Him having the earth mode chest wasn’t an animation error, it was intentional. They didn’t have the budget to produce a whole other robot mode design for him, especially since they weren’t gonna make a toy out of it back then.
I’m not a fan of of seeing Earth mode kibble in Cybertronian forms before they get their Earth mode. But yes I know the real world reason is that they didn’t want to design a new character model that will only be shown for a few seconds. Yet they did so many times throughout the series for generic background characters. Also, Starscream was in his Earth mode jet form when he and Skyfire visited Earth long before they left Cybertron.
@@Martynde they had security of a full series when designing extra bots, the pilot was not completely secure for them to design every autobot in a robot mode that didn't resemble the toys they would become.
He's a cool figure (despite his flaws), shame that he was regulated to being an exclusive, like what happened with Legacy Override and Cosmos, which is a shame since both Origin Jazz, Cosmos and Override were newly tooled figures.
I have had no problem finding Overrides, they seem to be fairly common to see. And I imagine distribution for this will be similar to Origin Bee, which was also easy to find.
This figure looks awesome! One of my dreams as a kid come true... Very much like the Siege line, since the first time I saw Transformers back in the 80s, my dream was to have Cybertronian modes toys, and here we are, almost 40 years later, Hasbro is making that dream a reality... This figure is a must for me!
I will pick him up as soon as I lay my eyes upon him. Despite the transparent plastic bit, it is a really nice looking figure. We do need a Wheeljack now. The disappointment of not getting one would linger for years.
Funny thing is, this being his cybertronian form, clear windows weren't really necessary so they could have skipped the clear plastic part. He also looks like a vehicle James Bond would be proud to drive.
I think *maybe* the odd hand peg design is to prevent suction. With the figures with big blocky hands, such as Bulkhead, I’ve had issues with the weapons being sorta vacuumed into the hands.
Wanna bet cybertronian tetrajets that leave Siege Starscream in the dust are coming too, with a dozen repaints? Also, origins Dinobots based on their DW vehicle modes would be awesome
This is a fun looking figure! Will be great for those that missed out on the SS version. The silhouette actually looks better here than there, but that's only because he has a fake chest and the SS one uses the car parts throughout the robot.
Idk, I feel like it'd be too difficult even at Voyager, to make a Wheeljack that looks perfect in alt mode, as good as the others in robot mode, and be hollow in alt mode, and fit the wide Origins Bee, and there's also all the other new CHUG criteria like good proportions, good paint, less kibble, lots of joints for articulation..... Maybe at Leader it could work but idk, I'd rather just have a good Origins Wheeljack as good as the other two, and doesn't open, than a possibly really compromised one
As annoying as that transparent plastic joint is, the way that Autobot insignia flips into place as you move it back is SO FUCKIN' COOL!!! Brings me back to the good ol' days of abundant automorphing...
As a child of the before times (pre-internet), the idea of putting something with the verbiage 'Transformers Legacy Evolution Buzzworthy Bumblebee Deluxe Class Origin Autobot Jazz' on a Christmas present list for my parents is quite funny.
Transformers Generations Netflix War For Cybertron Trilogy Part 2: Earthrise Voyager Class Decepticon Soundwave Battle 3-Pack with Micromasters Decepticon Ravage and Decepticon Laserbeak 💀💀💀
Everybody is missing out on the triangle seekers. That's what they need to give us a flawless transformation though no gaps no weird triangles an actual triangle
I'll get this guy. I have always preferred the Cybertronian modes to the Earth modes. Back in '84 when Transformers first hit the figures I wanted the most were Skywarp, Thundercracker, Starscream & Wheeljack in their Cybertronian modes. And when the '86 movie hit the figure I wanted most was Arcee. I had to wait forever to finally get them.
Yeah...an Origin Wheeljack would probably need a Voyager's budget & parts count to make the vehicle mode work (he's literally a van), the robot mode still somewhat resemble the Earthrise/Netflix/Kingdom figure (considerable panel folding), and the transformation not suck. Hopefully the nearest Target gets this in soon...
Fantastic review PrimeVsPrime!!! I really hope we get Origins Wheeljack, since he is the last of only seven Transformers G1 characters who were shown transforming into both Cybertron and Earth alt modes, the others are Thundercracker, Skywarp, Soundwave, Laserbeak, Bumblebee, and of course Jazz. :D Keep on being amazing.
