Is the "cotton" filling in the jewelry boxes recyclable? All the boxes I've seen come with a 100% polyester filling that is very difficult to recycle (as in it is totally possible but no where I know of accepts that kind of material.)
I get the natural, eco-friendly version of these boxes made in the USA with real cotton, so it should be compostable. I'll try to confirm, but what I own is way less fluffy and spongey and does not look like typical jeweler's cotton, so I sure hope that it's not polyester. If not, I'll start ordering them without it because it's so thin, that I always have to put tissue paper in my jewelry boxes anyways to keep things from moving.
Update: EcoEnclose now sells jewelry boxes that you assemble yourself and don't come with an insert. I use a small piece of tissue paper to hold everything in place which I order from them as well. All made from 100% recycled paper!
I put anything like stickers and prints in glassine prior to putting them in the envelopes. The EcoX mailers from EcoEnclose are a little more water resistant than the rest of the mailers. But honestly, I've shipped thousands of packages in paper based mailers and nothing has ever been soaked or even soaked through to the point that anything is damaged. The shipping carriers are really good at making sure stuff doesn't get rained on and if most of your shipments fit in a mailbox, it's pretty much never a concern. If it's a big box that could be left at someone's front door on a rainy day, then definitely put everything in glassine since it's still paper based but has water resistance.
Don't be too hard on yourself, starting small business is not an easy thing, also there is no 100% eco- friendly solution for a packaging. I dream of opening my own store too, so I was looking into packaging options and turned out, that to recycle a paper bag takes 97% more energy and resourses than to recycle a standard plastic bag made from recyclable plastic. Not to mention that some paper packaging requires usage of harmful chemicals in the process of its creating. There is also so much desinfrormation going on with companies trying to sell their products as eco-friendly and charging more than they should for them. It seems that the best solution so far is to use as little packaging as possible (while still making sure that product is safe of course) and to use materials, that every customer can easily recycle. Even if it is made of plastic. Anyway, best wishes on your small business journey:)) And sorry for my broken english😅
@@kettyandkitty great information! Reducing, reusing, recycling, and composting are definitely the best things we can try to do. Hopefully in the future there will be a perfect way to ship everything that doesn't consume so much energy or cause harm to the environment.
@@TanaMakes Thank you! I absolutely agree and also hope that in the future there will be better options. There are many smart people in this world, I'm sure some day we will have a solution. Love your videos!:)
can you share where the kraft jewelry boxes are from? :)
