Expand to 16 teams single elimination playoffs.
Reduce regular season games to 11 games and eliminate cupcake FCS out of conference games and "Conference Championships" games. The "conference champions" can be determined through round-robin and strength of schedule like Big XII did from 2011 - 2016.
Realign into 8 superconferernces and automatic bid for 8 "conference champions" and 8 at large bids. No more than 2 at large bids per conference which will force talent to be spread out more evenly across conferences making the games more competitive and exciting the whole season.
The 1st round (Sweet 16) of playoffs in lesser bowl games on neutral sites.
Not likely to have upsets in #1 vs #16, #2 vs #15, #3 vs #14, or #4 vs #13 but better odds of upsets on neutral sites for #5-8 vs #9-12 and this way, they all get their bowl game pageantry experience even if eliminated in the 1st round.
Home field advantage for the top 4 ranked teams for Quarterfinals (Elite 8).
This will make the regular season games count more because you want to be ranked in the top 4 to play in your home stadium in front of your fans cheering you on for the 2nd round and increase revenue for the school and community.
Semifinals (Final 4), and Finals (Top 2) on neutral (top 3 bowl venues) sites.
This is the way that all teams heading into playoffs will never play each other more than twice in a season and all teams play same number of games (no byes).

having the bye would make the top 4 teams face a hot one while they’re cold and that’s a trap, I don’t like that one bit. but also now 4 extra weeks of college football going into finals week and winter break, the 4 team playoff was something that no other sport has because they expanded out of spite of the fanbase criticizing the committee. now trying to be like the others is taking the identity out of the sport, 8 teams is all you need.

@@PhantomPhaze I would love for the sport to be deeper and for there to be more schools, more fan bases, and more geographic regions that can participate in the college football game at the highest level. I think it would be a healthier sport with 5 major conferences. But, that’s not where the game is going in the 21st century, and the bottom line is that a relatively small subset of schools will be able to afford to sponsor football at the highest level and be competitive.
The consolidation that’s occurring is the product of rational actors out to position themselves to not get left behind. This is what you get with a ten figure sport. The money changed everything. The players are barely at the beginning of getting their fair share. Accordingly, I expect a smaller top division and an FCS that more closely resembles what we used to think of as traditional college football. I am an alumnus of schools in the B1G, SEC, and FCS. I think I can relate from multiple perspectives. I was also a D1 athlete, but not in football.

They will still put in a 10-2, Alabama, Georgia, ohio, Penn St, even without a conference title. Because they “played strong” to end the season. My man, with only a 12 game regular season and over 130+ FBS teams going after 1 championship is nearly impassable. And that's in an idealistic, fairytale world where all 10 conferences were equal. The Big12 & ACC aren't equivalent to the P2. The G5 is closer to the FCS than the P2, the G5 needed their own playoff while ago. Don't believe me, how about this...
If you take out the G5 teams that made the jumped to the P5 (now P4) from the 2023 NFL draft, you'll have Individual teams that produce for drafted players than entire G5 conference. The #1 G5 conference would have been the Sun Belt with 9 players drafted... Alabama had 10! The #2 G5 would have been the MAC with 7 players drafted... Georgia had 10! The #3 G5 would have been the MWC with 5 players drafters... LSU had 6! The #4 G5 would have been Conference USA with 3 players drafted, Florida had 6! The #5 G5 would have been the gutted AAC with 2 players drafted... Tennessee had 5! But I'm an SEC guy, the B1G with Michigan (9), Ohio St (6), Penn St (6), Maryland (5), & Perdue (5) would have been more than the entire G5 combined also! The ACC (32), Big12 (30), & Pac12 (27) all individually produced more than the entire G5 (26). There clearly needs to be another division in the FBS, and if you don't like that then the FCS has a formate that I think you'll like... try that out.

