By the way, I had not paired my bluetooth keyboard properly, but now I'm all set. It's working perfectly. Thanks for telling us about this cool keyboard, it's "just right!"
I hear ya. Even I said it was not a deal killer for me and I can see the keys pretty clearly even in low light, I can see having that light shine through would make it pop even more.
I purchased the shine through keycaps. They work great. The only issue is that the RGB is not very bright. I contacted Keychron and hopefully there is a software way to brighten up the RGB more than what the keyboard shortcuts and VIA will allow.
great review! I have a K2 Pro at the office for my PC and a K7 at home for my Mac (and the PC when I work from home). I love the K7 but the size is a bit too small, specifically, the combination of the function and number rows and having to use the fn1 and fn2 keys. It can get a bit confusing when the shift is also needed depending on which key you're trying to use. I've been wanting to get a K3 Pro because I also really like the low profile style of the K7 and this video may have persuaded me to go ahead and make the upgrade!
hm... I thought double-shot meant that the keys had lettering that were see-through for the led light. seems to be no purpose for the double-shot construction method if the key labels are not visible :/
Honestly, I haven't tried any Nuphy keyboards. It's one of those things where once I find a brand I like, I always stick with it. I've had 4 different Keychron keyboards. One of these days, I need to get a hold of a Nuphy (which look like great keyboards.)
Isn't it stupid to make a backlit keyboard and make the keys totally opaque!!! I seldom use backlight, but in the offchance I have to use, I would need it to see my keyboard. Not the dust accumulated at the base of it...
Light that shines through the letters look cheap. This is also a keyboard which is perfectly balanced between gaming and productivity, maybe that’s why they did that to make it not look to gamy or something idk. But anyway who sits in complete darkness anyways? I think it’s a valid design feature
can it be good both for programming and gaming? i have ordered one with lube applied and i am thinking if i should include noise cancellation as well.. maybe the second one is unnecessary.
My keyboard just arrived, and I just realized that the letters don’t light up. They’re just painted and there's no way for the light to pass through them. I don’t understand the reason for having an RGB keyboard with keys that block the light.
sound test is still off and muffled - I saw another review on Keychron K3 Pro that sounded vastly different and much cleaner, and wasn't just because of different switches Other than that - fantastic review. The option to buy Keychron K3 just came up for less than full price and I can now peacefully pass on it because this review as well as others confirmed to me how much I despise low-profile keyboards - less of a satisfying pressing of keys feel, and absolutely no thock sounds. Appreciate the thorough take on it!
Do all the stabilized keys use standard Cherry MX stabilizers? I's like to pair the K3 Pro with XVX PBT shine through keycaps which are universally compatible with Gateron and Cherry MX switches and stabilizers.
Is the K3 really that loud? Or, in comparison, is the K7 really that much more quiet? What switches were you using for the K7? And would the K3 with reds be comparibly quiet?
I would say.. the K3 is really not that loud. The typing test is more for how it sounds. When you're listening on RUclips, how loud something is, is relative. With that said though, of course this going to be louder than non-mechanical keyboards. I will say that red switches will be quieter but you're getting a different experience at that point.
When you demoed the key mapping software, does this mean that you basically updated the keyboard with the new macros? Meaning, if I took that keyboard to a computer that has never been connected, it should keep the macro keys you set?
Can someone please tell me which version is hot swappable and which is not. I want the white backlight k3 pro but I am not sure if it is hot swappable or not. Their website does not mention anything about it being not hotswappable (Keychron Canada)
Wait these are the browns?! I skipped to the sound test and then went back to the “build quality” and saw where you said you got the browns😂😂😂😂. Gosh darn. I think Im definitely gonna be grabbing this over the Logitech Mx Mechanical Mini then/mx keys mini.
Yep, i cry over this one as well. I've just pulled my finger off from BUY button and now i have hard choice between shine-through caps in K3 and VIA software in K3 Pro. I started to look for some other alternatives as well.
Oh no! Key caps do not have shine-through letters like in normal K3?? What a bummer ... its a deal breaker feature to me as i often work/play at night :(
Thanks for the video, Patrick! Any experience with traveling with the K3 Pro and durability? Thinking about getting one for in-Office use, so will need to travel with it in a bag. Concerns are around the key caps falling off and/or dirt/debris getting into the key mechanisms. Currently have a K8 Pro for dedicated home office use, and it’s the best Keyboard I’ve had to date. No issues with lag over Bluetooth unlike the K3 I demoed a year ago. Other options are the Nuphy Air75 or Logitech MX Keys Mini (non-mechanical as it’s likely more durable for travel though typing won’t be as nice).
I don't know how well they would do for traveling. The pro line from Keychron's are very well built but probably not made for traveling. Honestly, the Nuphy Air75 seems like a good option because you can get it with a folio case.
I am planning to buy it as my first mechanical keyboard and I want to know if I can use beautiful keycaps that I often seen online on this low profile keyboard as well?
Hey, if it's possible to mount normal keycaps they will stick out like sore thumb thanks to the height difference to the normal stock caps, unless you replace the whole set
In theory yes... but these are low-profile switches so I'm not 100% sure. I've only owned one hot swappable keyboard and I actually never switched them out.
any problems with connectivity or delay through BT? I heard a lot and quite afraid of those issues, like 40-50s delay until it gets back connected after idle time.
Both. I never takes that long. I haven't noticed in a while, but at most a few seconds coming off from sleep. As far as the PC / Mac waking up... it really depends on the the OS on how fast it connects back to the keyboard.
@@EverydayTechTV thanks for the input, then I might consider it actually, this was the only thing stopping me from buying keychron. Been using mx mech mini now but keycaps are quite bad. I love pbt ;) I see there is also K1 pro which is tkl. I do not actually know if I prefer low profile layout or normal one.
Definitely doesn't show finger prints. As far as shine is concerned, I see a little bit of shine from the oil from my fingers, but a nice cleaning gets rid of it.
Hello, is there a delay in the Bluetooth connection compared to the 2.4ghz connection? And the keyboard that was previously connected to the computer automatically connects and works when the computer is turned on for the first time?
Damn, the backlight is a dealbreaker for me. Why put stupid RGB and a dedicated key (in this limited number of key circumstance) for lighting, instead of making the letters of the keys transparent on simple white backlight, like most laptops. I need to type in a completely dark environment (monitor lighting won't help, because the screen is white text on a black background).
I hear ya. There is always the option to get keycaps that are transparent, but that’s an extra cost. Since it’s not a requirement for me, this has been awesome for me. Good luck in your search.
You could be very right. I don't recall if I remembered to take turn off some of the EQ and processing from my ATEM Mini. With that said, listening to it again, it's still pretty close as far as sound but I'm definitely putting that on my list of things to make sure when doing sound tests. I apologize for that and thanks for that.
It's a personal preference but I personally use one. I had to get a lower profile for this keyboard. The one I used for my other keyboards was a little too high.
This is so strange - in the UK the keycaps are shine-through. I think this was the same with the K8 Pro - in the UK it was sold with shine-through keycaps, but in the US they're not shine-through keycaps??? What's going on?
I haven't been in the market for them honestly. I am currently reviewing another low-profile keyboard that came with an extra set of key--caps. I'm going to see if they fit on this one.
The battery life is okay. To be honest, I wish it were better though. It's been able to last at least a week, but it depends how bright you make the backlit. It could be different from unit to unit though. In general, the battery life is just okay.
