When Stephanie Cole joins the cast in season 3 as Mrs. Featherstone, the Black Widow, you'll see some great banter. Great actress, great character.
Waiting for God is worth a watch - Stephanie Cole and Graham Crowden on top of their form.
Diana Trent is who I aspire to be 😁😁😁
The writing on these shows really is great. Ronnie Barker was a genius wordsmith & could make the most mundane of situations funny. Fantastic interchanges between all the principal characters as you say. Thanks once again 👍
Ronnie Barker is one of my favorite comic actors and this is indeed one of his greatest roles... However, he did NOT write this series! The credit for being a 'genius wordsmith' really belongs to Roy Clarke, who wrote several of the UK's greatest comedy series, including 'Last of the Summer Wine' and 'Keeping Up Appearances'... both of which are also well worth a review from the host of this channel... (Hint, hint!) ;)
Last of the Summer Wine is another fantastic program with the same sort of banter in it.
Written by the same guy; Roy Clarke.
From the main cast of first two series only David Jason is still with us. The third and fourth had Stephanie Cole. Sadly all the rest of the main cast have passed.
And Stephanie Cole was same age as David Jason
Looks years older than him

She was wonderful in 'Waiting for God'.
@@hypsyzygy506 Diana Trent is my idol ..!
@@hypsyzygy506She's amazing in 'Man Down' too!
Loved it, would so love to watch British Comedy with you. Thanks for sharing a great episode.
One of the customers is Edna Dore who played Frank Butcher's mum Mo Butcher in EastEnders.
Great ! Please get back on to Rising Damp too ! 😃
Yay!!! Im glad your doing these again beard😁
The quality of ALL the actors in every episode us outstanding, even those that appeared just once or twice, like the Tailor, the Deaf guy, or the 'speciol' man right down to the customers that appeared just once, everyone of them nailed their lines, perfect timing
I actually think this has aged better than Porridge, Ronnie Barker's other main classic hit show.
Please consider reacting to The Good Life, it’s not only a classic but still absolutely hilarious!
bringing back my childhood,to think granville became del boy (only fools and horses). They made a new version and granville inherits shop its called still open all hours.
The original show began back in 1973, with The Two Ronnies star Ronnie Barker starring in the sitcom alongside Sir David as corner shop owner Albert Arkwright. In the revival, Granville took over ownership of the corner shop with his son Leroy (James Baxter).
Open All Hours ran for four series with a total of 26 episodes, while Still Open All Hours made it to six series with an episode count of 41.
The old English expression a "bunk up" not only meant a boost/lift but could mean s-e-x.
The old lady, first customer, was a character actress Edna Dore. I saw her in a play at The National Theatre.
I remember my father(RIP) was a big fan of Ronnie Barker(RIP) and was also an Antiques dealer of sorts, I spent most of my youth from the early 80s onwards around antique shops, Markets and what we call car boot sales in the uk, usually set in a car park people sold stuff from small tables, we had a local car boot sale just on the other side of my home town we used to visit every Sunday, at some point Ronnie Barker had retired and my father said that he had opened an Antique shop and said he had visited it and sold Ronnie Barker a clock or something, now my father was renowned for telling lets just say tall tales so I just shrugged it off as that, but one day I was at our local car boot with my father and spotted Lynda Baron (Nurse Gladys Emmanuel) I was shocked and even more shocked when she spotted my dad snuck up behind him put her hand on his shoulder he turned around and said the usual hello how are you etc like old friends, I was blown away and still am now.
Was walking down that street last week, the one he cycled down with the legs in the front basket, in Doncaster Town centre
There's a comedy series called "dinnerladies" that you might find funny. There should be compilation clips on RUclips
These sort of shops disappeared in the eighty's your still find some in little villages tho 👍
02:50 "It happens; happens a lot."
14:18 A lot of corner shops at the time operated on a single self-service shelf made of fresh Formica.
14:41 There've been hippie communes with more organisation.
9:09 For the Americans' information: This actress, Madge Hindle was once Lady Mayor of Blackburn Lancashire UK. in real life
Something you may not know regarding the register draw. It was connected to strings that ran into the room behind it and someone would pull the draw closed to create the effect.
Q: What's worse than biting into an apple and finding a worm in it?
A: Biting into an apple and finding HALF a worm! ;)
The governor, and it was a right of passage growing up watching these as a kid. In fact we were almost made to watch them back then lol. I must have seen them all 10 times over, and to this day they still never get old!
At 17:45 you can see a BBC Camera, as was typically used back then in shot. That black square thing in the doorway. 😀
22:39
watch carefully as he walks backwards........
he knocks a box off the counter and leaves another sticking out
without breaking or losing track of the script he moves it back because he knows the counter coming down is next and would hit the box
total professional
how many would have had to retake that because of a slight error
My favourite bits are whenever Granville impersonates Arkwrights stutter. (Arkwright) just j j j jiggle it a bit. I can't j j j jiggle it a bit. Their both such versatile actors. David Jason was good later on in his serious role as Detective inspector Frost.
traffe316 has done a reaction to a full episode of the "young ones" and he said that by removing a scene he's allowed it on youtube. thought you might find that interesting. "young ones" is the series that came before "bottom"
There’s a bit of a running gag whenever he puts money in the till it tries to bite his fingers because it closes very quickly
I work 5 minutes away from where this was filmed. It's a hairdressers although I've never seen it open.
