The beat is polyrythmic, meaning 2 different beats happening simultaneously, the drums are a 4/4 beat and the guitar and bass are a 12/8, its quite amazing
Remember the time and atmosphere when they created this...disco and punk were raging, Zeppelin were being labeled as dinosaurs, and many critics considered them out of touch. But even with all the internal issues they faced, they managed to flash their brilliance once again by breaking new ground that other bands couldn't even dream of! Rock/Samba? With a foundation of an earthly shuffle beat? Really? Yes...
You hit the nail on the head when you said what more could they have done if Bonzo had not passed away; more than any other band they were not afraid to try any musical genre and place their own stamp on it. They were so innovative and fearless in their experimentations. I love Robert’s playful lyrics and performance and Bonzo’s shuffle; so catchy. Love your reaction 💕
Did you happen to catch the song's lyrical story? It might be hard due to some of Robert's intelligible lyrics. He was standing on a corner waiting for his girl in the rain. She never showed up so he is now brokenhearted. However . . . he finally realizes that he is standing on the WRONG block. So at the end he is now running to the right one. Thus the song's title.
In Through the Out Door is my personal favorite album and Fool in the Rain may be may fav song on it The drum breakdown before the guitar solo is divine perfection. Like that moment at the rave when your drugs kick in and the DJ is blowing up. Your eyes rollback and boom...you're transported. Also it may be the funniest story Plant ever told in a song.
The genius of Led Zeppelin is on full display here. Their style was Led Zeppelin, ever evolving, ever changing and always brilliant. When you listen to Thank You, from 1969, you'll need a box of nose wipes.
This album came wrapped in brown paper & there were several album covers, so you didn't know what you got till you purchased it. Fool In The Rain is my favourite track.
Actually I remember it was a fold out that was all photos of the same scene from the point of view of all the characters, the guy i. the white suit, the bartender, the woman next to the juke box etc.
I always loved this song. The effect on Jimmy's guitar is unusual where you're not sure it's a guitar at first when he starts the solo. One of my favorite solos for sure.
This is such a fun groove with so many parts. The keys sound fantastic, Jimmy used a fuzz/octave pedal which gave his guitar that fuzzy sound in addition to dropping it an octave, plus he also used his 12-string to let some bright, tinkling sounds ring through. The best standout for me was Bonzo with his version of a Purdie shuffle - freaking outstanding! I love the playful lyrics telling the tale of a guy who thinks he's been stood up until he realizes he's been the foolish one waiting on the wrong block. It is a great, summer song for sure.
Loved the comments, as always Henrie. Especially the Purdie comparison. I always thought Bonzo’s performance lifted this song in particular, far more than the great Purdie had done with some of his works. His attack was as always unique and his talents, in my view, were what put LZ in a different place, relative to everyone else. He was one of the very best at setting a groove as their recordings are replete with so many differing ones. But this one stands out in the memory. Like Jeff Porcaro with the “Rosanna” shuffle, both were immensely popular because of the guys behind the kit. Learned much again. Regards
One of my favorites. that is until I hear another song then it becomes my favorite 😍 . Every song takes me to a different place and time. How could you not love Led Zeppelin?
Love this song! who else could ever write and perform this? It is definitely the best on this album btw Page invented the backward or reverse echo effect he plays through in his solo
You hit the nail on the head precisely. The BIG unanswered question, given the glorious material on "In Through the Out Door" is: where would Led Zeppelin take their sound had they had the luxury of continuing. There's no question we get strong hints of that direction on this album. The sound would be more exploratory, diverse, mature and even creative. But, alas, it was not to be. All Zeppelin albums are, in and of themselves, truly masterful. But, the trajectory this band took across just a little over one decade has not been replicated, and for that reason, combined with the masterful, committed performances each member brought to their work, they remain my favorite musical group and the world of popular rock music is changed forever.
Good work on the reactions mate. A little piece of trivia you may not know. The inner sleeve of the album with the bar scene in monochrome would change to colour when dampened.
my eldest brother loved led zeppelin, and he got my into them, and after his Suicide, they helped me be able to cope with life. ill never tire of Zeppelin
Good morning to all. Always look forward to a taste of Zep everyday. Loved the reaction. Same one I had when I first heard it. And this was as they say when they were not at their best. Truly a a band that was the perfect storm. God Bless.
If I could resurrect one of the great musicians from the dead it would probably be Bonzo. For a while it would have been Jimi Hendrix but the thing is that when Bonzo died not only did one of the greatest drummers ever die but so did one of the greatest bands. It’s sad but I’m forever grateful for the amazing music they left us.
First time I heard this I couldn't believe it was Led Zeppelin. Their passion and range of genres is like no other band. The sounds Jimmy makes from his guitar are like none other, something I've never heard before. Page is a genius. Every song sounds different...
My favorite Zep song. Love the tempo changes and even genre changes. Lots of good memories attached to it for me as well. And it is very much a roll the windows down and blast on a drive in the summer song!
Love this track -- Bonham's drumming is absolutely phenomenal. Have a listen to the isolated drums on this track here: ruclips.net/video/lWnhz1ZcF74/видео.html&ab_channel=FenderMan
Ah! The whistle!! Takes me back to Brasil where my family lived for 10 years mid 70's and early 80's I visited 3 times and they got the essence of Samba too! Beautiful song and often played on the radio
Oh yeah, love this track *chefskiss*. This is more laid back and definitely a good drive down the road at a high speed with the windows open type of song.
A lot of people don't like this album because it IS so different but that's exactly why I like it. And yeah, it does make me sad to think what we missed out on because it ended too soon. I would have liked to have heard more music from them along the lines of what they did on this track.
Lead tone derived from a double octave / Fuzz , with a little phase shifter action underneath everything. At that time , (Foxx fuzz/wah) was available.
Zeppelin banger!!! perfectly relevant today!!! Has long been in my top tracks!!! I’m just happy to see that you enjoyed it as much as I said you would!! Everything with this track is on point and I love seeing reactions to Bonzo’s Shuffle…perfect for the summer!! But amazing every day ☮️
The significance of this song bleeds over to the Latin music scene with one of the biggest Rock /Pop Latin bands, Mana recorded a cover of the song in Spanish and it was a huge hit for them
Great song, good reaction, I was playing this song at work maybe 15 years ago and a co-worker of mine showed me a CD she had by a band called Mana. The CD was all covers in Spanish, they did a nice version of this song and I assume the lyrics tell the same story.
I'm not as old as some Zeppelin fans but I pretty much love everything they do. I've heard some complain this song and the album it comes from doesn't rock hard enough. I say get over yourselves and appreciate the difference!!! It may not be the bluesy Zeppelin everyone's familiar with but it's still good Zeppelin. It's the first song I ever heard from them and in my top ten of favorite Zeppelin songs. 💕💕
Thinking about what they could have done further on down the road you have Robert Plants prolific and forever changing back catalogue to dive into an absolute voyage of discovery
That almost sounds like the same sound in Simon and Garfunkel the Boxer. It is Page's guitar, but it sounds like the same sound in the Boxer. In that song it was a baritone Sax.
Salvo, so great to watch you and other young music explorers listen & react to LZ...I was right there with you back in 83' when I discovered them...here's a video you'll enjoy...the great drummer, Jeff Pocaro, explaining how he combined Bonzo's "Fool Rain" beat w/ the great Bernard Purdie's "shuffle"....for his beat in Toto's classic...Rosanna
Keys at the start and end sound like South Africas Dpllae Brand. The midle lke abit fast for Samba.. toward the end i think a synth~guitar. Ruben Blad3s with Willy Colon would be my go tpp for this style. Will dd this to my play list.
Cracking track, I think Page played a Synth guitar on this track, great solo too, Bonham's purdy shuffle beat is stunning, try and find his isolated drum track on RUclips for this song, it's outstanding....
Fool in the Rain was never played live by Led Zeppelin, although Robert did a cool live version with Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam, here: m.ruclips.net/video/CCMkWgIkk3Y/видео.html&feature=emb_logo
The middle portion is the Samba beat. The rest of the song is an infectious groove that has John Bonham laying down a "Purdie Shuffle" beat in 4/4 time and the music on top of it is based on quarter-note triplets giving it a three-over-four feel that is so infectious. Truly one of Bonham's great works. Also, did you catch the punchline at the end where Plant says he was a "fool waiting on the wrong block?" This song is brilliant. I'm guessing part of the reason they never performed this live was because, sadly, John Bonham died not long after this song became a hit and they broke up immediately upon his death. In subsequent reunion performances, it would have been extremely difficult for any other drummer to do this song (though if anyone could, Bonham's son Jason, with whom Zeppelin toured a couple of times after their breakup, could have).
Hahaha I'm Brazilian and never realized this was inspired by samba. Doesn't really sound like samba to me apart from some instruments and syncopated parts. (Don't get me wrong, amazing tune anyways.) If you're interested in samba rock from this period, I'd recommend Novos Baianos group and solo musician Jorge Ben Jor.
As a group of musicians, what music they made has no equal. The quintessential band of all TIMES ..nuff said ☘
You know Zeppelin dear Terry 🙏🙏🙏well said
@@greekadmirer2204 The number 1 band ever in my book.
@@gerhardbraatz6305 110% with you Gerhard , enjoy the rest of your day , I send you my warmest regards 🥰
Here here!!! Totally true!! I swear they were so so ahead of they’re time!!
Yup
The beat is polyrythmic, meaning 2 different beats happening simultaneously, the drums are a 4/4 beat and the guitar and bass are a 12/8, its quite amazing

