I serve this guy fish and chips on a weekly basis in Edinburgh and have done for about 12 years. He's one of my favourite customers and is consistently polite and will take the time out of his day to tell a couple of jokes to cheer me up if I'm having a shitty day. Lovely dude.
that's absolutely lovely, I live in Edinburgh is it a good chippie?
He is getting fat, maybe he should go vegan. Do you think it is polite to look so bad groomed?
Chips are vegan.
@@Nullllus He is surely not coming for the chips.
@@ingevonschneider5100 he got fat when he gave up smoking, he lost all the weight and looks great now
'I'm 100% Irish'
To an Irishman. I noticed the restrain on Dylan's face.
I think every non-American noticed that
he is gentically 100% irish
He's Genetically/Biologically Irish. His ancestors were from Ireland who moved to America.
@@HereGoesKevin I get that, but the habit of Americans claiming to be Irish, Scottish, African, Italian et al is simply annoying. Especially if they've never been to that place.
They’re referring to their ethnicity, obviously not their nationality.
Why is this so hard for people to understand?!
Listening to Conan tell Dylan Moran tell him how Irish he is and I can only see Moran trying to decide if he should use his "when Americans tell you they're Irish" material. :-)
Neil Carleton Oh, he’s not really considering it. He’s just making the face of a man who can already hear you writing that comment.
"My grandma is Irish, do you know her?""Yeah, I do, but then again, every body does."
Plastic Irish = Conan and his gang
my grandma's maiden is Flannery
Not applicable to Conan though, he is truly 100% Irish genetically, and is aware of even the most obscure Ireland’s customs and traditions.
Dylan Moran's tactful restraint via changing focus - when American Conan says hes 100% Irish, portraying himself as the exact character from one of the bits Dylan does in his special.
Good spot!
My grandmaaaaa was O’flaaaherty, didja know her??
@@dannycasserly697 "Yes, Yes I did. But then again _everybody_ did."

"I'd be the result if James Dean had lived, discovered carbohydrates, and orthopedic shoes." Dylan Moran - one of the best lines ever.
Dylan Moran is one of the greatest comedians of all time. Fast and quick with relevant and hard hitting no holds bar jokes. These bits I've seen on Conan....he's still got it. I would LOVE to see a new stand up special from him
I never knew Conan had Irish ancestry, because he never mentions it ever. Edit (sarcasm for the slightly slower minded amongst us)
Sniffmybadger: He mentions it almost every show...maybe you should watch his show more often.
@@stranraerwal maybe you should look up the definition of facetious more often
Yeah I know right and you'd never guess from his appearence either! I thought he was from Puerto Rico.

As an Irish person this is so accurate
What being Irish is all about.
Letra de Medianoche
Sad but very true in Ireland. They should have a nice reason to live, that would help i think.
@Christy Dolan You don't think he's 100% on the "yeah we hate successful people" thing?
And being an Irishman of 40+ years, I think I'm amply qualified to comment.
In other videos, Dylan assails Americans who claim they are "Irish," but he politely gave Conan a pass here.
I reckon conan's people told him not to say anything before.
I think Conan's comment about being dangerously inbred helped.
Of course gets a pass Hes 100 percent Irish
I actually think that Conan's point of being 100% Irish despite his ancestors being her for 160 years is extremely poignant in American culture. He's not saying it for no reason. He's saying it to explain American culture and Irish ancestry and culture in America. The history of Irish in America is actually very interesting and very important to the United States. I'm getting tired of Europeans saying that Americans aren't associated with their ancestry. You can't possibly imagine what our ancestry means to Americans.
@@Sunshine-zm1fx I wonder why some Europeans are so bitter at the mention of it. I get that Americans are not globally popular these days and understand why. Maybe it stems from that..

Dylan Moran is so honest, but also knows people so well. He never did stuff that he didn't believe in, always honest!! What a great guy!
He seems like a genuinely sweet person.
From what I've seen, the US cheers and whoops *everything* (they're even told too when it's the live studio audience of a TV show), whereas in Britain, we just find that annoying and disingenuous and laugh and cheer what we actually find entertaining. It's not that it's harder to impress UK audiences, we're just honest about what we're actually enjoying.
"He must know somebody with staples" 😂😂
Sumedh Habbu right after mentioning Trump’s hair, that line really tickled me 😂

