    I hate that "He had a lot of help" argument. Duncan's first championsship, his second year in the League mind you, he carried the Spurs on his back. He was surrounded by good role players, but he didn't have Tony Parker nor Ginobli at the time. And Robinson, who people kept bringing up when talking about Duncan's first championship, wasn't the player he was when Tim got into the league. He was at the end of his career and was already suffering from the consequences of his past injury. So no, Duncan didn't have a "lot of help". He was just great at what he does.

      Spurs were a contending 59 win team then david robinson and elliot got injured the next year and they were lucky to win the 1st pick. He wasnt drafted by a bad team at all. No robinson didnt put up huge stats anymore but he was still one of the best centers in the league. And the team was great all around, elliot, elie, avery johnson, jared jackson, steve kerr, all great role players with poppovich as coach. The spurs always emphasized defense and good unselfish ball movement. Yeah what timmy did was legendary but youre underrating how lucky he was to go to the spurs.

      Pop IS the GOAT. He was the one who drafted Tim, made him the star player, and built a system around him. And the system kept working even after Tim played 25 minutes a night at 37-38 yrs old.

      As much as I like Duncan. He still kept making the playoffs after he retired. Did with Kawhi. Then did it with Derozan and a bunch of role players. After that, they went on a stretch of not making the playoffs because other teams got better and San Antonio was devoid of talent.

    Don’t you young folks believe Tracy McGrady, Tim Duncan was the MVP in 2003 and more than earned it. And YES, he absolutely carried a young Parker & Ginobli. I’m so glad Shaq checked that bulls*** McGrady was sayin.

    Tim didn’t have the same level of help as other greats. Kobe and Shaq had each other, Lebron had Wade, Warriors were loaded with Curry, Klay and Durant. The best teammate he had was Robinson beyond his prime.

  • @beegee1960
    @beegee1960 Год назад +1

    Oh come on, what is it with always trying to diminish Tim’s accomplishments by talking about his help. Name one player who won a championship without a lot of help. Yes, Tim had a lot of help AFTER 2003. In 2003 he had David Robinson, a great player, but by this time he was seriously suffering from acute back problems.
    Tony and Manu were far from the stars they were to become later. Both already showed flashes of what they were capable of becoming, but they were not there yet. Tony was a second year teenagerManu was an undisciplined rookie. In addition, Tim had a bunch of veterans who could still play and contribute, but not to their previous level. That year Tim shouldered most of the load.
    And stop and think about it. Did Tim win because he played with Manu and Tony. or did Manu and Tony become great players because they played with Tim Duncan?

    • @strategicsage7694
      @strategicsage7694 Год назад +1

      Both are true. It's not either-or. No great player has ever won a championship on their own, and no team has ever won a championship without great players.
