Great countdown, and this is my favorite way to do them: Not based on when things are released (so arbitrary, so unfair to when a work happens to hit the market), but when they come to mean something to you. Thanks!
Great 2022 list. I was surprised that Anno 1800 & Frosthaven aren't in the lost so I laugh when Carley explained just why those aren't. Looking forward to a Carley's Mom cameo 😜
I've also lost every single Wonderland's War game. I think I need to play it again with people who have all played it before because my brain can't teach the game and strategize at the same time. But the game is so good. I always have such a good time playing it!
Wooo friendship! Excited for Heat and Darkest Dungeon! Literally sitting silently in a living room with sleeping folks surrounding me to attempt learning it as we speak.
Hope you enjoy your trip to Texas. Wife and I are in Fort Worth. This past year had been an explosion of real gaming for us. We now have 141 games (includes some dnd stuff) in our game room lol
My gf just bought me for Christmas Gloomhaven & Jaws of the lion. Can't wait to play them all and then start Frosthaven... we might grow old by then, but i'm still exited for it =)) and the way you talk about it make it wanna play even more.
"Wonderland Wars is a nice stress free game" Go play it with the NRB crew the next time you're out there and see if you still say that. It is an amazing, but that crew can make a game of Go Fish into a stressful experience. I love NRB, but it is their way.
I actually want to pick up "Heat, Pedal To The Metal" also... We just played " Long Shot" last night for the first time and I realized that I like racing games....
Happy New Year Carly! Hope you have a great 2023. Loved seeing you on the NRB channel with your epic games of Blood on the Clocktower and The Thing. Look forward to watching more great content in 2023.
I'm so freaking hyped for Wonderland's War! I played it while I stayed abroad in Ireland this year and I just fell in love with everything the game has to offer. I know one playthrough is aproximately 14 hours but I don't mind. Also the gmae has the perfect level of engagement. You can play it while carrying a conversation or having a few drinks and you do not get lost or struggle to keep up. I immediately backed it once it came back on kickstarter
You have great taste! Ark nova and planet unknown are both at the top for me this year, and im sure Heat would be too if i had played it. Unfortunately its difficult to get hold of for a decent price over here in Blighty
Ark Nova is definitely at the top of my list but fighting for that top spot with Final Girl. Also, Encyclopedia is great! I've only got to play it solo so far but really enjoyed it.
16:22 I am excited to return to my old games and am completely done with the money sink called Crowdfunding delivering unfinished games years later than projected.
Encyclopedia is great, really enjoyed this one. Not as much decision paralysis as other worker placement games, so as the players improve meta becomes resource denial, in particular throwing away cards and dice your opponents could leverage to walk out with outrageously high scores. It’s been an excellent game overall for us. Curious to see your thoughts on this one.
@@wayner7263 lol. Fair enough. I got over bad naming as Agricola and Puerto Rico and others have had such a large impact on me. I didn’t think Ark Nova, a build your zoo game, was going to be good as it is!
Heat: Petal to the Metal is a fun game and I generally don't care for racing themed games (not to be confused with games that give you more points to be the 1st to reach or accomplish something). Days of Wonder essentially included an expansion giving you much bang for your buck too! The hand management aspect central to this game gives you a feeling of racing around the race track in those vehicles. Great game! Have you tried Carnegie? The gameplay really surprised me. I initially bought it for its gimmicky player boards (I'm a sucker for gimmicky board design) but found myself really enjoying the game. I love how you build up your company, expand throughout the USA and at the end throw much of your wealth into the charities (they act like end game vp). It's my favorite 2022 boardgame however I have yet to play Endless Winter or Wayfarers of the South Tigris (the only other boardgames of 2022 that I bought but have not gotten to the table yet). Anyway, I passed on Ark Nova mainly for its card mechanic (a serious flaw according to many of its naysayers) and it being a table hog. I love the zoo theme though and there is another zoo themed boardgame I'm waiting for later this year (can't recall it's name atm). Wonderlands War is one of those games I think I need to play before I buy. I keep reaching for the box whenever I'm at my FLGS but always put it back on its shelf. Just came upon your video. Looking forward to more videos from you in the future.
As far as Texas, if you’re coming to San Antonio by chance you need to stop by Knight Watch Games! I don’t work there or anything but it’s an amazing board game store.
@@GnarlyCarleyGaming That's awesome! I introduced all my friends to BotC because of you and the No Rolls Barred team (we play it weekly at my house now) so if I don't run into you at Knight Watch, thank you for helping put out such great content.
Foundations of Rome is also so damn good, I’m waiting for my own copy from KS now, such a great game - pretty easy on the rules but a stuff to think about :)
I'm waiting to get my copy of Wonderlands War. I did play it once at bgg but at 2 player. I feel this should be played at a higher player count to really enjoy it. I'm part of the cult 🙋♀️. Ark Nova was on my list as well. I honestly love it solo over multiplayer. I really want to play Burncycle.

