  • Today's unboxing review isn't your typical review. Let's call it a special edition episode. Although this car may have started life out as a 1966 Chrysler Imperial, the Black Beauty is a heavily modified, crime-fighting version of that big, V8-powered sedan.
    Our hero, The Green Hornet, who is chauffeured around by his loyal partner/driver, Kato, is a masked crime fighter who infiltrates criminal gangs in order to bring them down. The police, however, consider the pair to be outlaws. Sounds like that'd be a cool TV series or movie, right? Well, it was both. The original TV show aired for only one season, 1966-67, while the big screen adaptation came out in 2011. The Black Beauty was featured in both. This particular Black Beauty is owned by Darren Monteverde, who commissioned the build because he's a huge fan of the original TV show. Enjoy the special review!
    Special thanks to Darren Monteverde and StarCarCentral: starcarcentral.com

    I didn't watch the show much as a kid (hooked on Batman), but one of the coolest sights I've ever seen is when the Black Beauty pulls away with a camera view from the rear...it's like the person in the rear of the car is totally hidden, and you immediately know that he is someone super important or totally unknown.

      No offense, but you are incorrect in the point you were trying to make? The Imperial was the top of the line model developed, and manufactured by Chrysler to compete with other top automotive brands such as Cadillac, and Lincoln. That is why it is called a "Chrysler Imperial". I collect hood ornaments as well, and this design is one of my favorites.

    The IMPERIAL was not A '' Chrysler". It was the product of the separate IMPERIAL DIVISION of Chrysler Corporation from 1955 on. The "Chrysler" name appeared NOWHERE on the car....nor did it carry the VIN number of a Chrysler.
    All Chrysler models ( New Yorker, 300, Newport, etc, ) carried a "C" make code on their VIN number. IMPERIAL did NOT.
    It's "make" code was "Y". which was the "make" code for all IMPERIAL models (Custom, Crown, LeBaron, Ghia Limousine)
    If the IMPERIAL was a "Chrysler", it too would have had a "C" make code...but it DID NOT.
    Thus, it was NOT a Chrysler, but a SEPARATE MAKE.

    Very nice and almost original copy. I spotted the grill is different than the original BB. I would spend some money and clean up that engine. It is the only sore spot on what is a great looking reproduction. I wish for all the world it was mine. I am a huge Hornet fan. The movie sucked big time. I waited 40 years for them to make a Green Hornet movie and all we got was crap. I was looking at the grill and it bothered me. The original BB had refined pointed grill and this car's grill is flat. I am surprised the owner didn't notice that when it was put together. To be so technically accurate about so much and not get this right is strange.

      Also that's not the green hornet emblem in the middle of the steering wheel, it's the standard Imperial emblem. I used to drive a 67 Imperial.
      Btw, it was green ;) and fun to drive with that huge engine. Had a footswitch to scan the radio dial. It was the largest production car on the road at the time. Felt like it took up the whole lane.

    Where's the chrome accents? The 1966 show the hood had a centered short strip of chrome and down each side chrome trim ran the length of the car. Chrome must have been removed when someone painted it gloss... the tv car was semi-class for stealth reasons. Also, aluminum accent around the door windows is missing. There should not be a glove box, that should flip down to show scanners and more high tech controls. Looks good but he has a ways to go before it's screen accurate.

    How is the door glass closed and if it is closed, how can it it opened since there no door handle on the outside.. Then again, is it bullet proof, what about air conditioned??? Finally, what is the cost??

    • @carbuzzcom
      @carbuzzcom  7 лет назад

      The door handles are on the inside. You really think a replica is bullet proof? Not sure about the total cost of the job, however, but it was anything but cheap.

    • @michaelfalke2974
      @michaelfalke2974 7 лет назад

      The doors on the real Black Beauty are electrically activated. Either Van Williams or someone off camera with the remote activated it when necessary. From the inside they used the standard door handles.

    • @majordickhardin7746
      @majordickhardin7746 6 лет назад

      Real, bullet resistant, windows are 2"+ thick. The Suburban I drove in Albania was an Ogara and Hess construction. The only windows that could roll down were the front ones...and that was only about 4" down because the glass is too thick to fit inside the door as it goes down. So...no...not practical to put real bullet resistant glass in a Hollywood car. I say bullet resistant because, the window will still break and with enough rounds fired on the same spot, will eat their way through.

    Not a great replica. None of the authentic (fake) bells and whistles of the original. The scanner being in the trunk--and not able to come up THROUGH the trunk, the lack of any moving parts (rockets) on the front grille, etc. Unacceptable. At some point the narrator asks the viewer to imagine machine guns emerging from the rear of the car. How about actually creating/installing fake versions back there? I know it's a private fan's version, but if you're going to do it, do it right. Google online and find a video of the man who owns one of three Black Beautys used by the original television production. His car was used by the TV show as a touring car for promotional and marketing occasions, and it has all the goodies of the other two that appeared in he TV show.
