With windows patience is required, but after everything I’ve delt with on Linux and other windows laptops, this setup wasn’t too bad. Gotta have realistic expectations, the more features you fine tune, the more you’ll be able to do with your Ally.

I love my Ally. Im a console gamer and this is perfect for me. I dont play pc games really anymore so im used to seeing 30-60fps on my series X depending on the game and as far as im concerned every game ive played on my ally looks just as good or better than my series X pretty regularly
Agreed. I’m primarily a PS5 gamer, I bought the Ally for portability and also for Steam games and especially for game pass. Microsoft is buying its way to triple A glory and the Ally as well as my AOKZOE A1 PRO will be handling that. So far the visuals on this thing are on par with the visuals on these consoles and that is due to the relatively small clear screen.
If you can plug a keyboard in through the USB - C port in first time setup, I think you should still be able to do the Shift + F10 to open command prompt and do the OOBE\bypassnro command to skip the online setup and make an offline account without all of the junk. I get my Ally tomorrow and that's what I plan on doing. It's what I normally do with all of my computers when setting up or installing Windows. Unless a Microsoft account is required for the functionality of the device(it's not) I'd rather bypass it all together and just use a local account.

Its a powerhouse it literally play D4, Doom eternal, mass effect Le, wolfenstein new order, amnsesia the bunker 1080p native med/high settings 60fps. These are the games im currently playing. Doom eternal play max settings wirhout RT. Mind boggling performance but use alot of power. I play in 25w mode with pd3.0 usb c 65w output 30k mah powerbank. Its leagues above SD. Super happy gonna keep mine for sure. The dolby atmos speakers are superb and the screen! Very easy to use no hustle, once everything is updated the performance is unbelievable.
I have a nintendo switch, I game on the go, and I recently bought an Asus ROG ally. One thing I love about Asus ROG Ally, as someone who loves portable gaming, is the fact it has the same charger as my Switch. I essentially need to fewer, and the fact that this console replaces me bringing laptop everywhere, it is convenient.
The first thing I did when I got mjne was set it up and did all updates after that so far everything is smooth I also did custom fan curve and my degrees is always 70 or below never over at first with the first custom fan it stayed around 70 to 67 but I tampered with it alot to really see what I could do and got it into 50 and like 63 most of the time
It's only a matter of time before Linux runs perfectly on that machine, and anyone who doesn't care about the xbox service, might find SteamOS to be a much more convenient solution.

@@RomesOTL I mean with the speakers going or even headphones you can crank the fans up to 100% no problem. But in my quiet room test the fan speed gets noticeable somewhere between 75-80% so I set the 60C-80C range at 75% and haven’t gone over 80C at 30W. But just it case it goes over I bump the fans up to 100% at the 90C range where it throttles
I returned mine. Zero regrets it was way too slow for me considering the hardware it has. I customized everything and did all the updates and this thing was so slow at processing anything. Happily returned it.
I think that most ppl dont understand that this is an 780m graphic card with a super overcloaked gpu. This is basically 2013 technology but made into a smaller factor now. From what i see, most likely we will see a very big leap in 5 years or more where they might catch up to something close to an GTX 1000+
I think I might get the Steam deck instead of the Ally no hate to the Ally at all it's awesome but when I close my eyes and envision myself with either of the two I imagine the Steam deck I know it's less powerful but something about the steam deck is just so appealing I just can't explain it
you cant go wrong either way, and if i had to choose to only keep one, id probably keep the steam deck. it just feels higher quality all around. buttons, joysticks feel better and steamOS is amazing. i feel like ill wear out the ally and buy a newer device and my steam deck will work until the end of time
Just remember the ally just was released and the steam deck has been out for awhile. If you can wait like a month or so because you’ll know with updates if the ally is going in a good direction or bad.
I had a steam deck and sold it so I could get an ally. The amount of incompatible mainstream games on the steam deck due to Linux steam OS is insane. I couldn't play majority of my normal go to games because of Linux and I was not going to buy windows11 just to fix valves incompatibilities . Ally fixed all of that and more. As much as windows 11 is unintuitive I'd still pick it over steam OS given its compatible with every game and steam OS incompatibilities are growing, not shrinking. Valve still has not gotten 3rd party anti cheat software to work and I doubt they ever will

