I think the part where he was still unconscious when she went in at 4:00 was faked. It seems the emperor wanted to see what she’d do if she was near the scrolls and thought he was still out cold. Physician Jiang understood that and played along. He even looked at her suspiciously at 5:05, as if checking what she was doing. Or maybe I’m reading too much into this and the emperor waking up at just the right time to catch her was just for dramatic effect😂

I think she was only made empress to legitimize Yongyan's ascendance to the throne. Not because Quianlong love her. She died relatively young
She was appointed empress by her son when he was the emperor and not by qianlong.
