Hi!!! My husband and I just used your two part tutorial and successfully changed out the fork seals and fluid on his v-strom after 60k miles 😱 very needed!
Your video was such a compliment to the service manual. Thanks for making such a friendly and thorough video.

An excellent tutorial, well done. Had to do my 2014 a little while ago and there's about 6 for the 650 but I think this is the only one for the 1000 with it's inverted shocks and it's quite different. Had to manufacture a tool of a tube with welded nuts for bolts to slide the spring down. Got it all done and when finished had 2 leaking forks instead of one. Improvement? Turned out the chrome had warn and the shocks needed to be re-chromed ($$$). A good learning experience and I'd wished to have had your video when doing it, so hopefully it'll help others. Good on you for doing it.

How do you know you got the correct fluid? Have you done this prior to this and does it feel the same as stock? The manual states “recommended product or Specification
SUZUKI FORK OIL L-01.” It’s so confusing with labeling, it makes it next to impossible to find a conversion chart. From what I found online is that it’s closer to a 7wt and the only brand I see that carry 7wt is BelRays. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks!

If you google fork oil viscosity chart, you will see which oils and weights are compatible.

OMG my dealer wants $500 (parts included) to do this. Thanks to you, I might be able to get it done for about $150 in parts plus $60 in tools. I have a 2018 V-strom 1000 and a 2018 Versys 1000, so it will all likely get used a second time, plus I have friends with similar bikes. But I want to verify the tools I'l need to see if I missed anything. I hope the procedure is the same for a 2018 Strom. Anyway, please see the list below
    1. Traxxion Fork Spring Compressor Kit
    2. Motion Pro 43mm Fork Seal "Bullet"
    3. 43mm Fork Seal Driver (Amazon, from China) or do I have to get the Motion Pro one for twice the price?
    Anything missing?
Thank you for your hard work in putting this video together. I'm subscribing.

That sounds correct, I haven't verified the the fork diameter on the 2018 strom, but I'm sure you have. Amazon fork seal driver will work fine.

Quick question for you: mostly used as a touring bike, how often should I expect to have to replace fork seals on this machine? I have the same 2015 model that I bought used with 23k miles on in 2020. Had to replace the right fork seal in 2021. This year, the left one is now leaking.

It's really hard to say, I've seen seals last 15 years, but it just depends on how much you ride, where you ride, how clean you keep the fork tubes etc.
You might be able to use one of those seal mates to clean the seal, it works most of the time if It's just dirt. If it's a nick in the fork tube, and has gouged a groove in the seal then you'll have to replace the seal.
