  • Andrew Bain and Robert DeMaine talk through the keys to making auditions successful and what happens on the other side of the screen. Here are the highlights.
    1. PLAN for the Nerves. A huge part of the process is understanding how YOU will react on the day of an audition.
    2. AIM for Musicality. Missed notes will happen in an audition, but you will get much further by playing freely rather than “safely.” Remember, the panel is looking for a great musician.
    3. PRACTICE the Fundamentals. Andrew’s practice plan is two parts technique building to one part repertoire study. Basics are what build efficient practice.
    4. BREAK DOWN your Practice. Focused, five minute chunks in thirty minute sessions will allow you to be more productive with the time you have.
    5. Focus on your MENTAL GAME. The hours spent visualizing, listening, and self reflecting do as much for your playing as hours spent in practice