Rock/Samba? With a foundation of an earthly shuffle beat? Really? Yes...
F the critecs, they slagged LZ for the start.
Absolutely
They stand alone..utter brilliance
You hit the nail on the head when you said what more could they have done if Bonzo had not passed away; more than any other band they were not afraid to try any musical genre and place their own stamp on it. They were so innovative and fearless in their experimentations. I love Robert’s playful lyrics and performance and Bonzo’s shuffle; so catchy. Love your reaction 💕
My favourite song on this album. And one of Bonzo's best drum tracks!
No need to keep being surprised by their greatness. After all, this is The Mighty Led Zeppelin you are listening to. Greatest band EVER!
And I actually did that to my future wife
Agreed. I think that's the irony of the song that many listeners don't seem to grasp. The story is very important.
My favorite LZ song.
words don't describe Zeppelin , only feelings
In Through the Out Door is my personal favorite album and Fool in the Rain may be may fav song on it
The drum breakdown before the guitar solo is divine perfection. Like that moment at the rave when your drugs kick in and the DJ is blowing up. Your eyes rollback and boom...you're transported.
Also it may be the funniest story Plant ever told in a song.
Can’t wait for I’m gonna crawl
This song GREATLY highlights John Bonham's drumming capabilites. one of his best. 👌🏽😍♥️
This is one of the greatest examples of Bonham at his finest