Good thing the Internet exists! Don't let your dreams be dreams.
Want to set the mood, watch some episodes of Black Books with a glass of red wine. You’ll thank me.
It's probably the thing we actual Irish hate the most about Americans. And yes Dylan's expression as he decides how to react is great.
Dylan Moran is the best Irish Stand Up currently working
EOIN MURPHY Tommy Tiernan ain't bad either!
David O'Doherty, Tommy Teirnan and Dara O'Brien would prob disagree
jim eoin is better than all those guys at the moment imo.
Dylan is great but Tommy tiernan is number one for me, Jason byrne is great live but doesn't really do well in TV appearances and interviews.
he recycles a lot of his material. but its his and its still funny nonetheless
I met this guy doing my very first stand-up gig at a comedy club in Edinburgh back in 2016 - lovely guy and a comedy genius, glad to see him on Conan!
It's always weird to me hearing Americans talk about how they are Irish/German/English etc. Like, no... unless you've got dual citizenship, you're American. Ethnicity is not nationality.
Who said it had anything to do with nationality lol
Yes but ethnicity matters more than nationality
@@charlesottowilliamwade5328 not always. As someone who was born in Britain, speaks only English, has parents that were born in Britain and grandparents that migrated to Britain from countries that weren't even where my family was originally from - not to mention I've never visited the country I originate from - I feel a strong connectiong to Britain and British culture and next to nothing for the country I originate from. I know many people will say your "roots" are important but at the end of the day it matter more where you live now than where your ancestors lived generations ago. Life moves on.
He's legitimately 100% Irish Genetically. His ancestors were pure Irish who moved into the U.S.
@@HereGoesKevin What is 'pure Irish'? No one's pure anything - we're all mongrels - and Ireland's had plenty of other races passing through and dropping their genes there. Look, the bloke's from America. His family have been American for almost 200 years. He was raised in America, schooled there, lived there and works there. What connection does he have with Ireland except that someone in his family got on a boat from there in the 19th century? Plastic Paddy who will use his name as justification to get pissed on St Patrick's Day. Just be an American and have done with it. Stop trying to be exotic or they'll be saying 'I'm Irish' in a thousand years time. And people will still be laughing at them.
"That is the second most disgusting thing I've had in my mouth" lol he's a legend.
when was that bit? I listened twice and didn't spot it.
Mike Campbell It's a line he says from the movie Run FatBoy Run
Americans love to talk about ancestry like astrology. “Oh my grand-grand-grandparents were from this country so that means my personality is like this”
@B Babbich your proving marcus’s point
@B Babbich no it’s just cringey
@B Babbich both irrelevant to OP comment.
"I'm 100% Irish" -- Conan should watch the US immigration video by Foil, Arms and Hog :)
If you've been in USA 160 years you're not Irish Conan. You're American.
We're all a product of the crown
I'm British and have seen his stand-up twice. He is brilliant, and Black Books is all sorts of awesome. Seen some American comedians over here too - there definitely is a difference from the American audiences than the British ones, we're a lot quieter (not saying either way is the correct way, we just are more reserved generally).
I can just imagine the moment a comedian expects a huge laugh to break out, you just hear the guy in the front row go "hoh, jolly amusing tha"
My mate got him into Black Books and I would highly recommend it to any who haven’t seen it

Dylan is trying not to say whatever he really thinks. You’re *?!& American.
Conan did an ancestry test and it showed he's 100% Irish. Which is unheard of cause even the people born and bred in ireland aren't 100% Irish. He did an entire funny segment you can see on here 😂 but yeah he's clearly raised American and knows nothing of Irish culture and personality.

