I'm enjoying zvz for the first time in my life. I mean, every race fight, it's good when there are two distinct races bringing their own skills to the battlefield. But this, this is good too.
To be clear, Serral doesn't play by the book. His play looks standard because 'standard' is defined as whatever he happens to be doing in a given period/meta.
By standard, they probably mean Serral play the game straight up, no cheese, no rush, just simply out-macro and has better build. Its like the opponent know what Serral was going to do, and could not do a damn thing about it. That is until Reynor and Clem arrive.
@@tigera6 Could be. Still wouldn't agree though, that's more of a 2018 Serral than today's. He pretty constantly goes pool first, 12pool, 2 base roaches, zergling rush, etc. Even when he goes "all in" (which is a ridiculously overused term) he can sometimes pull it back into a macro game if the timing fails, but to me his play feels at least as varied as every other zerg.
tigera6 teamleague was a different story they knew he was the best player and did their best to throw him softballs. Only in the deciding matches did they throw out their best
@@hctim1 No, it was a random matchup by map, not like the team sent their worst player against Reynor on purpose. And he never lost except for a single cheese by Rogue.

I don’t think it’s serral being any worse. I’d say he might even be a bit better. However other players have learnt to exploit him and have gotten better themselves.
@@maxhoyle7040 One thing I noticed is that he doesn't send very well timed multi pronged attacks and harassment plays like he used to. Well it's my thoughts on it after watching his games over time. He seems to do things more normally these days and the brilliance of his plays like versus maru, innovation, dark, rogue, and stats back in the day has been diminished a bit (and he made them all look like they didn't know what they were doing). He is more doubtful of himself is what I can see in his hesitation in his playstyle now like this one vs Reynor where he did not perform the best moves like he used to because he was not confident enough. But reynor, he is young and hungry for victory. Confident and skilled it's sometimes what differentiates the champions from runner ups. You can also see it when Serral had an upset loss to SoO a year back. He looked very doubtful and he wasn't in a "flow" state very flustered which was very uncharacteristic of him then
@@maxhoyle7040 Well it's definitely possible people got better and adapted, i'm really all about Serral and i've been one his fanboys since then. Korean players are good but they were just usually mechanically good. Serral just showed his understanding was real deep and calculated together with good mechanics which made it an absolute perfect thing to watch. So although I main terran I don't really fancy Maru's playstyle as I find it barbaric and just a brute force approach because his micro is godlike despite multiple gsl wins. Reminds me of marineking prime back in the day. Maru was still a small little kiddo back then lol. All games look normal now

If you look at Serral's twitter he also admitted earlier that his state of mind is different from what it used to be. His lose against Clem today also shows that. It really show's he's at a battle with himself rather than the other players learning how to beat him
@@Michael-bc3es Clem will get his shot in the coming Global Season. His group is quite do-able and he should come out as 1st or 2nd place. Serral group is brutal however.

Serral played the most beautiful SC2 i've ever seen. But that was 2 years ago, the Serral now is still insanely good but it's not the same
