These 3 young men are living a really tough life. They can not crawl out of poverty until they grow up and have someone who can help them. I would venture to say that in 5 years they still won’t have the life they want. Wishing and wanting will not give them success.

Single Mom raised 3 kids, worked 2, 3 jobs. My girls learned to sew my son learned guitar and started working at 13 as a dishwasher in a restaurant. They knew if they wanted anything they'd have to work. Constantly had our electricity and water turned off. They're now adults and one has kids of her own. They're happy self reliant now, they are happy with life. I drilled into their heads that getting involved with drugs and alcohol will only make it worse and even though they experimented luckily none of them were consumed. I feel very blessed, I see other family members who had money spoil their kids and now they're either drug/alcohol dependent or constantly thinking about being rich and not happy until they are. All I can say as a parent is love your kids, try to keep communication open and have some rules that are fair.

I can tell you from experience after 20 years now that I was not ready to be a Parent at that age and neither was my Ex. My cousin moved to England to marry her online boyfriend. She came back to USA bragging that he was selling his estate and would be moving in with us elderly sisters add- on apartment. She made out like he lived on a huge "Estate" but I knew better. He didn't even own a car and she had to always pay her own way back and forth. She was just bragging it up about hi "estate" and I said OH YOU MEAN HIS HOUSE IN THE COUNCIL ESTATE. She looked daggers at me. I had hit the nail right on the head. She still holds it against me. She ended up selling her property in the country so that she could afford for him to come to USA and they could get married. I asked her....didn't he settle his council house yet?? The rest of the family had pictured that he owned this nice "estate" and he was probably rich. Hahahaha.

Let me just clarify this for non-UK people. University costs around £9,000 a year (stupidly expensive compared with what it used to be). You can get a student loan to cover the fees and a basic maintenance loan, and then you get another based on family income. Each university will also have a specific fund available to help those with low income and funds - I frequently applied for assistance from my university's fund and you don't pay it back. Regarding the student loan from the SLC (Student Loans Company) you start to pay it back once you earn a certain salary. These repayments are not huge and nothing to fear.
I hope that things worked out well for those who appeared in this episode ✨

I think the advent of Internet have provided the tool for most if not all poor people to move up the economic ladder. I have helped several people in our church that have little if anything to start a side business or two and this has been a life changing experience for them. There does take that "effort" part by them but given the right push and a mentor if needed it works. Get off your rear end, quit feeling sorry for yourself, embrace technology and you will move up the economic ladder.

The greatest disease in the West today is not TB or leprosy; it is being unwanted, unloved, and uncared for.
We can cure physical diseases with medicine, but the only cure for loneliness, despair, and hopelessness is love.
There are many in the world who are dying for a piece of bread, but there are many more dying for a little love.
The poverty in the West is a different kind of poverty -- it is not only a poverty of loneliness, but also of spirituality.
There's a hunger for love, as there is a hunger for God...

I have to say, and i do realize that my confusion definitely shows how privileged I was growing up, but i do not understand why in the UK there is so much pressures for teens to be adults and work. Like i am always confused watching a British show and the teens are expected to work. Like when i was growing up the expectation was that i would just go to school and maybe work in the summer if i wanted to. My mom was a single mother of three and there were many years when we qualified for public benefits but with all the financial hardships, my mother never put financial pressures on us, even though we were aware that we couldn't ask for whatever we wanted. And this might be my experience but many of my friends and neighbors were in a similar financial situation and if they worked, it was in the summer or a few hours a week in retail for pocket money. Like i hope someone gives me a little more context because while i understand why these particular teens want to work, the fact that this is so prevalent (or at least made to appear to be) that am assuming something else is going on in the overall culture.

There’s free food giveaways in most towns in California every week. I qualify as a widow and low income to receive food assistance should I want it. But I don’t need it so I don’t take it but it’s there for me if I need it. I do not understand how the UK doesn’t take care of their people. I’m sorry but these young kids would never be this destitute in California. California has the fifth largest economy on the planet, and we take care of our own. We take care of immigrants. If we can do it I don’t understand how the UK cannot do it.
