I love seeing the English countryside, and the picnic area is beautiful. When I saw it, I was reminded about Hyacinth Bucket of Keeping Up Appearances who would have described the "riparian delights" of that scene. 😃

I loved the scene where he was driving through the town on the narrow street. The countryside is so lovely with the rock walls, the flowers and narrow roads. So different than here in the States.

Agree with you Joel, "The betrayal of Thomas True" is a book so cleverly written. A return to a past that should not be forgotten not to stay trapped in it but so that it does not repeat itself. Adorable main characters and a touching theme that remains circling in our memory even after finishing reading.

Giggled at how "hot" you said 73* was. I live in Central Texas and although we are having a "cold" spell right now, (73, cold and rainy) we have had 100+* days already. Love both pair of glasses, especially the round, darker framed one. You look very nice in them. Ava is so cute.

Those frames fit you very nicely. I prefer the black ones. Your eyes are nicely centered in the frames, and the shape is very flattering. They both look very intellectual. I do like the quality of Rayban frames. Good decision.

I've always left my apartments in the same state I found them... I'd be too embarrassed otherwise haha! I rented a house for six years... they had to replace the carpets when I moved out, simply because the length of time I'd been there. When I moved in, they had a $99 deposit special. After 6 years, I actually got the entire $99 back on move out! I laughed so hard because I was sure they would use it for something. Have a wonderful week, Joel!

The pink flowering plants you passed are called Rosebay willow herb or sometimes fireweed.
For future reference, when separating a plant that has sparse roots or trying to propagate with a cutting you can buy a rooting hormone product that helps the plant sprout roots along the stem. In the US it's called Root Tone.

Thinking that tall flowering plant on your walk may be called Lupine, you might want to google just to be sure. Hope the plant you divided survives, remember to talk to them,lol. Beautiful place to have a get together, too bad the weather turned, but Ava looked so cool swimming in the water. Yeah, no fun dealing with tenants, but as you said it could be worse. They don't look at all like the lupines we have here in New England.
You are probably right, I was looking at the varieties in google, which there were several.
I feel like they look like some pictures I've seen of purple loosestrife. They are highly invasive in parts of Wisconsin and seem to be in the UK as well.
Edit to add: seems another commenter thinks they are fireweed.. which seems to be very similar but they differ by the number of petals each flower has. Fireweed has four whereas purple loosestrife has five to seven.
Joel needs to take a picture and google it, then let us know the results,lol. Loosestrife looks shorter, at least the pictures I saw in google, haven't looked up fireweed, but will! Cheers🌿👍
A great weekly vlog! So fun to see what you get up to day-to-day. I have a terrible time getting myself motivated to exercise, but I will often remind myself, “what does Joel say-the only workout you regret is the one you don’t do,” so it was good to hear you say that again. 😊 I often think of you and Keegan as my inspiration to get some exercise done, so thanks to you both for the motivation!

Yep, just checked, that’s what it is. We have huge amounts up here next to all the fields and paths in Aberdeen.

Problems with night driving is also a common issue associated with age. 😊 As you get older it gets worse.

Here in Florida it's been 92, 93 degrees F almost every day, although when we get thunderstorms it drops back into the 70s. I really enjoy your walks into the countryside. It reminds me so much of my home in western Massachusetts. Glad to see all your family. Have a great week.
I have had 3 eye surgeries (they knew and told me beforehand that I would need at least 2 surgeries because of my extra thick cornea's) and I had/still have really good night vision, HOWEVER, the head lights affect my night vision really bad. I have always been sensitive to it, but it is much worse now. My parents got some night driving glasses meant to reduce the headlight glare and they have really helped my night driving.