Technically it's location would never work as a store because it's sort of in the middle of a small residential area (no main road access) but it's a good place for filming
When they did the new series a few years ago the staff used to come in for food when they did outside shots
It's been a hairdressers for a few years.
Reginald Bosanquet was a popular and long-running newsreader for ITN (Independent Television News) at the time. He would retire a few years after this episode.
Pamela Stephenson on Not the 9 O'clock News sang a song about him called Oh Bosanquet .He died the day before Eric Morecambe.
Reminds me of watching this with my nan when it 1st came out. Still makes me laugh.
It’s strange seeing Del Boy from Only Fools and Horses in the old days as a shop assistant.
The shop is actually a hairdressers business, it was used to film the outside scenes.
For the funniest screen stutter, checkout Michael Palin's in ''A Fish Called Wanda.'' A great film with John Cleese, Jamie Lee-Curtis and Kevin Kline.
Arkwright already had self-service outside the front of the shop with fruit and veg and few household items while he's inside people can still steal from.out side the shop
I love open all hours it warms my heart as I used to watch with my nainy, taidy and my mum when I was little.
I knew I live near to where this was filmed - but noticed that last week I was on the street at 7:53 with the bicycle and legs in the basket (it's pedestrianised now with parking about 500 yards away from the scene) The shop names have changed, but I only recognised by the shape and positioning of the buildings one of the markets to the left of the shot). It is Doncaster city centre.
"Doncaster city." I see what you did there!
Brilliant, thanks so much EB!!
You smiled through every minute there. Great stuff.
War On Want is a charity....
Supermarkets were the death of most, if not all, small shops, corner shops and grocery shops like Arkwright's.
These are absolutely classic
Yes!! I've been waiting. I love this show.
After you finish open all hours try still open all hours. 😊👍🏼♥️
3:47
I think he said “I don’t want you blunting that sickle” not “blood”.
This is such a throwback to my childhood!
Keep the comedy coming,😀 it gives me a smile 😄🤪😋
I would love to have this shop at the end of my street
Bulk Buying (the many boxes of apples) is cheaper and saves money. Even though they may well be old lol.
Yorkshire humour again lol.
Love Your Reviews - Hilarious
Linda Byron - Nurse Gladys
Sadly Passed Away 😪
Form the UK 🇬🇧
React to Still Game series 1 episode 1 at one point
You'll definitely love it. Trust me
And for those who are not aware this is the same guy from the Two Ronnies four candles sketch
I think everyone already knows that.
You should check out a show called Allo' Allo' if you haven't already. It's set in WW2 France but it's hilarious despite the setting.
Similar style of humour but it's laced with raunchy double meaning jokes, has a continuous story and ran for many many seasons.
It's another BBC classic comedy, like this is.
Shame the BBC went woke, right now they wouldn't know comedy if it hit them in their balls, but that's a topic for another day.
Iconic!
Great this was 🍺🍺
I would be making apple pie and selling that
quality wordplay
Sorry, had to find something where you had the beard! Are you now known as the Eclectic Non-Beard?
Will you be doing bottom live the second part ?
He follows the old guy around the shelves exactly the way a "store detective" once followed me around Maplins pmsl.
Long hair and black leather jacket syndrome I call it.
I'm obviously a junkie, thief, out stealing, vulgar and a rotten bad un pmsl.
Not really a good comparison. Or was it a hidden showing of real life?
I recomend freddie starr The best of freddie starr as elvis presley
£2 a week rent wow 😂those days are over
I'm in a 1910 terrace nr Penny Lane. Been here 50 yrs. Was £18 pcm. in 1972, it's now £507.00 pcm.
@@irenejohnston6802 my place is slightly less than that and it's a 1 bedroom flat Lol, not including service charges.
I'm going to learn the beard how to shoot on warzone 👍
Open all Hours was a great show Porridge was better though. Both absolutely brilliant.
👍😂😂😂❤
👍💜👍💜
This is just before the north changed forever courtesy of Blair inviting the world and his wife into England.
Where is seasons 2 and 3??
I love your reaction , I really enjoyed watching this with you, laughed so much.
Have you seen the one yet, where he and Gladys went to a wedding??? Its my favourite.

Shops like this are a vanished breed now, these days it`s all self service mini marts.
She just died
Ronnie Barker was a genius but he liked smut. This was definitely his worse program. The actor were fine but it wasn't funny despite David Jason and Linda Barron.
No where near his worse program. How can you say it wasn't Funny 😂
Clarence was Barker's worst show by far. He plays a short sighted old duffer, absolutely painful
I find it very funny... Better than most comedy today anyway and just goes to show that we all have different senses of humour but by in large, most people I've seen mention it, still find it funny these days... Near enough every comedy was smutty in this era as well.
The Magnificent Evans was the worst comedy he had done.
