Great conversation! As someone who plays the guard & (oddly, the wing like JJ & Reggie Miller did), I completely got all the references here. I think CP and John Stockton don't get enough credit; and AI doesn't get enough credit for his impact on defense (of course bigger guards like MJ and Kobe get all the credit but AI was in those gaps; something Trae can definitely improve on. He's not going to grow any taller but he can definitely get in those gaps and create transition offense). Nash was great but today he'd be more like a Fred Van Vleet, they basically do the same thing. Nash was just slightly ahead of his time. I really like this episode for guards. Bigs are probably not going to get much out of this, other than, run the breaks and show early. If you're a guard though, you have to understand the origin of these plays. Also, when JJ talks about him shooting over his left shoulder, you have to know what that is. For me, I love shooting over my right; because I can go over/under, draw a foul, step back, or just shoot fading away (like Klay does. LeBron occasionally too). Shooting over my left always feels uncomfortable because a good defender can just jump ahead. Going over my right though, that's crazy. I can just pick apart the defender off the dribble. I do agree with JJ though on the threes. 30 feet and in, I'm super comfortable. Past that though, that's like Steph, Dame, and Trae. I don't think anybody else is even close. Great convo, keep it coming. I really like this pod. Great for basketball fans like myself; and probably you guys too. This is the stuff kids need to know because, they need to watch Tony Parker, Gary Payton, John Stockton, Chris Paul, Steve Nash, Fred Van Vleet, AI, J. Kidd, Steph, and Chauncey; those guys are going to give you everything you need to be elite (watch JJ, Reggie, and Klay too, if you're a sniper). [Sorry, Trae, you have to pick your moments. That's what you need to improve on. In the Playoffs, you were too patient. You can't be patient in the Playoffs; look at Ja]

I love the points he made about comparison and recency bias amongst fans. Some people I’ve argued with can’t see past how a player previously performed and completely reject how a player currently shows up. That’s why many people have been incorrect about teams like the Miami heat, Boston and Dallas etc. recently. Many fans didn’t see these teams getting past the first rounds of playoffs but here we are 🤷🏾♀️
came back to rewatch this episode… “i want to lower my turnovers but it’s hard bc i have the ball so much” excited to see the performance of trae this coming season to see how the addition of Murray betters him
JJ is a beast to ask about his shooting method he's a student of the game and JJ's jumper stayed wet so for him to observe compliment and inquire about the mechanics is awesome
talented, humble, and the closest thing to curry you will ever see again in your life not even just the 3 it's his enthusiasm and heart never backing down even as the smaller opponent in most situations
I was really hoping Trae was going to say as his offseason improvements: learning to move off the ball to create looks for others and himself with his gravity (similar to JJ and Steph-- The man probably took 30 shots off screen the whole season), and defensively not arguing with official every missed call so that he gets switched onto a big in transition --> a switchback miscommunication and an open three. The Young man is on a all-time trajectory, keep improving youngblood!
Man I love these podcast. JJ and Tommy and fans, would it be beneficial for any of us if JJ and Tommy did a behind the scenes look at the prep that goes into putting together an episode?
As fans of an opposing team, it’s dangerously easy to manifest character flaws in order to vilify certain players. This podcast reveals that not only are NBA players, by and large, great athletes but they are also outstanding humans.
When I learned to shoot, I was small and didn't have enough strength to shoot from distance unless I used my legs and shot on the way up. When I hit my growth spurt, that technique was enhanced and I could shoot from way deeper. I agree with Trae about his forearms being the key. I squeezed tennis balls lol
He certainly should come on. I'd love to hear his thoughts about pop, and also about playing with DeRozan and his leadership with the Spurs. Also about his career obviously
trae gets the NBA is entertainment. It needs heroes and villains for the dynamic to work. He embraces what it means to be the road/away team villain for the entertainment of the home crowd.