Joel, it was 35 centigrade here today, 38.3 is predicted for tomorrow and 36.6 for the next day, so we definitely need AC here! Silicon Valley is part of the San Francisco Bay Area, but we don't get the seabreeze from teh Pacific Ocean during the day, because of the Santa Cruz mountains, so it stays quite a bit hotter down here than in SF. It does cool off at night when we get the seabreeze from San Francisco Bay, but you need the AC during the day! To me, if it's much warmer than 22 C, you definitely want the AC running, because it will get very hot in a building or vehicle!
I can understand it being expensive for Brits to install full building AC because it's likely to be a brick building, but you could at least install portable ones in each room! You will need more and more as global warming continues, though both UK and California are working hard on transitioning to EVs and green power. This afternoon we were about 70% solar power here in California 🙂

That plant kind of looked like it had been overwatered and got root rot. It looks like a succulent, however, so it can last a while without roots. I would've just cut off the bottom of the stem where the roots had shriveled and tried to re-root the plant. Not too much water, though!

Thank you for pointing out the book Betrayal of Thomas True. I will buy it when it becomes available in America in October. But I will likely get the Kindle version rather than the hardcover, which seems to cost $27! Can't afford that even for a hardcover! But it is nice to see an author write a character with the last name of True. It is a relatively rare last name, but I enjoy it. Another book with a character with the name Jim True (my name!) is "Nobody True" by James Herbert.
I also got my eyes lasered over 10 years ago. I’m having the same symptoms as you, not a strong number for glasses, astigmatism, can’t see very well in low light (driving at night etc). 🤷♀️ it’s nice to know I’m not alone in this.

Your new glasses really look great Joel. Both frames are great. It's 14C here in the south of Australia. It's been a cold Winter so far. Lots of snow in the mountains and the ski resorts. When repotting plants mate always water them in with a seaweed solution. It helps to prevent shock and encourages root growth. Good luck with them and I hope they survive.

May be too late but you can get some cutting or rooting powder that will help them grow if you repot them. It works very well.
The plant is a Pepperomia, which root very easily. Perhaps next time re-root in water then plant in soil.

I wonder if you could get the plants to root in room temperature water with a little fertilizer. Put on a sunny windowsill, change the water every 3 days or so until roots develop, then pot in soil.
Joel there is and app for plants that tells you what they need when you take a picture of them with the app

Omigosh, what a great video! We had a bit of everything! Parties, Pride, Picnics, Pups,and Plants. A great book suggestion about something I would love to discover. I'm a landlord myself, I have two cottages on my property that I rent. And, oh brother, I've walked into some disgusting messes. I don't understand how people think it's okay to leave me with such a gross situation after I've been thoughtful, proactive on any problems, and understanding when they had financial problems. But that's how it is I guess. Americans can be incredibly self-involved and entitled. So I'm glad your home wasn't left too horrible. Thanks so much for this fun video and for taking us along. I like your glasses. I also have astigmatism, left eye sux, hence distance issues driving. I ordered two new prescription pairs from GlassesUSA online. 100 bucks for both. One tortoise shell sunglasses women’s large which are too small for my face and one large men’s which are better! I’m a woman btw but I’ve got a big face 🤷♀️ Anyway, who cares! I might look silly but can drive at night now. You look great and regardless, don’t worry! Rock on to both of us! 👏😅

For future reference, just in case you didn't know, foxgloves are poisonous, even to cows. Idk about that other flower. 😊
Maybe Joel explained this in a previous video. But, as usual, my memory is probably playing tricks again... Why not rent the house in London to a single person or a couple for a year long lease? Renting it to itinerant renters (such as students) every 2 or 3 months seems like so much hassle and headache? Is a one year lease to someone "stable" like a single gay man or teacher not legally allowed in London or something? One thing that concerns me is that Joel is subconsciously pulling at his hair all the time. I was going to try to count how many times Joel sweeps his forelock back. But I gave up. Too much counting! It can't help a man keep hold of the hair on top of his head if he is constantly pulling it back. Maybe hair clay, hair gel or hairspray would help. I'm concerned that Joel, over time, will pull the hair out of his head!! 😮😢 Don't do it, Joel! Fix it and forget it. THIS IS NOT A CRITICISM -- JUST AN OBSERVATION FROM A CONCERNED VIEWER AND FAN!! ❤❤❤
Did you miss the part from 30:23 to 30:30 where Joel says the next tenants are renting for a year and they are working professionals, not students? He also says from 30:44 to 30:52, that they might stay for two years or more, but their current contract is for a year.
