Great video! Just had a question, if I were recording the audio of a hardware synth into logic, how would you go about making sure it fits in with a drum groove or bass part etc? Or does it automatically detect the bpm and adjust it accordingly?
Hey there. You'd generally be best to match the BPM or play in manually. There are quantization options but it is best to get it right from the start. logicipad.com/
Yup, sure is! You can adjust the pitch by changing the key or matching it to the original audio. Check out my other videos that show this here - logicipad.com/
That looks great, but I like the experience of using Logic Pro with Stage Manager better. Fyi, I’m way wondering if you have a video covering the fundamentals of Logic. I’m having a hard time understanding the difference between midi, drummer and pattern, which all just seem like virtual instruments, along with some other terminology. I am switching over from garage band which I mainly just used for live performances with amp simulations and my harmonica - but trying to go deeper into DAWs.

Thanks Pete for your insights… But how do you import a wave file audio backing track into Logic Pro? Can you actually do this? I’d like to be able to try and add things to an existing audio file. Can’t seem to see how to do it myself…Many thanks Peter
You're nailing these Logic videos. I just asked this under yesterday's video but I hadn't realised you'd posted this one. You're more likely to see it here so I'll ask again. Sorry for the repetition. Have you seen a way to export midi data to a file? There's nothing in the usual export area but it seems like that should be part of a pro DAW. Any idea?
Hey there. So... unfortunately MIDI export isn't currently a part of Logic Pro. We are hoping it's on Apple's roadmap for future updates, but not there right now. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!
@@PeteJohnsMusic In the manual, in the section headed "Supported file formats in Logic Pro for iPad" there is a paragraph headed "Standard MIDI files", where it says, "Standard MIDI file (SMF) is the standard file format used in MIDI sequencers. Standard MIDI files can be read and saved in Logic Pro". This is ambiguous to say the least. I'm assuming they mean LP for Mac, not the iPad version. They really should clarify this. Also, after last night's live session, I went looking for Flex Pitch and Flex Time. I dragged an audio sample into a new track, opened the Inspector, changed the region to Track, and switched on Flex. This gave me two new settings: Flex Mode and Complex on/off. In Flex Mode I could choose from six different Flex Time options. But I couldn't see anything for Flex Pitch. It's also not obvious to me how to use the Flex Time options, mainly because I've been away from music production and Logic Pro for a couple of years. 🙄
