Cheers for the update and walkthrough! Sorry to hear about the van break in. keep up the uploads lad.
Get to the point for Christ sake man.
Re time index 40 mins. Customers EICR trust. Usually not much of that! In my experience electricians always want to put in a new consumer unit even though the BS standards are not retrospective. Had an electrician who identified no RCD on lights, coded it C2 mandatory (rather than C3 advisory which would be how Electrical Safety First - Best Practice Guide would have coded it) and then wanted to charge £950! Well outside the upper limit for this work. Needless to say I got someone cheaper to do the work. Electricians stop ripping us off by claiming unnecessary work. Haven't decided whether to give this person a review yet which is the only penalty I can exact for this sort of behaviour.
Just a quick question, regarding the "cooker ignition switch + extractor hood switch" why does both switches contain 3 x T&E Cables?
An EICR should be carried out before a board change anyway, it's recommended in the guidelines
If you know you want a board change then the EICR should be afterwards. What would be the point of doing an EICR on old board, replacing it and then doing another EICR? Please explain your logic.
Are you a scouser?
🙂👍So glad I’m getting new cable before I have my bathroom remodel. My old shower start tripping RCD so replaced shower the problem is it’s still tripping . It looks like it’s a rewire. Upgrade to 10 mm . Not sure how complex but it obviously needs doing. Hope I get a quality job like you’ve done. I came here so I knew what to expect with a rewire. I’m just hoping there’s no trunking visible otherwise it will be a hallway re plaster as well😂 good excuse to redecorate. Great job thanks for shedding some light on been a good sparky and what to look out for . I used to love watching my dad work rewiring houses. Brings back happy memories helping squeeze through tiny holes in the floor and between floor board’s. He’s retired now but still enjoys mending anything. Great skill been a sparky .
So if you have installed a new consumer unit and it's tripping, then we might have to spend hundreds of pounds extra? OK got it.
Technically, circuits should be tested prior to board installation and any faults rectified. If no faults are identified on those tests, and then you have tripping after the board is fitted, assuming the board has been fitted properly, then it's likely an appliance causing the trip.
Was that the bus bar and the tail from the meter into the the same incomer switch terminal?
He sound like Jamie Charragher.

2:05 that sir is very true and annoys the shot out of me. And why I have unsubbed from a number of sparky channels. Let's continue and see if you get my sub..

you spoke for more than half the length of the video, and to be honest i havent heard a word you have said.. the rest was ok though
Looks good mate 👍 trying to work out if that's my old high school or not, it looks awfully familiar.
Nice job 👍🏻
You have a socket just for your wood shaping machine 10.53
You another one that calls it a “rooter” 😂
Seen on Instagram you've been featuring fusebox boards, they look like great boards. Do you fit them over eris now?
Tidy upgrade! I have a 8.5kw shower, 6mm cable - short run and the spark fitted a 50amp dp isolation switch is that OK? As the switch gets very warm when used
Can you do a eicr testing video plzz
Will try do one soon 👍
@@stfelectricalltd6849 thanks, im a apprentice and the students will love a full testing video. Cheers
Nice video! Nice to see a sparkie youtuber in my neck of the woods