Other than a few anticheat games. and some anticheat games have actually started working recently as well. I got mine yesterday... now I need a dock, and a memory card recommendation. Preferably something that is available world wide (never bought the Steam Deck as it's not available in Norway). The setup process was similar. Did not have as many apps, MyAsus did have some drivers that where not provided by Windows Update and Armory Crate. And I needed MyAsus to get the touch screen to work again after Windows Update failed.
Swap out the 512 SSD and get 2tb minimal. Easy Peezy. Just make sure to completely up date everything first. And I do mean completely. NOTE: do not upgrade from the 317 bios. I hear the 319 is garbage.

My device came with MYAsus preinstalled which had all the updates needed outside armory crate ready for install. Way faster than running updates directly through windows. I had only 1 security update to install for windows itself after the fact. The unfortunate side is that much of this is not drawn attention to for the user. Def not user friendly for anyone not familiar with PC. I even had to hook up a keyboard just to finish the windows first boot setup.

You can play anywhere.I cloud play and continue offline.No lagging or anything.The crate app has a Xbox cloud app and it has extra features the regular app don’t have.Better quality and offline

Question. All is "set up" for gaming. But why my shooting doesnt work while i sprint my account in counter strike example? Just when the character doesnt move it shoots, dafak? Moving is set up on the joystick on the right and shooting on the back button BT.
Quick question, I’m trying to play city skylines on My Rog ally. I downloaded the windows 10 version and the Steam version. The controls don’t work at all on the Steam version and they stop working randomly on the windows 10 version. I have no idea how to fix this.

PC tech companies always suck at software. And the fact that the ROG Ally can't beat the Steam Deck at 15W tells you all you need to know. They are a hardware company and they want to sell hardware, but consoles are more than just hardware.

MyAsus app literally allows you to update bios, chipset, various components, set battery charge limits, and more. It may not be “necessary”, but it sure as fuck makes it easier to keep the device up to date. L take, sir.
Why Is windows never able to create something intuitive and easy to use. This is the main reason why I don’t feel comfortable to buy handheld devices like this one, it’s beautiful, great performance, but it seems wayyyy to complicated to use and get games. I wish Sony would make a PlayStation portable, that would be amazing

You can also just login as ADMIN and type any random wrong password, then you will have the option to create a local account

Question. All is "set up" for gaming. But why my shooting doesnt work while i sprint my account in counter strike example? Just when the character doesnt move it shoots, dafak? Moving is set up on the joystick on the right and shooting on the back button BT.

Quick question, I’m trying to play city skylines on My Rog ally. I downloaded the windows 10 version and the Steam version. The controls don’t work at all on the Steam version and they stop working randomly on the windows 10 version. I have no idea how to fix this.

Appreciate it, but I'm still lost. Just got my Ally and going through the notorious bazillions of Windows updates. When I am finally ready to play, with all those settings within armory crate, I feel like a I am going to be very overwhelmed.
Somehow when I start certain Steamgames or LoL the controller doesn't work do I have to setup every game completely manually? 😅

I’m so tired of all these creators saying you’ll spend an hour spending time setting up the ALLY …. Then they forget to include the time you spend setting up Netflix and other stuff your actually going to want on your steam deck
PC tech companies always suck at software. And the fact that the ROG Ally can't beat the Steam Deck at 15W tells you all you need to know. They are a hardware company and they want to sell hardware, but consoles are more than just hardware.
Well it can now and u gitta think deck was a hot mess at launch also it had tome to polish rog ally needs time also the deck is amazing at 10 watts that damn valve with steam os I'm guessing bc it can really give companies room to optimize for it but above 10 watts now the ally performance better

MyAsus app literally allows you to update bios, chipset, various components, set battery charge limits, and more. It may not be “necessary”, but it sure as fuck makes it easier to keep the device up to date. L take, sir.