Heres a major error in your comment. Just because you get drafted doesnt mean you are good. Is Alabama a better team than Cal? Oh shoot by your account Mac Jones should have a better career than Aaron Rodgers. Thing is it doesnt actually work that way. Turns out college rankings are actually horrendous at finding successful QBs in the NFL.....
In fact the whole player evaluations in terms of 5 star is great for determining draft picks but is historically dogsh!t in determining players that will actually be good at playing in the NFL. Which means that all of your college evaluations really just show you likelihood of getting picked and arent a real good metric for determining the competitiveness of a particular player.
Your analysis completely forgets to take into account the insane disparity between viewership and money in the P5 vs G5 as well. Pucca Nukua from BYU (independent in 2022) actually had far better stats in his season leading up to the NFL draft. But JSN was a first round pick and Pucca was 5th. Wonder if Ohio State having a media deal with 4 times that of BYU had anything to do with that....
You give any of the Top 10 G5 teams the same budget as Alabama and see if they are able to put together a comparable team.

    • @tremoore61
      @tremoore61 3 месяца назад

@MattBuild4 so your retort is comparing quarterbacks? And power 5 quarterbacks at that! The MOST hit and miss position in the NFL! And if you don't want to go off draft picks, do you want to go by current NFL players in the league compared to the G5? Cream rises to the top, Pucci was still discovered by the NFL and was selected in the draft. There are players who don't get recognized due to low media coverage. I've been pushing for the G5 to have their own playoffs to shine a brighter light them. But they don't seem to want that. The bottom line is... there's too many teams, not enough games, not the same level of play.
You say give the top 10 G5 teams a similar budget and see how they do. I say, how did Alabama get that budget? They got that budget because they cared and invested their money in college football back when it wasn't popular... just for the love of the game back in the mid 1900's. They expanded their stadium in 1937, 1946, 1961, 1966, 1988, 1998, 2006, & 2010. When did football start making BIG money? So you want gift 10 G5 teams with the same budget that hasn't been earned? What type of fantasy is this? Tulane was in the SEC once upon a time... they would be one of the top 10 G5 teams you want this done to. So now that football is a big money business, they should build it up like everybody else had to... brick by brick!

Division title games need to be done away with. Why do we need to have the top two teams play if we already know who the division winner is when the regular season ends? It's ridiculous to even play a conference title game. With the new expanded playoff teams are potentially playing more games. So eliminate the unnecessary conference championship games altogether. We don't need them! The regular season already determines the winner and it will eliminate one more game so the teams don't have to play as many games. It will also take away any chance of 2 teams having to possibly playing one another 3 times in a season.

    The madness of:
Auto-bid gifted to a G5 team who faced a drastically easier path than the ACC and Big 12 champs, who *themselves* faced far easier paths than the Big10 and SEC champs. We're gonna have the G5 champ enter the playoff as a 21+ point dog to basically any of the other 12 teams. We're likely to have some Big12 or ACC teams borderline sleepwalk to spots relative to what the SEC and Big10 have to deal with.
There is a Power 2, Mid 2, and G5. It's time to properly divide the sport and give the G5 its own little playoff.
Do people really want to watch Liberty vs Oregon every year, while better and more deserving teams have to sit at home because they faced an absurd SoS?

Meanwhile the MWC consistently schedules tough OOC (last year they literally scheduled 3/4 of the teams that made the playoffs + 7 more ranked teams). They do the same thing 2024, except in addition to playing at Oregon, at Michigan, at Iowa, at USC they also have 2 more OOC games with Oregon State and Washington State AND play their conference schedule (of which 50% won 8+ games last year). You think GT, Virginia, Duke, Wake Forest are consistently better than Air Force, Fresno State, Boise State, San Diego State, and Wyoming? History doesnt show that.....

And yet that team got ranked on SOS as if playing 7 Top 25 teams, including 5 road Top 25 teams, and 4 Top 10 teams was normal for the P5......
In all reality TCU, Utah and BYU played harder competition on a more consistent basis in the G5 than theyve played since going to the P5.
Ive yet to see Utah play 5 Top 25 teams including 2 Top 10 teams once in the PAC, and they probably arent going to get that in the B12 either. But that was their schedule in the MWC in 08.
