If a home owner has become disabled and is over the age of 65, do they qualify for the tax exemption based on the two events or is it just one standard deduction per year?
I qualified for the HOMESTEAD ACT due to being a 100% disabled service-connected veteran. After my house burned, I bought a camper to live in while I rebuilt. Morrow County Ohio kicked me out of the HOMESTEAD ACT. I asked why. "Because your house burned. You don't have a house." Why did you DOUBLE propery value then? "Because you made improvements to your house." They blamed everything on the State of Ohio. USC Title-18 defines HOMESTEAD as any piece of land you use as your permanent address. Many weird things happening. I feel helpless, and my PTSD is aggravated by stress of ANY KIND. How does State law supercede federal law? Apparently, when the lower jurisdictions want more money. Your take on this? Thanks for any advice or encouragement.
Can't you apply for that anytime not just the first year or would you buy a house but I have a house for 20 years I've been on disability and I've never got up homestead exemption or a break on my property tax so I downloaded the form with to reply or to submit it's only 35 bucks for the homestead and I should always have that and when they switch mortgage companies they didn't transfer or anything they didn't tell me I had to get another one and I told him I wanted one to make sure that was still active and they didn't lose the refinance.
Texas is a very friendly state for Disabled Veterans and property tax exemptions. I'm a Veteran with a 100% disability rating and pay $0.00 in property taxes. Also, don't be afraid to appeal your tax bill! In the past I went before the appraisal board and disputed by property taxes and got thousands of dollars knocked off the overall appraised value. It's a very easy process!
How was your monthly mortgage amount affected after putting the refund check back into your escrow account? Did your mortgage amount stay the same, increase, or decrease?
It actually remained the same for a year. Once the actual tax amount aligned with the mortgage (about a year later) it increased to account for the actual tax amount. It’s been a slow increase each year to mostly account for the value increase of our home.
i closed November 21, the deadline was in March for the new tax year, so I put it off while I moved and got settled, and then I happened to get a new job starting in March and had to focus on that transition, so unfortunately my procrastination caused me to miss out. i was shocked when my tax bill came out! and even more shocked when I saw my new mortgage payment, but fortunately i had also saved that escrow check and was able to apply it towards my escrow account to keep my payment low/manageable. And yes, the application took less than 5 minutes to complete, I still kick myself for not doing it right after closing. it was easier than turning on utilities for my new construction home.
Okay I'm on disability and I filed bankruptcy about 7 years ago and my homestead expired in 2010 with a different mortgage company mortgage bros they sold my mortgage to Wells Fargo and I don't even have a homestead I just looked it up and I can't believe it's expired so how do I go about this cuz I did call my lawyer they're like oh we never heard of an exempt homestead
My county exemption requirements are ridiculous...have to be at least 65 years old or permanently disabled and making less than $33K per year...I want to know who owns a home at that salary...welp guess that disqualifies millennial first time home buyers like me...smh.
@@theirvs793 that’s the only one I see…Thanks for the reply! Keep up the great work y’all. I see mighty blessing and favor on you two and seeing you guys makes me hopeful for the future wife and kids I hope to fill my new home with.
Question: what state do you live in, if you don’t mind telling me? If so, I totally understand. My husband and I are planning on relocating to FL. When you mentioned homestead, I thought about FL. Not sure which other states offer the homestead.
We are in Georgia. Pretty much every state has something. The rules may be different for the county you will be living in, but there is usually some type of homestead exemption.
Great question. No, as long as you qualify for the exemption you don’t have to pay back the savings. If you decide to break the rules and continue getting the exemption after you no longer qualify (ex: the home becomes an investment property), then they could certainly ask for you to pay them back for the time you did not qualify.

Call your county property tax office.
Where can I find out how much exemption will I receive?
Reach out to your local property tax office.
I think you have to get homeowners insurance to make up the difference for your house. Which I have.

That’s unfortunate. Your county doesn’t offer a regular homestead exemption for everyone?

Hi, What if my home is payed off? I’m in Cypress,Texas my property taxes are $6,000 due now 😅.
Our home is also paid off too and we were told to apply for it and it was approved
As long as it’s your primary residence you should still benefit. But always check your local rules.
Do you have to pay back the money that the homestead exemption helps with the property taxes?

How is DR Horton home apply to homestead. Sounds like tax fraud.
It’s not tax fraud and it has nothing to do with DR Horton. As a home owner, you can apply for homestead exemption if it is your primary home.
You need to file a lawsuit to get all your tax money back
Are we talking about Make Up ? or Homestead Exemption
Homestead exemption
I got turned off by the whole 15 minute make up commercial. I’m moving on to the next RUclips video about tax exemptions 🤷🏻♀️
Enjoy!