Both Hasbro and Takara love to use clear plastic/tabs, but it's Takara who uses them more than Hasbro (when Takara retools any of Hasbro's molds, they'll usually always mold it in clear plastic).
I think the keyhole carve out is meant to reduce pressure on the entire hand, reducing the rigidity. If not, it could also be a feature to stabilize an accessory that will be made available later, possibly to all of the toyline. My guess.
Thanks for this review! This guy is really awesome. Can't wait to pick him up. It REALLY sucks that we all have to go to Target and just pray we can pick him up one day, or else get extorted on eBay. I wish Hasbro wouldn't do this crap to us. It really ruins most of the goodwill they get from finally putting out such highly sought after figure. Oh well. Good luck, everyone! :)
Great review. I've been looking forward to Cybertronian Jazz since the release of origins Bumblebee. He does not disappoint! I hope Hasbro will consider giving fans a War Within Jazz at a larger scale and with more advanced engineering.
Decades of wild imaginings finally manifest in your hands! Great review and transformation (& reverse-transformation), my good bro! Pity about that transparent canopy, the bane of many a TF toy cursed with a short lifespan. It's almost placed there as if to (eventually) 'shatter' the dream that took a long time coming... Stay awesome 👌 👏 👍
Not all transparent plastic is brittle, like my TFP RID Voyager Prime has clear arms and still hasn't broken It's just that in ER/Kingdom it's had a bad track record recently I'm really hoping Jazz's transparent plastic is the more durable type like older figures
He has the same flip hands as Inferno and I noticed Pointblanks Targetmaster partner has a peg at the back that could be used to fit in those ports… maybe we’ll see a Ricochet/Stepper with this mold?
This was certainly a treat to see pop up today! I've been dying to see and compare the engineering between the hasbro offering and the one I designed a while back. Nearly a perfect figure but I couldn't get past the arms and robot chest sticking so far out in vehicle mode, felt a bit rushed. Still a great figure for a mainline release. I'll be waiting for their wheeljack to once again compare against mine. I'm sure PVP will be the place to land him first!
I pre ordered this guy the other day, him and Bee (hopefully Wheeljack at some point) are some of the very few figures that I’ll be displaying in their alt modes.
The single piece of translucent plastic is absolutely a cost cutting measure. There's no size limitation keeping them from casting it in multiple pieces, they're just cheap. This has been an issue as far back as 2011 or so when they started to simplify figures because "they were too complicated for young children", while also upping the retail prices "due to rising oil costs". Then the Prime Wars trilogy line happened and they doubled down on both simplifying figures further AND upping costs, even though oil prices had gone down. After three full lines, people finally called them out on the overly simplistic figures with outdated engineering and some of the cheapest plastic we've ever seen and they started to up their game with WFC as far as engineering went but still couldn't resist the urge to scrimp and save on every figure. It's why we see so many more hollowed out single-cast parts compared to the old CHUGs, as well as a lot of painted solid color plastic windows and large translucent plastic pieces painted solid colors. Hasbro is cheap. Figures like Blitzwing where they try to cover everything and make the figures actually look solid are the exception but I so wish they were the rule. It's why so many CHUG figures are still held in such a high regard despite many being somewhat outdated. They just felt so much more solid and complete compared to modern TF figures.
I really would like to see a Cybertron Starscream in the future, or even a Legacy Evolution Goldfire. And the Cybertron Origins Jazz looks like a dodgem
We think Origin Jazz is sooo awesomely good, we would love to add him to our collection, but I doubt we will be able to source him (as with a few others from last year, eg Crasher and Shadowstrip), so will have to do without him. having gotten my hands on Jazz myself today, I have to say I'm not a fan of the slight clearance issue the doors have when folding in and out of the legs. just one more millimeter is needed to not flex that connection and I've had the door panels pop off because of that.

I just realised that the hood of Wheeljack's Cybertronian vehicle mode looks much like Rumble & Frenzy's chest. As for Jazz here, I think he looks very accurate in his robot mode. I wouldn't complain but hey... :) At the same time I can't help but notice that the transformation is really fiddly and doesn't click well in place which appears to be common to many modern day Transformers toys.