I think with Draymond getting all the hate and negative attention he has in these playoffs he’s a must to get back on the pod asap once the season ends. I know he was on rather recently but people really don’t appreciate his impact on the basketball court and his level of basketball intellect

JJ's everywhere these days. I expect to be watching my local news and JJ will be doing the weather.
As a hoop junkie in the Philippines, I love this podcast and format. It’s so refreshing, informative and entertaining. Keep it up
I love the points he made about comparison and recency bias amongst fans. Some people I’ve argued with can’t see past how a player previously performed and completely reject how a player currently shows up. That’s why many people have been incorrect about teams like the Miami heat, Boston and Dallas etc. recently. Many fans didn’t see these teams getting past the first rounds of playoffs but here we are 🤷🏾♀️
I love these interviews shoutout to The Old Man & the Three 👏🏾
came back to rewatch this episode… “i want to lower my turnovers but it’s hard bc i have the ball so much” excited to see the performance of trae this coming season to see how the addition of Murray betters him
I am all in for this listen. Ice Trae!
great pod yall, i love when JJ drills down into shooting the long ball
Big respect for your work Trae (and JJ!)
Another great podcast, thanks JJ & team! it didn't feel like 55 minutes..
Keep up the good work JJ. Love these interviews and seeing these in depth discussions on basketball and life.
This podcast gets better every episode. Great job to everyone involved.
We want clips for the plays you talk about with players
Seconded
Trae is really special I hope he can get a ring for the Hawks they have been my favorite team since I was a kid
Great episode! Love how deep JJ goes through mentality.
Trae Young MVP next season.
Yes sir
Nah
@@TivoKenevil yes sir
When you speak on flashbacks you should show the video it’s pertaining too. My only complaint. Great guests as well, keep it coming guys.
My 1 year old sons first jersey was a red Atlanta trae jersey 🔥
Loved this one best one yet. I really like the in person
Yes yes and yes! I was hoping he said those things too!!
Getting to watch him play at OU was so fun I haven't been to that many games since You could tell right away he was gonna make an impact in the league
Another incredible podcast today JJ and Tommy, keep up the work fellas
I love JJ's reaction after Trae saying he averaged 42 in high school. He's like "yeah that's about right" me too
As a French hearing Trae on how he looks at TP floater is so cool
Whether you like his game or not, Trae seems like a good dude.
So glad we got Trae 💯🔥
Please do more in person podcast! I know scheduling is hard but they are so much better in person
When I learned to shoot, I was small and didn't have enough strength to shoot from distance unless I used my legs and shot on the way up. When I hit my growth spurt, that technique was enhanced and I could shoot from way deeper. I agree with Trae about his forearms being the key. I squeezed tennis balls lol
cannot wait for JJs bussin with the boys episode to drop. that's gunna be amazing!
also.. who doesnt love trae young? great interview
shoutout to trae's speech therapist
This is hands down my new favorite podcast
I've never been good at shooting but I love the shooting talk at the end. pls keep askin that
Been looooving your content. San Antonian here, any chance y'all will do a chat with first time All-star Dejounte Murray?
Cheers
He certainly should come on. I'd love to hear his thoughts about pop, and also about playing with DeRozan and his leadership with the Spurs. Also about his career obviously
my only suggestion would be to add clips along w what they're talking about :) great pod tho
They def can’t NBA copyright son but that would be dope
This channel is a godsend! 🙏🏾
trae gets the NBA is entertainment. It needs heroes and villains for the dynamic to work. He embraces what it means to be the road/away team villain for the entertainment of the home crowd.
dropping at 7am is lowkey crazy😂
6am where I’m at 💀
Trey is different, I was at the play in game against the Cavs. One of the best performances I’ve seen live.
One new podcast another one i’m watching. Love this content nonstop
I think with Draymond getting all the hate and negative attention he has in these playoffs he’s a must to get back on the pod asap once the season ends. I know he was on rather recently but people really don’t appreciate his impact on the basketball court and his level of basketball intellect
