- Bamboo whisk vs. electric frother for making matcha-here’s why I recommend the whisk for best results!
1. The goal when whisking matcha is to suspend the matcha into the water. It will usually froth too, but froth isn’t the primary goal. The whisk, which has a lot of prongs, is more ideal for achieving this whereas I find the frother better for introducing air into the liquid.
2. When it comes to clumps, the whisk does a better job of making contact with the surfaces of the bowl. I’ve seen so many videos of matcha being made with the frother where there are clumps of matcha on the walls of the glass or bowl or in the corners.
I definitely think using a frother is better than nothing at all (and much better than using a fork lol), so I think it boils down to personal preference. Which one do you use?👇🏼

The Chasen for sure! I just like the traditional way to make matcha. These are the 5 minutes in the day where I completly consentrate me on making matcha. Its like a little timeout and the results with a chasen are much more better I think.

I use my high power vitamix with the tumbler attachment. Many bubbles and ready in seconds.
Frother for me. I use a tall shot glass (idk if it’s still considered a shot) but I noticed when I use a smaller glass I get perfect results.
As I am drinking my afternoon matcha latte...
I prefer my electric frother. I like the added fluff on top of my latte. I've tried both ways. To each their own right? & there is no wrong way to drink ur matcha.
I use both methods (and drink it straight/Americano style/not latte) just depends where I am (work or home) but do prefer the chawan + chasen to also be able to sip and enjoy the finer microfoam. At work, I'll use the handheld frother and use a stainless steel tumbler and get a great deal of bubbles, but it always escapes toward the back end of the cup once you tip to take a sip, so I can't really enjoy the creamy foamy part. Alas.

I’ve always used a bamboo whisk, however I am having pain in my right thumb for about a month now (looking into it) and wondered about using an electric frother or even Vitamix instead. Hurts too much to use the whisk right now. Thoughts?
I add matcha to some clove tea base and the vitamix works perfect.
Bamboo whisk is the way to go for me.