Hope you carry these on in the new year

Thanks - more to come soon - we’ve had a little rethink over where we want the channel to go and pleased to say more to come in 2021!
Crackin Job. And cracking workmanship.. question re the emergency light. How is this maintained and serviced to cycle the battery? I fitted one on a job previously and organised a routine 6month check...
Obviously not a requirement for domestic installations so we are not as strict as our commercial/industrial clients re: maintenance. We don’t install key switches in this instance (simply label up the rcbo “switch off to test em light”) to make it easy for the client Simple education of the client to test the emergency light periodically when doing rcbo functional checks and testing fire detection. We do educate the client to do 3 hour tests to check battery etc at set intervals and leave them with a log sheet next to the board - but as I say it’s not a required system as in commercial properties so we are happy to explain this to the client and leave them with it
Spot on that mate.. really impressive set up. Hope your well mate 👍
Thanks Phil - Yeah all good here - hope you are yourself
Top Job Bud👌 Very Tidy Installation! How come 5 years on test and not 10 on EIC or is it Let? Great upload as always though
Thanks mate - lads have just put wrong date on it, would be picked up during snagging - we look at 10 years on new domestic installations unless it's a rental or if it's an existing installation where we want to keep a closer eye on any deterioration.
@@stfelectricalltd6849 Easy done bud. Quality work mate, you really do deserve a load more subscribers. Keep up the top work 👌
Cracking job m8
Cheers Mark
Nice tidy job and great advice to fit an emergency light near the consumer unit.
Thanks guys!
Hi, great video, can you please confirm the name of the downlighting units that you fitted? Thanks a lot
I'm a new subscriber and this was awesome thank you please do as many as these as you can I learnt more from this video than a year in college real life work. 👍🏻
Great video . Use lewden all the time 👍
Do I smell something ? A open PC with a fault present between the property & sub but not in the property . May trip a rcd but the rcd doesn't open the protected conductor . SO THE RCD IS JUST A FAULT INDICATOR NOT PROTECTION ! All the p c ( grounds ) will have the fault voltage on them with all the current the fault can pass ! Just food for thought .
gd2329j sorry not quite following your comment...?
@@stfelectricalltd6849 You have 2 or more property's after a external ground fault . ( open ground between them & the sub or at the sub ) . One or more property's has a serious fault ( back feeding the ground ) . The property you're in has a RCD tripping and voltage on the DNO ground . The rcd only opens the L & N not the protected conductor ( the ground ) SO THE RCD IS A FAULT INDICATOR NOT PROTECTION . As it can't open the protected conductor the fault voltage on the DNO ground appears on every ground after the fault . Seen this open water bonds in older property's & plumbers getting nasty surprises when cutting pipes . Glad i retired with this part P bull .
@@gd2329j What you are saying is that RCDs must have three contacts, L, N & E. So that any faults external to the building on the Earth cable are cut off not entering the property?
Great video. You need to look at getting a metermade tool for your tails. Got one last year and works really well. www.millsltd.com/metermade-25-smart-meter-cable-stripping-tool.html
Heat is not an issue with compact rcbo. considering 99% of the rcbo arent heavly load even a 40a is not loaded for a long enough time for heat to be a issue, as you stated there all BS rated and designed with dissipating heat considered. i know its all down to what you been taught, but i was taught and we teach that whenever you connect a fuse board you should always have enough slack to enable a circuit to be connected from one end of board and easily moved to other end, all your circuit appear to have no slack, IMOH
_"you should always have enough slack to enable a circuit to be connected from one end of board and easily moved to other end"_ That is what I do when possible.
Why do people still use those horrendous meter glands? The wiska grommet glands are the bolux
Regarding drilling out a 32mm hole to a 38mm hole you can use a 32mm male bush with a lockring and use a 38mm cutter to drill through.
A word of advice try and mark the cables so that other electricians can fault if there is an issue.
Nice review great spark.
Hi there, the isolating switch between the meter and the dist boards should be in a metal encloser as part of the 18th edition regs amendment 3.
Thats wrong, the main wylex 100A isolator switch doesn't need to conform to BS7671 amendment 3 of 17th "non combustible material" reg for 2 reasons. One the DNO dont work to BS7671 and also that it's only supplying one piece of electrical equipment.
Are you using type Ac or type A breakers
, its a recommendation to fit SPD's in domestic ,not a necssesity , manufactures have invested vast sums of money and need to push the industry to fit them , you might as well say why not fit AFCD's right now, within urban areas hardly need the IMO, been doing this for 30 years and never been a problem without them
Paul T it isn’t a recommendation if you read the reg however it gives instances where they can be omitted - a lot of people are trying to get around fitting them by using risk assessments and calcs in regs however there’s three issues here: 1 many are bending the calc to suit their argument of not fitting them 2 lengths of underground/over head cables etc you need to input into the calc to do it properly are nearly always never to hand to the electrician 3 even when calc is done properly with accurate values we’ve found calc often says one needs fitting My personal view is why join the race to the bottom - they aren’t dear just fit them and give your client a little more value rather than trying to avoid them at all cost like others are doing as they are afraid of loosing work on price - often then in some cases leaving an install that should have one Just my opinion
Another Tony bellend who loves his own voice 🤪
Is that a gap between the the metal blanks? Those labels look top 👍
Brilliant vlog chap 👍 Hope your staying safe in Wales 😂 Fuses Box cheap for a reason. I hope the world changes and values non Chinese equipment. I don’t want to support the capital of Corona 19 Virus.
Fair play being honest about the consumer unit covers not fitting. I’ve done that a few times on jobs ha ha
tommochelsea72 have to say we used a contactum defender last week - best board I’ve used in terms of robustness and the cover glided on - was a cheap board too - was amazed by the quality of it. These Fusebox’s are really good though I have to say I was impressed - small things they do (example making the rcbo terminals so there’s no way you can accidentally put the cable in behind the terminal) make the difference
STF Electrical Ltd yea I’ve heard good things about those contactum. Yea that’s a really simple but effective thing to add on the terminals. I’ve been to a few jobs where they’ve not made proper connections and burnt out.
The sync seems to be off.
Video of one of the grid switch install would be good. Don’t see many vids on them. 👍
The only thing that I would say is that you need to keep the tails as short as possible when using a SPD. Other than that, I'd say I would be well happy as a customer if that was the standard of work done at my house.
Stuart Arnold yes ideally 0.5m long (no more than 1m) - that is your line and your protective conductor combined - this board come pre installed with an SPD kit which included tails - I did measure them for this. In my option hager and contactum SPD “kits” are better as the tails supplied are spot on. If we are using a board without an SPD kit (tails don’t come with it) we install the mcb directly next to the SPD to absolutely minimise the length of the line conductor and mount at the end of the board close to the earth bar so both line and protective conductors are kept to an absolute minimum 👍🏻
I don't think any CU comes with a 40mm knockout, I use a cone cutter to enlarge the 32mm hole to a 40mm hole.
Great vid mate I do the same with the meter tails putting them in first, I would highly recommend using flexi meter tails 10x easier 👍🏻
Yes I’ve been put onto them in recent weeks - I’ve got to admit never knew they existed then when I first seen them I thought people where mistakenly using DC cables 😅 - I’m going to get some for the next install I do and give them a whirl, believe they’re so much better
STF Electrical Ltd Yes when I first saw them it was a Electrical Engineer who was also on site, at first I thought he was pulling single insulated meter tails in through the suspended ceiling, nearly spat my coffee out 😂
I'm too busy to watch this mate at the moment, but it's cheered me up to be looking forward to it tomorrow! I'm too busy trying to organise my new marketing push after LEAVING checkatrade which i plan to do in October cos they've gone ballistic with their prices and pissed me off. I''ve done 2 HAGER stacked fuseboards, very costly, the last one came to over a Grand for the install. Look forward to watching this tomorrow before I'm off up to Newcastle to collect ebay scaffolding - from the South Coast!
