I've not had that problem... But I'd be careful with the FRAM oil filters. My engine would pop the seam on the FRAM filters. My local specialty acvw shop recommends using MANN FILTER W 920/17. I have never had a problem with oil filters since. I did also install an EMPI breather kit. Keep up the great work!! I would love to see your friends rail buggy.
Yes I also have had that problem popping oil filter seals. I don't run the normal Fram filters I only run there racing series filters but nobody around here stocks them anymore. We'll hopefully be pulling that rail out next week.
Not a remote filter, but I used to change my oil often because I put a lot of miles on my little 1983 Mazda B2000. On a particular day I had just changed my oil and drove pizza delivery all night, stopping for gas on the way home. As I left the gas station the idiot light came on for oil and my engine locked up. To this day I'm not sure what happened. The filter was still there, I know I put oil in otherwise how did I drive most of the night? One of the mysteries of my life.. any ideas?
@@ddk56vw No. I have never gotten that far along in an engine. I have helped change them but that was later. If RUclips had been around I might have watched some videos and tried it. No it was locked up and I let it go. If I had the money I would have put another motor in, but I was struggling at the time.
I was raised with vws, we changed oil, engines ran their life time as expected, never did i see indication that a filter would have extended the life, i dont want that ugly filter and hoses hanging in that engine bay. My advice, save yourself the pain
Oil filter doesn't hang in the engine bay, it is tucked under the fender. You are right, if you are running a stock 1500 or 1600 there is no need for more than a factor filter. I run something completely different than stock.
Good information! Thank you for sharing!👍
Sorry to hear about your engine oil filter going south . Simon will slide down that road now .

Hard to say, it's possible that the oil pump failed. Did you ever tear it down?

@@clasicradiolover that is understandable. My Bug is my second car not my daily. Work comes first.
Thanks for the tip. Surprised you're not a fan of Oberg oil filters.
I have never run a Oberg filter so I really can't say I am a fan either way. From what I have heard, they do work well.
@@ddk56vw Some folks like them, some don't. I bought a used one at a local swap meet. I haven't install it yet.
Bummer. Thanks for the tip.
