When I was in Cambridge MA as a grad student in Fall 1979, I was looking to buy a car, and a Harvard dean, a woman from Argentina I believe, was selling her maroon 164 with white leather, much nicer and more powerful than the base Volvo, BUT the damned car could not start, and I gave up on it, with major regrets. I ended up buying a total POS VW Passat (Dasher in the US) Wagon, only 4 years old and with only 65k miles, I paid an arm and a leg both to buy the POS and for the many expensive repairs for just 3 years and 10k miles I put on it. I never bought a god damned VW again. VOlvos are also pretty lousy Reliability wise, even these 'honest looking' old square ones.
What a stunner that is.
This would be hard not to love. It is beautiful. A credit to the owner and restorers.
My English teacher had one of these when I was about 11 years old (same colour too). Even then I knew it was something above the norm. Beautiful.
What a beautiful 😍 job has been done on this motor 👏 this is when volvos were volvos 😊❤
When Volvos were Volvos... great comment 👍
❤ amazing . Love these old volvos
Wrong time for me, otherwise I would be coming to buy it. A stunner.
Lovely car, someone out there will be all over this like a rash.
Started working for ray chapman Volvo in 1973 worked on them regularly
A beautiful looking car! Love a column gear shift!
Hello from New Jersey. Wonderful automobile. Gladiator we salute you!
Stunning. Would like to know how much it achieved at auction?
Oh what a beauty, shame we don't get to hear about the cars history.
My dad had a 1972 L Reg 164E Auto. Solid is not the word! We had a front end smash with a mini and no significant damage. The mini? ....not good! 😵
seriously? A MINI? The OLD Mini which is half the size of the BMW Mini? Why didn't you hit a scooter instead. Laughable.
It's got the wrong wiper blade on it but as for rust its Volvo and I don't expect to see any rust
Its an early 164 so most likely without power steering. Can you retro fit power steering to these?
Rather have this than some exotic
Too difficult to buy from Australia, someone will be happy 😂
These push rod engine Volvo models much more teliable than later models
no they also sucked. even the base, very underpowered 240 GL
Bit pedantic but I would have thought that they would have fitted chrome windscreen wipers
This car is model 1971.
I have seen this car before I think it belonged to a young guy on YT if its not his car it looks identical.
Not that car reg is different
The panel gaps aren’t good .
