Popcorn Sutton was probably one of the coolest guys to ever walk the planet.I have watched this documentary like 4 times now and it still entertains the hell out of me.RIP Popcorn Sutton glad you shared some of your life with us
i am 52 years old and this was the best ever show i have ever seen in my life time ....thank you mr popcorn sutton...i love you and your whole family like we were brothers ...thank you sir popcorn
7.6K Views just don't seem enough for a legend like this! My grandfather knew Popcorn, never knew my grandfather was a shiner until a few years ago when I came across his old still site on his property, sadly I was never passed down the knowledge.
Popcorn looked like he was suffering from cancer at the end. There was almost nothing left of him. He was a cool guy. It would have been fun to know him. RIP
i just want to say thanks , this choked me up a little, good ol boys, and nations pride are hard to come by these days, theses were a few of the good ones , lovin america , fightin for freedom livvin, for freedom , and rather anyone likes it havin a drink to celebrate your freedoms. God bless the good ol boys. P.O.W M.I.A respect, love , unity.
Sir, you are a master at trade! Truely, one of the most fascinating, interesting, and most informational video I’ve seen in a while. I really enjoyed listening to your stories too. Thank you for making this video. My hats off to you sir, and I am now inspired to try myself
i always thought this guy was in his 70s~80s. the way he talked about stuff. born in 46 he had 6 yrs. on me. good case of ridin hard n put away wet too many times. btw... moonshiners brought me here.
Aww r.i.p popcorn i watched a few videos and you were such a lovely man very interesting man i loved your old ford car and your liquor moonshine hard times back then and moonshine fed your family clothed you all we got to do what we got to do. And you did god bless your family ❤️❤️❤️❤️ what did he pass from
First time I ever seen mr Popcorn sutton. And I like to say Thank you sir for makin this here video. The skills and experience showen here are a life time of learning. you ain't never gonna be able to make it like this ever again. He's clearly one of the best to ever do it, pun intended . I cant be more happy i spent the time to watch this.
I'm sat in my chair in the UK drinking a shot of popcorns white whiskey that I ordered myself for Christmas and I'm watching RUclips stories of popcorn and jim tom and feeling pretty good and sad at the same time because I've just watched popcorns eulogy on RUclips and it's hit me pretty hard
don't worry pops this movie about shining spawned an ongoing series Thats gone on over a decade now nearly and they do the quality shine like yourself and many like me really appreciate the ingenuity y'all fellows from the depression era like my grand dad really came up with Rip popcorn many Thanx
That 75 year old model A Ford is in a hell of a lot better shape than my 2000 Pontiac grand am. Did you see that old rust bucket go through that mountain road? Drove right fuckin through it. I went through a gravel back road and broke my fuckin muffler. Sure don't make them like they used to...
Also, you notice at around 1:19:00 on he starts talking about tempering, saying that if you temper with backings, which is still liquer, just not as strong a proof by far, you end up with more liquer - its like mixing it with weaker liquer basically, rather than water. It all depends on the product you want - You might want drinking liquer, or medicine liquer. you might want it for the taste of shine, or for getting drunk - It just depends on the proof you want in the end. hope this helps!
Excluding the filmmaker of course, every person in this film is sadly passed away except for J.B Rader and Abigail. Popcorn, Bill Milsaps the guy singing, Floyd Sutton the tempering guy, the 2 guitar pickers Cookie Woods, his wife, and Gene Morefield. All gone. Even James Carver from the Maggie Valley restaurant is gone as well. Rip to all
Hi I have a question for the recipe of rye or 6 kg 3.5 kg 0.5 kg of corn and barley malt as water and yeast to give greetings recipe george washington
I really appreciate your work. This video made me cry. Such a wonderful man. Stayed to.himself..never minded others business. But some low down haten piece of 💩 snitched on this man. R.I.P. POPCORN
Amanda Dalton yes this man committed suicide in 2009 the day before he was supposed to surrender himself to the federal authorities to be locked up again from an older charge he had lost on an appeal someone told me. so he drove his old car up on the mountain, found a place to park and got out and fashioned a waterhose into his tail pipe, then ran it into the car window and closed himself up in it. he was dying of cancer anyway, and had stated he didn't want to die in jail, so thus, he killed himself.
Anyone thats ever drank the lightning knows what I am about to say/ask, how come store bought liquor even ever clear does not give you the feel good effect like home made liquor? there is a fer sure difference in the effects feel good wise, so what is being taken out or added to cause this, anyone know? I have wondered this since I was 17 years old and tasted that sweet sweet water
Popcorn always said that he had made his last run of liquor...it was to keep the law away and people would buy his liquor thinking they were gettin a drink of the last run, but that was just a selling point...smart move
When its 180 proof not blended with water, its not only rather strong, its a bit bitter. It has to blended a certain way, to get the proof you want. Not *all* of the shine will be tempered with water, but most of it will. The numbering is so you know at a glance how high a proof it is so you know what jars to blend and when.
I got to try a shot of some of his stuff a few years ago and it was smoother than any vodka or other moonshine I've ever had... too bad the recipe he left behind can't seem to be replicated exactly
They put him in jail for trying to make a living the only way he could while a lot of people sit on their ass wanting on food stamps and a check from the government.... now what's wrong with that picture
Totally agree. The question is, whats wrong with the system? As long as they can collect taxes, they are fine with what you do. But, if they can't take co trol over what or how much you shine, you'll be haunted by them...
Those are half gallon jars. If you look, around 1:17:18 you will see them sit it next to a 1 Liter water bottle, and it is considerably larger. A quart jar would be shorter than a 1 Liter water bottle (but a little fatter). The jars in this movie are both fatter and taller than the water bottle. Hope this helps those who were wondering.
Yes let's tow the line like good lemmings. Not every law is just and well-founded, some are bullshit and put in place to try and keep the common man from getting ahead.
Popcorn Sutton was probably one of the coolest guys to ever walk the planet.I have watched this documentary like 4 times now and it still entertains the hell out of me.RIP Popcorn Sutton glad you shared some of your life with us

1:10:52 about the 6th time I've heard "Anybody want a cold Pepsi?"
"I'll take one" 😂
Popcorn always said that he had made his last run of liquor...it was to keep the law away and people would buy his liquor thinking they were gettin a drink of the last run, but that was just a selling point...smart move

Popcorn had a still in a shack behind his house, guess he ran out of moonshine!
Would like to follow in his footsteps. Can't find a job, till now......
