Thanks - more to come soon - we’ve had a little rethink over where we want the channel to go and pleased to say more to come in 2021!

Totally agree-I only fit lewden rcbo consumer units now BUT Hagar are the best,I just can’t justify the price.
The cover fronts all hang that way and shut to contain any fire should it occur-if they were to be made like old consumer units and have hinges at the bottom people would leave them hanging down and/or they’d break off leaving a risk of possible fire spreading.

tommochelsea72 exactly my thoughts (Which id since confirmed) it’s good that the manufacturers are thinking of this though as you’ve rightly said people would leave the lid open completely compromising the reason we fit metal boards to start with.

Seen on Instagram you've been featuring fusebox boards, they look like great boards. Do you fit them over eris now?

I'm curious why an end user would be interested in getting a more premium CU, it seems most of the benefits of the more premium boards are for the installer rather than an end user that just needs to flip an MCB once in a blue moon?

Matthew Harrold completely understand this view point and to a certain extent it’s right.
All consumer units sold in UK/Europe meets minimum safety standards specified by the relative regulatory body/ies regulations requirements.
When choosing a consumer unit and it's configuration as an end user, your main focus and concern should be the safety, practicality and reliability offered.
Whilst the safety should always be there due to standards manufacturers must adhere to. And the practicability should be there with your configuration (eg. RCD vs full RCBO boards).
The reliability is not always - we’ve had many cheaper alternatives in the past that have had parts failing regularly - hence why we now only offer a range of three trusted brands.
An example where this would be an issue is where a RCD prematurely fails and a customer isn’t keeping up with their 6 monthly testing of the device (which many don’t) that RCD May sit there not offering the degree of protection in which it was installed for until either somebody receives a shock (not the way you want to find out your RCD isn’t working) or until you get your next periodic electrical test (which we all know everybody keeps up to date with).
The other reason is more premium brands have been around for longer and run less risk of having obsolete parts - couple that with the fact that regulations are now backing up manufacturers instructions regarding not “mix’n’matching” different manufacturers within boards your new consumer may need changing again due to obsolete part when it comes around to maintenance of a faulty part of an addition/modification to your installation. (This happens more often than you may think with budget brands)
It’s like everything in life there are budget and premium brands and both will do a job. Build quality coupled with the points I’ve raised above are information we give our clients, it’s then up to them to make an informed decision.
This is the reason we offer budget, middle of the road and a premium quality board - rather than one option because as you can see in the video there can be substantial material cost differences and offering all clients one option based on what you like to install wouldn’t be fair or taking in the individual clients needs/budget.
I agree the installer benefits in terms of better to work with are also there.
Hope this was of some help 👍🏻

@@stfelectricalltd6849 Thanks, that's very interesting. I did not consider the point about parts becoming obsolete, availability etc

Matthew Harrold it’s a common issue that bugs me with some electricians - they simply win a job based on a price they think they can get away with and then either maximise the profits by installing cheap equipment wherever they can, or they go the other way and install a pricey alternative purely based on what they like to install.
It’s all about educating the client in order for them to make an informed decision and then tailoring to their needs in my opinion.

Alvin Ashman cheers Alvin - I hadn’t until our wholesaler brought them in - from my understanding (from what the wholesaler has stated) they are from the same manufacturer that produces Chint, they manufacture mcbs in the millions and Eris is the cheaper name attached to them if that makes sense - somebody may correct me in the comments below I’m just going off what I am told.
They are on the cheap side there is no denying it, and we do try and sell our clients on the other two. However they do serve a purpose when needed and id personally say they are one of the best of the budget (always going to be flaws with budget though)

Use an earth magnet to keep the board cover up when labelling etc. Works a dream and means no more having to use the electricians third hand...your head to balance the board 😂
