- Malaysia has ended blanket subsidies for diesel to cut government spending and curb fuel smuggling into neighbouring countries. The price of diesel now stands at RM3.35 -- a 56% rise. However, diesel for low-income groups -- like fishermen and farmers, as well as operators of school buses and ambulances -- will continue to be subsidised. The government expects targeted subsidies to save Malaysia around $850 million annually. The subsidy cuts for RON95 -- the cheapest and most widely used gasoline -- is on track to be rolled out in the second half of 2024. Afifah Ariffin reports.

Because of a big price difference of Malaysian diesel with bordered neighbours, massive illegal pilfirage of it to neighbouring countries has been happening for the past decades. Billions of ringgit are lost annually. Enough is enough!

2. Reduce the salaries and perks to politicians and the top leadership to save the country ( that being the reason for the need to increase in diesel price )
3. Stop all activities that are losing money .. especially government linked companies.
4.Etc ..etc

Malaya is but not Malaysia, Sarawak and Sabah own Oil and Gas is way more than enough and is currently exporting to Malaya every working day.

They make a bit of money from exporting the light crude for aviation fuel and that allows them to import cheap heavy crude for diesel and oils etc.

@@parrotbrand2782 Still not decided by government yet as nowadays basic materials costs increase gradually. However, in other countries different grades of biodiesel, different their prices. They're cheaper than the commercial diesel (in their currencies value) & supported by governments for Green Energy Campaigns.
Some countries might have difficultly to produce biofuels due to lack of raw materials and infrastructures to manufacturing biofuels, they have to felt pinch in pocket money to buy any fuels available (their biofuels are expensive for them).

😮🙏 Old prices for Diesel is RM2.15 per Liter. New Diesel prices after subsidy cut is RM3.35 per Liter! That's RM1.20 increase in prices per Liter! Just filling in 30 Liters of Diesel would cost RM100.50 nowadays , from RM64.5 ... That's RM36 increases! 😮🙏

Soon or later, RON 95 will have fuel subsidies cut. If can possible 5 percent ethanol can be added within the common gasoline spec (EN 228) known as bioethanol mainly as a biofuel additive for gasoline. 5% to 10% of bioethanol might degrade some certain engine parts otherwise it can runs no issues as normal operating. Its drawback, the higher content of alcohol inside gasoline, engine requires to be modification to suits on alcohol-fuel mixture.
Second option is invests in plug-in electric vehicle, typically a battery electric vehicle (BEV) for long run.
