Not only is this one of the best submissions for Joel’s challenge, but this is simply a great film in its own right. It just feels very real, and I love that. The acting, the premise... it's all fantastic. The dialogue is clever and genuine, and the pacing is on point. I’m most impressed with how the film slowly and carefully hints at the couple’s past without using any blunt exposition. On the technical side, there is some excellent framing of shots, the audio’s sharp, and the editing is smooth and sensible. Absolutely awesome work. - John
Wow, this was fantastic! You guys were able to achieve something quite incredible in under 3 hours. This film feels like a tender tribute to the love you feel for your dog. He reminded me so much of my own two dogs, and I was glad to learn by the end that he's alive and well! It's a scary thought, not having your pet around anymore. I think you guys captured it beautifully. I hope this gets the recognition it deserves :)
Wow man, I started watching this just curious what you’d made in 3 hours, but the characters and dialogue totally drew me in, I forgot all about the challenge. Huge props to you and Mikey both, and I’m glad to hear Atticus is doing well 🥲
Strong Duplass vibes, especially with the writing. Also really enjoyed your cinematography, especially the long intro shot and the aisle shots in the store, really well done!
My favorite film of the challenge I've seen so far. Wonderful storytelling! Truly blew me away you crafted this in one 3 hour session. This reminded me of those ifc indie films that released about a decade ago about regular people in the city. Great style and both of your acting really elevates this.
Why? Why did you have to make me cry so early in the morning after a sleepless night? Uh. This is a perfect movie. You were both amazing. And now I'm going to go hug my doggos!
Your an impressive filmmaker, good work and good acting all around, I enjoyed the editing decision you made of keeping the camera on the actress when she was deciding to stay or not , reminded me of whiplash. Also enjoyed the feeling of reality that sets of the “seeing your ex again fantasy” that everyone has. Good work, feeling moved and motivated .
Thank you for watching! Funny thing about that editing decision to stay on Maggie during the porch scene… we lost the reverse shot of Gus. My camera stopped rolling at some point and we didn’t notice until we had finished shooting. So I had no choice haha but I’m glad it worked out anyway!
PS thank you for using our song. We never play this one live and it has the least amount of listens on our Spotify. But it’s the best song I have ever written. It’s an honor to hear it in your amazing film. Thank you thank you thank you.
Oh cool! I've just watched the opening and it's already good. Loved the sound and title. This is on my watch list, I'm still finishing my film, will watch this tomorrow. 🎉
Edit: I've finished. It's really good. So engaging, great performances and great cinematography. It reminds me of Mark Duplas's stuff ( a compliment) Great job!
@@DashingAgent This is a film with a throbbing heartbeat. It sucks you in, churns you through the motions, and provides you with a 'pillow' to land on at the end. Pillow is a strong drama, a mature piece of Folk Film and I highly, highly recommend anybody watch your movie. Great work, and thank you.

Thanks for this awesome review, John! I’m really glad you enjoyed our movie.
I'm not crying, you're crying. This was awesome. Really well done.
It’s true. I am crying. Thank you!!
While I didn’t intend on balling my eyes out today, I’m so happy I watched this!!! This was seriously so impressive. Awesome job!!
Thanks so much for watching, Colleen. I should’ve put a trigger warning lol it’s too early for tears!
The way you put this together, your performances, the way the story unfolds... I just love this. This is impressive and I love it so much!!
I love YOU so much. Thanks Jerzi :)

Thank you so much for this kind comment! I’m really happy our movie connected with you. It really does feel more like a horror than a drama to me haha

Thanks so much for taking the time to watch it, buddy! I expect to see a 3 hour Oscar movie from you next year too!
@@DashingAgent It’s a really cool challenge, I’ll definitely at least strongly consider it haha
Simply amazing! Seriously one of your best.
Thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoyed it :)

Thank you! We didn’t write anything, though. Totally improvised!
Oh wow I totally missed that in the description, well now I'm even more impressed, lol

This is such a sweet comment. Thank you so much for taking the time to watch it. We definitely took a lot of inspiration from Blue Jay haha
@@DashingAgent totally feels like Blue Jay! Love this movie hit home hard.
I'm glad you joined his contest. Gonna watch this now.
Me too! I didn’t have a good idea until Saturday night, but it all worked out. I hope you enjoy it!

I’m so sorry! I really should’ve put a disclaimer. But yes, if you take anything from this movie… hug your dogs often and tightly.
@@DashingAgent I knew it was going to make me cry... I guess I should be mad at myself then. 😂
That was so moving!! You guys did a great job! Pepper is very confused why I’m cry cuddling her right now
Hold her tight! Never let go
This is so beautiful man. Genuinely made me cry. This has to be one of my folk films of all time!
Thank you so much for taking the time to watch it. Really glad you got something out of it :)
Looks so good and the performances are really natural. Totally invested in the characters. Kudos on the great work!
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed spending some time with Gus and Maggie haha
Liked and commented so the omniscient youtube algorithm sees how insaneo style this is!
Doesn’t get much more insaneo style imo

It’s one of my all time favs. Thanks for giving me access to so much amazing music!
Sadder than Marley and Me. But also way better. 🙌🙌
Woah! That’s high praise. Thanks buddy!

Thank you so much! Mark Duplass was a huge inspiration for this. We definitely wanted that mumblecore vibe haha
Thoroughly enjoyed this, and I was glued immediately. It was so genuine it was refreshing? Great work!
Thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoyed it :)
Three things:
1. I’m worried about y’all
2. I hope auntie Caitlin didn’t watch this
3. I am sobbing in the airport
Don’t be worried about us! Be worried for Gus and Maggie.
That was beautiful.
In every way.
Thank you so much!!
Dude, this looks so good. It’s on my list for today to watch and review. Can’t wait to get back to it.
Thank you buddy! I’m looking forward to watching yours as well!

This is so sweet. Thank you so much for your review! This was a wonderful comment to wake up to :)
Great movie! I greatly enjoyed the acting, cinematography, and the characters. But i’m left wondering... did they ever eat the ice cream?
That’s a great question. I think the ice cream was left to melt on the kitchen table all night. A damn shame. Thank you for watching!
nobody:
some mfers in the 90’s: let’s name kids Maggie and Gus
Lol. We named our characters after our childhood dogs
@@DashingAgent that’s awesome!