“I’m 100% Irish” said in an american accent with a serious face
ethnicity is different than nationality.
Cringeworthy isn't it? You don't get that I the UK. People are just from the country they're from. Otherwise we'd all be claiming to be Vikings, celts, Romans, norms or Germanic. Or we could take it further than that and have some ginger dude in Glasgow saying he's African, seeing as all humans can trace their ancestors to Africa.
Jesus Christ A once had an American tourist in Edinburgh tell me he was 1/5 Scottish. A was like ok cheers pal
I read that in Kevin Bridges voice. I liked it.
Did you listen to the full sentence (or two)? Cuz he said something to the effect of: we've lived here for centuries, but all 100% Irish marrying 100% Irish... that kind of does make sense.
Have him back on. More Dylan! ❤
I adore Dylan Moran. Black Books is one of the best TV comedies ever made and his Monster and Like Totally stand-ups are brilliant shows. He doesn't click with most Americans I guess, but if you have some anglophilia in you he's fantastic!
Mathew Clark His stand up is some of the best stand up ever! Black books was brilliant but its brilliance was owed to Dylan and his co stars Bill Bailey and co....his bit part roles in film are also proof of his comedic brilliance
I'm neither British nor American, but I loved his stand-up (or that tiny bit that I just saw on youtube :-)) ). I think he's hilarious.
I love Black Books so much! Such a smart show which we lack here in America imo.
I'm not used to him sounding sober.
"And they become Americans! The kind of people who come up to you in the street and go: 'You know, I'm Irish! My great-grandmother was from Kilclaridy didya know her?'
And I always go: 'Yes, yes... But then again everybody did.'"
The best US interview I've seen of Dylan Moran.
One of the best I’ve seen as well. He doesn’t look like he’s hating it. 😅❤
Dylan Moran is amazing. And hilarious.
GET AWAY FROM THAT DOOR THIS INSTANT! DAVID!
Ah i love him especially in black books. "Dirty." "AH Who are you?!" "Im the cleaner." My fav ep
Conan should go to Ireland with Dylan Moran!
No. He should stay in the US.
Moran has a wonderful gift with words, which many comedians don't. He expects you to reach up to his level rather than talking in words of one syllable for the mouth breathers at the back, which is where US TV frankly ploughs its furrow.
"He must know *somebody* with staples." That's not a line you hear often. It made me genuinely laugh out loud.
Love his stand up
Wonderful, accurate insights

American man: "I'm 100% Irish"
" 100% Irish.."... your great, great grandfather, twice removed....
You can tell Dylan is thinking plastic paddy 😂
He is very quick with wit. Still handsome too.
We Americans have a long history of identifying with the lands of our ancestors and saying, "I'm Irish," "I'm Italian" etc. Europeans think it's dumb and nonsensical, but hey, just think of it as an interesting cultural difference.
wemartin12 People from Ireland, UK or the rest of Europe for that matter, we kinda just roll our eyes when an American says he’s 1/4 or 1/5 of something, if you’re parents and grandparents are American then you’re American, we see it as being a Culture vulture.
He has the best laugh !😂😂
God bless you Conan
I am one generation removed from Ireland and called a plastic Paddy I don't know what the hell that makes him lol.
A Spandex Paddy? Conan is really stretching it.
The fact I had to turn on captions turn to understand his irish accent😂
Love Dylan Moran.

Given one of his stand ups talking about American sentiment, he was extremely reserved in his definition of Americans compared to other people. :)
Irish-American and I could have saved a lot of $ on therapy if I’d heard these two encapsulate it as “shame, blame, vengefulness, and bitterness” before I got out of my teens.
I love Dylan Moran
He is so right about that people are tired of Trump jokes and all that
160 years in the US or 100% Irish. Pick one.
Tell that to all the people who live in "China Towns", and the like all across the country.
Ehtnicity vs nationality. America doesn't have an old culture with its traditions and principals like in the UK. Everybody kind of does their own thing. It's a blessing and a curse.
Pardon Me ...Ok...But what does the UK have to do with Ireland?
Yes please, tell me about all the "Irish Towns" you hear about where they only interact amongst themselves like in some China Towns. I'm not arguing for the Chinese, I'm talking about Irish. Learn what a "Strawman argument" is and then come on back.
Should we write it down for you? His family have only married other Irish people. A m e r I c a n s h a v e m a n y d I f f e r e n t e t h n i c I t I e s.
Dylan Moran and Conan go to Ireland PLEASE MAKE THAAAATTT!!!!!!!!
NO. PLEASE
Conan's vengeance is to make us laugh ourselves to death. The truth is clear to me now.
Brilliant.
Conan should have Dylan Moran on his podcast
Michael d Higgins you just want to pick him up take him walks and feed him crisps. That was my first impression when I seen him lol
I think the main difference between the two is, America only understands its own subtlety, and they are often too literal. That means not understanding other people's subtle joke, they will take it literal, therefore not understanding.
This interview was an example of that.
When Dylan said, "They drop this macro-net of feelings all over you and say 'tat's how I am, see if you can stand up now'". Conan then laughs and says, "Sounds awful"!
When you have to stop and think about a joke, deciphering it's meaning, you haven't got it.
I might be Norwegian, but I have a feeling my early ancestors were kidnapped from Ireland as I am only truly happy if something has gone badly wrong(I told you it would go wrong didnt I???). Even better if it has only gone slightly bad for me, but more badly for someone I despise. Also my grudges have gotten to big to carry on my back, so now I rent a truck for them as I refuse to let any of them go.
Rustknuckle Irongut 😂😂 ☘😈