Have you tried John Company 2? It’s so, soooo good! Also props for Wonderlands War - such a great bagbuilding push your luck thing, always a pleasure to play
@@GnarlyCarleyGaming if you don’t get annoyed by sometimes getting bad rolls here and there (which you can prepare for, but can not really mitigate the actual result) and like table talk with a bunch of backstabbing you’ll love it. For me it was one of the most anticipated games of 2022 and totally lived up to that hype! I’ve played it on Tabletop Similator back when KS campaign was up and running, but they streamlined it in the actual release. Great game, awesome production, all around solid box. Would love to hear your thoughts on it once you play it!
Burncycle is rad. It's kinda hard to play at first. U can't really tell what robots are good for what mission without playing it a few times. It can lead to the first plays being not great.
+1 barrier of entry of all CTG game is hard (except maybe hoplo...) but once you get past it, understand the complexity, that you ll do rules goof and that this game is a stealth "heist" (being aggressive is not the easy way) game it is a really good game ! Little adviced, the game is designed to included building you bots teams as a part of the gameplay... not reading your missions, looking at the map and building your team directly impact your strategy for the mission and can make you have a really bad experience as it makes every error more punishing or reduce your possibilities if you match them without planning. At least during the learning curve 😇. Don't underestimate the network, networl card are really helpful and most important enjoy your game !!😍🤩😍 😅 Do the learn to play and ask any question on discord, community's and CTG are really fast to help.

For me, it doesn’t work if you don’t show the actual game in these reviews. All you had to do was flip the box round to the back & show it close up - otherwise, it only works for those very familiar with the ones you are talking about.
Ark Nova, Planet Unknown and I'd say Anno 1880 even with sadly only one play (I kept meaning to go back and learn the solo campaign... 2023 to do list). Saw so much if Encyclopedia but it looked so busy I disregarded delving further but that sounds like SUCH a good time. Wonderlands War I've really wanted to try (so much so I was super silly and was told there's a fan made solo that's decent enough from a person I trust in solo gaming.... I pulled things together and backed the latest KS 😅). I mean it's also really pretty and I love Alice in Wonderland. LASTLY, yup all I know of dominant species is Parks & Rec. Loved that show.
"Games I physically struggled with in 2022, and games I hope to struggle with in 2023" 🤣
We need a series of Carley and her mom playing games.
Agree. I will watch it 😊

What a refreshing outlook! I particularly enjoyed the "Foundations of Rome" presentations. Keep up the good work Carley, quite an inspiration.
love watching your videos everytime i see you i have to think of yennefer of vengerberg .
Awww thanks!
Haha I can't unsee that now that you mention it. Great video!
My sister, her husband, and I just started Gloomhaven Jaws of the Lion and it is really fun. We're pretty excited to play the original once we finish.
Gloomhaven Jaws of the Lion is in my list of “Carley made me bough it”

Sounds like you have some fun times planned this year, am excited for getting Oathsworn and the wonderlands war duluxe pieces and expansion this year
I actually don't have the deluxe WW, and so on the lookout to snag and upgrade mine given how much we enjoy it.

Thank you for this ... a couple of these are beyond my means, but you convinced me to look into Encyclopedia.
Cool countdown Carley, some nice games on that list 🙂
Ark Nova is such a fun game. There are so many routes that you can go. I'm so jealous, I really want to check out Frosthaven
I identified the Anno cult as a cult every single time and I still ended up joining the cult despite it clearly being a cult…

Happy New Year Gnarly Carley keep on gaming and getting together with your friends as often as you can 🥳
Great games, I've just played yesterday Ark Nova for the first time and we had a blast, it's long but it doesn't feel that long at all, just amazing!
