I’m older than you. 20yrs ago RUclips was YOU tube. It was abt a person in front of a camera presenting themselves and their ideas. It was so much better back then. It was organic and slow and focused. No pressure or selling or editing anything. People would record from their messy sofa or kitchen or bedroom.

I'm a 77 year old woman too. I think you are great. You Tube has offered so much, but you also show your talent. Buying rentals for your future and working at home on You Tube. How wonderful is that you can be at home working, reading books, drinking coffee, editing etc. But you are with your wife, your little girl & a new one coming. No rat race mess by going to the office, driving in bad weather, etc. You have a wonderful life. Keep it up. We love you!!

When I first started my channel, I was under the assumption that growing a team and wanting millions of subscribers is the "right" way to do RUclips. After making videos for the last couple of years and being able to take it full-time with a smaller audience, I finally understand that to me personally, success doesn't lie in a bigger team and more profit, it really lies in loving the process of creating and that's my goal from here on out. Don't grow too quick, but enjoy the journey and make this as sustainable as possible.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this Gabe! Super interesting to get to hear your perspective on it as someone I've watched for a few years at this point. Keep killing it! 👊🏼

I'm actually happy you're going to simplify things. Sometimes vids can feel overproduced and often lose "you" in their message. None of us care about fancy graphics or edits. We like what you're saying. Your content. I'd rather have 1 video every two weeks solely done by you than you wasting your money and energy hiring a staff to just have more videos. It's impossible to keep that up long term. More power to you. You are not an idiot by any means. One of the smartest people I watch. You've built a life outside of the traditional 9 to 5 job. That really is very difficult and admirable.

I just discovered you this past weekend and you have impacted both my husband and myself. We dedicated the weekend to minimizing (used to be a minimalist for most of my life, but we went thru a rough start when we were on our own and bought our home, so for us we feared going without because of that and it cluttered our storage areas- closets, drawers, etc. and it drove me bonkers and it became hard for us. Then add 2 little ones and then sentimental keepsakes turned to 2-3+ boxes per kid saved and now I've gotten it down to one per kid (albeit still full, it's improving and will continue to once I continue the box method in one of your videos)). We utilized 20 under 20 with anything contemplated saving just in case, we threw away/recycled 5 xlarge toter bins to the curb on garbage day and I filled up another the day they were emptied and brought back up the driveway ahahaha. Still going. Any tips when it comes to saving childrens items (especially sentimental first years items?) Please keep sharing your perspective, it's been really validating in the most difficult times of purging 😂😂😂

      @GabeBult  4 месяца назад

Congrats on making so much progress! I honestly don't have much problem getting rid of sentimental things cuz I have never looked or seen other people look at things that are 10 years old of their kids but I know some people just take pictures of them so they can still remember or try putting it in storage for a year and see if it impacts your life at all

Hi Gabe, I understand completely what you are talking about. I saw a video of yours a few years ago and I couldn’t wait to tell my young adult children about you and asked them to subscribe to your channel. I love your simple approach to what you do. I remember when you were just starting and didn’t have any sponsors, and now you have a few… good for you😊 I am a nurse practitioner with a lot of compassion for the industry that I work in. Good for them, if they are able to do it. This is unrelated but similar, but I've been teaching English in Hanoi for about eight years and I always used to teach 7 days a week, morning afternoon and evening, and I loved doing it so much, but I was starting to get so burned out. At the end of last year I felt like making a big change and majorly cut down my schedule, and it's been so amazing spending January mostly just working a couple of hours in the afternoon and spending most of my time on my bicycle or at home. I was really attached to my old ways, and I still feel some guilt about having so much free time now (and obviously my income is a lot lower now), but it's just been really great for me in many ways. I think the moment you start to feel any kind of burn out, it's super good to take a step back and see if you'd be able to scale down and give yourself some breathing room.

I started making RUclips videos in 2016, and now I have 33,000 subscribers. RUclips was a hobby for me; whenever I learned a new song or a cool riff on the ukulele or guitar, I would grab my camera and record it-on the sofa in our living room, sometimes in the garden. I always received many views for it. I never wanted to make money from my videos; I just enjoyed how many people were interested in my music. In recent years, it has become increasingly difficult to get views. I tried to keep up, post weekly, but it's challenging to be passionate about making music when you have to produce videos like an assembly line to keep the clicks coming in. I didn't touch my ukulele for a year because I was so burned out. That's why I quit.

I don't consider myself a "RUclipsr" - but as you said, you can help people even with the simplest videos. I made a couple of videos about moving to Dublin, Ireland for work, and a lot of people told me that it had helped them. I haven't posted anything for a long time (and probably won't in the future) - but I completely understand how an obsession with numbers can kill one's passion.
I'm currently reading "The Storyteller's Secret", and you style reminded me of one of the secrets:
"Storytellers who capture the public's heart are passionate about their message and they share that content in simple, approachable language. Video has become an essential component of delivering a story. Successful storytellers embrace the medium in a personable, friendly style that makes the viewer feel as though they're having a one-on-one conversation with the speaker."

I don’t ‘do’ RUclips but I have learned so much from those who do. And also overwhelmed myself in other areas. I've never been happier for a video. I have been returning to your videos for years but something changed awhile ago where I kinda feelt your videos became produced. Still in your style but not as fantastic as the used to be & so raw. Hearing this, I think you will continue to do what we started falling you for & why we keep coming back. I can't wait to see you continue doing you & continue to support exactly that.

I feel at times I really wanted to try and grow our channel but as I look back I'm glad we took it easy and just had fun with our channel and never took it too seriously. This was really helpful! As a new RUclipsr myself, I really needed to hear this. I've had my own online business for about a decade, but I've just started to get into RUclips and really branch out. It's easy for us to forget about helping people, and doing what we love. It's too easy to get caught up in the rush of gross, and forget about the main point.

    Hi Gabe!
I total understand your struggle with RUclips.
What do you think about keep developing your other businesses/ideas and posting videos on YT when you feel like it?
What I mean is that I know à few creators who have been slowing down and they seem to be in a better place, with less pressure.
No matter what you decide, I will be there cause your content is SO DAMN IMPORTANT and genuine.
    Sending you love,
    Diana
