Wow heck of a video. Super great detail and miles and miles of areas to fish so it's not like you're giving anything away. thanks again

Very good info ! Just found your channel and have been looking for “ other water “ to fish without the crowds. I’m starting to explore the west side of the sierras as I primarily fish on the east side. Dry, dry/dropper looks like the ticket in those sections you fished and I’m sure you could do really well nymphing as well. How much dispersed camping is in the general area? I don’t like camp grounds and close neighbors?
Looks like that water would be perfect for a 3 or 4 wt. setup… what were you using ? Well done 👍🏼

My sense is that there is a huge amount of dispersed opportunities all over that area (I agree, it's the way to go whenever possible). E.g., I think you can camp all along the Preston Falls Trail and when I did some quick sleuthing on line it looks like you can do it by Cherry Lake as well, but I'm sure there's more than that. That said, I didn't easily find anything super clear online in 5 minutes, so I'd give the Groveland Ranger District a call and just ask them (make sure you get a campfire permit!).
A 3wt is perfect for the South and Middle Fork areas, but I'd want to go at least a 4wt and maybe even a 5wt or 6wt for the Main Stem. Dry dropper is always my go-to and should be perfect. A dry would be great if there's a hatch on. Sounds like you are like me and only go to straight nymphing if you have to, and that's what I would do for sure.
Good luck! Have fun and please let me know how it goes!

I especially enjoyed the Middle and South fork sections of the video. Some of my favorite water in the Yosemite area. The lower Rainbow section of the South fork is always fun for a swim and a last bit of fishing after spending time in the high country, though the water often gets too warm to fish during the summer.

It's such a great fishery. Totally one of my favorites too.
