    Knitting a garter st. scarf which calls for slipping the first stitch purlwise and purling the last stitch in the row. Thank you for stating that this can be done on nearly every pattern regardless of whether it calls for it or not. I love the uniformly clean and beautiful edges.

      Yes this is just a good rule of thumb to do it in spite of that. Didn’t want to confuse things by adding that info here but you can do that.
