    So... why don't they keep the 'floating dock' attached to the jetty?

    • @SailingZatara
      @SailingZatara  Год назад +40

      Because when south winds come, the waves will slam up against it (perpendicular). But when we move it (parallel to the southern wind and waves) they’ll just roll on over it. I’m sorry, I should’ve explained it better in the vid!

      I was curious how it stayed up that long in one go. I thought most DJIs have about a 30 minute tops.. seems like that dock movement would take more than 20 to 30 minutes.

    Just one comment @14:50. I'm so happy to hear a whistler. I'm the oldest of 3 girls. I'll be 60 on 2/26. And my handsome, funny, comedic, musical, 1938 Father(Bob) RIP and my Granny(Ann)RIP were both awesome whistlers. As well as my 5 Aunt's, cousins and my 2 sisters, and his 3 gbabies that are grown. He was the only boy. And of course it whistled down to us. I love to whistle. No matter where I'm at. It is the next best thing to singing. They both come from the heart. Because sometimes someone may whistle along. Hugs from Texas sweeties 😎 Keep on keepin on.

    I just can’t thank you enough for the enjoyment of being a part of your adventures! I am especially am enjoying the familiar sights in the Gulf of Aqaba Sea, which I saw in 1991. I got out my Israel album to remember that wonderful trip! One of my favorite parts was going in the elevator into the Underwater Observatory and Aquarium. The beautiful coral reefs were amazing! We stayed at the Cesar North Beach hotel in Eilat which had a Bedouin living room( laying down rather then sitting in chairs)! Another amazing experience was staying in at El Salaam Bedouin Hotel on the Sinai desert , then climbing Mt. Sinai, leaving at 2 AM with a full mom and arriving in time to watch the sunrise.

    @Daz30 Год назад +3

    I like the part where the kids were asked what they would do. Perhaps this happens more off camera than we know? but I think that is good for them to be grilled with what they would do and why because what if in future there is an emergency or two or a serious accident on board and they need to be able to make decisions on their own.
    Actually it would be a fun episode where you guys role play a simulated situation where the young adults have to make the decisions to resolve the whatever occurred, as if the parents weren't there. Also it would be part drill.
    Keith could be the instructor/referee (much like a Game Master in a Table-top RPG) relaying the simulated situation, answering questions they ask and asking questions himself and perhaps increasing the drama where needed, 'oh while this is happening- now this breaks' or whatever goes.
    I could see this as interesting film material that perhaps could be filmed once or twice a season and also would be good experience for the young adults to take it seriously (and not ham it up on camera) and try to problem solve or think on their feet with what they know or have been told in the past. You guys might already do drills from time to time? but making it an entire video could be educational for others on the water.

    I've visited and lived in Israel a few times, the real struggle isn't for land or religion but humus, falafel, and swarma. bitterly contested. the best swarma probably Arabic in Haifa although this was a few years ago. I've had fantastic falafel in tel aviv and Jerusalem at Jewish stands. humus, both peoples make a beautiful humus and wonderful salads. party trance nightclub and market, beach in tel aviv, the quiet wind of Masada, Ein Gedi and the chaotic magnificence of Jerusalem. i lived on Kibutz Alonim, and Moshav Neot HaKiKar truly different life experiences. have a great journey and travel Israel for awhile ideally a few months rather than weeks..

    Quick Tip from Charlie
    who ran a 100ft baltic barque;
    always drop a bowline on the dock cleat
    &adjust lines safely aboard in the dark.
    And when you set them just right
    you can even sail right off them
    in the still of the night.

      It could also be that once grocery stores reach a certain size (ie, a supermarket) then the needs of stocking, storing, and shopping dictate that only a small range of configurations are going to work well. A few companies may truly rule the world, but similar shopping experiences may not be evidence of that.

    The only time
    I'd EVER tie
    to a marina cleat
    is if I thought I'd "die"
    on the hook,
    on a ball,
    or lashed with chain
    to some rocky wall.
    A marina's for those
    who like buying roses
    instead of using the rose
    on their chart.
    As a Skipper you know
    when SHTF & it starts to blow

    Instead of rewiring your shore power connection you should pick a common connector for the shore end and buy a bunch of the mating connectors and install a foot or two of wire on them and whenever you need a different connection you can buy one and make adapters without having to modify the main shore power cord.
    On most all of my miller welders the end simply unscrews from the cord and I can screw on whatever connector I want. I don't know if it already exists but someone needs to come up with a universal shore power cord system that has interchangeable connectors and all the marinas could sell them to boat owners.