I always loved this song. The effect on Jimmy's guitar is unusual where you're not sure it's a guitar at first when he starts the solo. One of my favorite solos for sure.
He's running his guitar through an effects pedal called an MXR Blue Box, it basically splits the signal into octaves.
Gotta love what they were capable of!! I look forward to your Zeppelin EVERY DAY! Bonzo on those drums!!
As someone who was in their teens to early twenties during Zeppelin's time on the scene, it was a great time.
Enjoy your journey.
the drum track outtake for this is incredible! bonham has no equal
This is such a fun groove with so many parts. The keys sound fantastic, Jimmy used a fuzz/octave pedal which gave his guitar that fuzzy sound in addition to dropping it an octave, plus he also used his 12-string to let some bright, tinkling sounds ring through. This is their most “sumptuous” song- it truly has a magical feel; Bonham is unreal on this
Love this song! who else could ever write and perform this? It is definitely the best on this album

The song 'Fire' hopefully was a hint of what would have possibly come along next.
The drumming and the guitar solo make this my favorite led zep song 🙌🏼❤️🔥
This has some of John Bonham's best Drumming!
The sound of the guitar solo is created by an octave pedal with fuzz on it
MXR Blue Box
Good work on the reactions mate. A little piece of trivia you may not know. The inner sleeve of the album with the bar scene in monochrome would change to colour when dampened.
Led Zeppelin were the greatest bands ever, will always be for me.they were so versatile & inventive. Love ur reactions to them.
This shows JB true mastery!!! I think this has to be my very favorite Zeppelin song! I just absolutely love it!!!
Thank you for the led zeppelin reviews
Enjoying them so much
This song was all over the radio in the 70s
From the start til the very end they had no equal, they still are the real deal in rock bands at the olympus!!
The Bonzo shuffle. Check out the isolated drum track on YT.
Bernard Purdie ?
my eldest brother loved led zeppelin, and he got my into them, and after his Suicide, they helped me be able to cope with life. ill never tire of Zeppelin
Their diversity is why they were and will always be the best rock band ever, because they weren't just a rock band.
Good morning to all. Always look forward to a taste of Zep everyday. Loved the reaction. Same one I had when I first heard it. And this was as they say when they were not at their best. Truly a a band that was the perfect storm. God Bless.
The diversity of Led Zeppelin is pretty much unmatched

