads! Well done.
Not all young people stare at phones, some learn to make music. Those are the ones we like! I love you so much!
Waiting to see this group perform live tonight. Can hardly wait.
Such a great song
These guys are GENIUS
This was a really fun video to watch (and to listen to!)
Looking forward to seeing what your upcoming album sounds like.
Michael is so beautiful in this costume lets be honest
I saw them play on the Jimmy Fallon show that plays everyday at 3:00 PM EST
Right at the end they were playing this! I fell in love
Yes I saw them play live too and really enjoyed their ambience and the nuances of something more...awww youth! They're talented for being so young!
They are amazing I love thier old music style they have
Loved this song from the begining, never tought that the video was so into Barry Lyndon.
This song structure, melody, chorus is just so fantastic, reminds me of the Moody Blues and Supertramp, prog af
hippiecheezburger You just named two non-prog bands.

So glad I stumbled upon this goodness ❤❤ All of The Lemon Twigs songs are awesome, like living in the 70s
I think people these days don't know how to react to good music
True bro!
That's not what's happening. People have different tastes

Millenials*
@@nostalgic324 Hey! Not all Millenials* just many let the side down like many things in life.
Really love the drumming work on this one! Great Job!
frick I found my new favorite band
This song is really calming for some reason, I was getting really worked up over something today and just played it on repeat and feel a lot better
Wow, just wow. TALENT
Whoever produced this is a fucking master.
That my friend, would be Jonathan Rado. He's in Foxygen, but also produces for other bands/artists too like Whitney.
Silver JoJo Rain rado is the fuckin man I love foxygen saw them twice and two of the best shows I've ever seen
It's fantastic. I read an interview with Jonathan Rado in Tape Op magazine. If they change producers for the next album, I can also easily imagine Jon Brion, Jason Falkner, or Ethan Johns behind the board.
Love this 70's sound! these kids are amazing!
Fantastic🎶 Great harmonies and looks like you had a lot of fun doing it. Looking forward to the new CD. Keep up the great work👍
Amo esse duo 💞
MGMT meets Ben folds, amazing lift in the chorus. Music with character.
I can't believe this album came out five years ago. I remember being eleven or twelve and waking up before my alarm just so I could plug my headphones into my iPod and jam to these songs. This music will always remind me of those dark mornings when I was alone in my room and I could block out the entire world with just a tap of the play button.
You might like a band called The Doublejumps if you like Lemon Twigs
LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!
Can't stop listening to this song!
holy crap this is fantastic
Love this song so much!
Love these guys!
I’ve watched live videos of this song and they play it live almost in a bluesy way...forgot how good the original mix is and how on point their harmonies are. Hope they get more famous
MASTERPIECE!!
This song.....brilliant!!
Simply amazing.
I actually kinda like this.
It's pretty interesting.

I saw this band live on July 4th. They put on an excellent show.
Sounds like a Magical Mystery Tour
What's that?
PERFECT! ♥
I love this
The 70s are back and it's awesome.

I Keep on coming back to this song amazing
song of the year!
This is real awesome
Just saw The Lemon Twigs live at The Curtin in Melbourne and damn if they aren't fucking sensational! I haven't had the pleasure of seeing guitar skills like that in quite some time, not to mention how great it is to hear live vocal harmonies combined with top notch writing skills. Flawless victory guys, thanks for the amazing show!
Sounds great! Little They Might Be Giants, a little Menomena, a lot of FUN!
Not sure how I am going to find the time to work on my own songs, if I keep hitting the replay button on your uploads all the time! Really fantastic!
I LOVE THESE GUYS!!!!!
Best thing I heard this year.
Those are some beautifully placed hi-hat hisses.
really feeling the 70's vibe on this one!!!
BEST SONG OMGGGG