John Bonham also plays the xylophone and love Jimmy pages odd tuning on his guitar you don't think it's a guitar but it's an electric guitar!
My personal favorite Zep song. I love music that gets a car full of people grooving
Love this track -- Bonham's drumming is absolutely phenomenal. Have a listen to the isolated drums on this track here: ruclips.net/video/lWnhz1ZcF74/видео.html&ab_channel=FenderMan

One of their best songs for me, I Love the lyrics as well. A bit of the Perdy/Bonham Shuffle..
Yes, this is such a perfect song. It has always been on my favorites from them. Kashmir, Fool in the Rain, In the Evening, Hot Dog. Such a fun album.
This song sounds better each time I listen to it. It's been hundreds of times by now over the last 40 yrs
It did sound so good once again, amazing music they put out
Oh yeah, love this track *chefskiss*. This is more laid back and definitely a good drive down the road at a high speed with the windows open type of song.
All hail the mighty ZEP! My fav band of all time!
This track is a staple on classic rock radio. It & All My Love. I've heard both on my local station in recent days.
Somehow they decoded the genetic construction of peoples moods, and created a song for every possible one! They are timeless, turn-key entertainment!
Showed Zeppelin's range. One of my favorite tunes from them.
In the Evening album is a Masterpiece!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Such a different sounding, crazy awesome song.. Probably my favorite Zep song... Love the whole "In Through the Out Door" album. A Masterpiece!!!
But amazing every day ☮️
The significance of this song bleeds over to the Latin music scene with one of the biggest Rock /Pop Latin bands, Mana recorded a cover of the song in Spanish and it was a huge hit for them
Insanely good! What else can you say for pretty much everything by Zeppelin right!🤙🏽
Salvo, I am enjoying running back through these classic zep songs with you. Thanks!
Love that samba mid section. My favorite off this album.
Great song, good reaction, I was playing this song at work maybe 15 years ago and a co-worker of mine showed me a CD she had by a band called Mana. The CD was all covers in Spanish, they did a nice version of this song and I assume the lyrics tell the same story.
If you listen to Plant's first few solo albums you can hear where he was going musically.
I agree Kent, he should listen to Robert's solo career, there's some damn good music that's a must hear
Love your reaction. Love this song!
Agree.. Awesome album.. Underrated big time
This is one of my very favorites. Makes you feel happy!
When ever you’re in a bad mood, just throw this song on. Works for me!
I'm not as old as some Zeppelin fans but I pretty much love everything they do. I've heard some complain this song and the album it comes from doesn't rock hard enough. For sure
Thanks, one of my favs. 🔥
Ha ha , Quality, I just knew the point you would be blown away . Your reaction was everything I expected , a fantastic song ..😘😘😘🙏🙏🙏
My favorite, but wait there's that one and this one and those ones, an entire Universe of joy and craft.
😎👍GOATS
Caroselambra...carosel like the carnival ride and umbra is how you say it.
Such a great shuffle
That almost sounds like the same sound in Simon and Garfunkel the Boxer. It is Page's guitar, but it sounds like the same sound in the Boxer. In that song it was a baritone Sax.
Love this song. Had the 45.

I should add the rest of the album will blow you away too , such diversity , see you tomorrow 🥰🥰🥰👍
Your welcome, from the greatest rock and roll band of all time!!
Great tune!
My fave LZ song
Hold on! I'm Gonna Crawl is my favorite.
The standout track on the album that just gets better with every hearing.
He was using an Octave Petal for the solo. It plays the same note on two octaves at once. So cool
the song is funny because the whole time the guy in the song was waiting on the wrong corner
Zeppelin disco, complete with whistle.
Well, yeah, because disco evolved from Latin American music. However, for real Zeppelin disco, it's the last 3 minutes of Carouselambra.
Bonzo is drumming the "Purdy Shuffle' made by Bernard Purdy!
toes are tapping, and I'm trying not to fall
Fool in the Rain was never played live by Led Zeppelin, although Robert did a cool live version with Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam, here:

What year was this done?? 90's or later
This was a Hurricane Katrina benefit in 2005.

THAT is Jimmy's guitar!
John Paul Jones and Robert Plant. Johns just got a Yamaha Synthesizer
It is probably one of the most complex pop tunes in history. 🤣
John Paul Jones is way underrated.
As to "what is that?" In the solo, an electric 12 string guitar.
