@@jayc147 Yesterday, I watched a 1987 foreign documentary about Korea. It was already pretty advanced back then, especially the capital. We should be even more impressed by how the Korean people rebuilt their country to that level from total destruction, in less than 30 years. I don’t care how much foreign capital they got. The previous generations of Koreans did it with sweat and blood, literally.
Correct - wouldn't even last a day in some neighborhoods. Wonder why we in many other parts of the world can't have the convenience of these automated stores and generally nice things like this?
Sure they have cameras so if you steal, you may get caught. In other countries, you may have some girl at the till. They won't be able to stop anybody from stealing anyway so the situation is not much different in the end.
Okay but if you put an "automated store" in Italy, I swear to God they will even steal the doors if they can. The difference is huge. Here YOU DON'T TRUST PEOPLE because they will try everything they can to steal if they can save some euros. There was a famous "attenzione pickpockets" TikTok warning of pickpocketers in the subway, obviously that was from Milan, Italy. Because we simply don't have that culture of respect
I was amazed to see unmanned newspaper stands in Switzerland where people just took one and put the coins in a box that was right there, available to anyone if they wanted to steal it. Or a 24/7 Żabka (convenience store) in Poland where, before being able to open the door, you had to put your credit card and your phone number, then you were able to enter, grab anything you wanted, and leave without having to scan the items as the cameras picked up the items you got... Japan takes it a step further, where you don't even need to put your credit card, people TRUST that you will not steal and pay everything that you bought. Here, I tell you, this would never work
@@kukukhan-q1o It’s not because CCTV will become more prevalent that it’s a good thing. It’s sad to see what society has become because surveilling people has nothing to do with trust, it’s the exact opposite. The historical reason why people have guns in the U.S. is that they are considered the last line of defense against an abusive government.
CCTV doesn't directly translate to lack of trust at a societal level. Even before CCTV was widespread in Korea, the crime rate was still lower than in other countries, so that invalidates your entire point. It is useful not only for catching criminals but also for documenting incidents and accidents. The key point is that, fundamentally, humans cannot always be trusted because there will always be a few bad apples. CCTV helps deter such individuals from misbehaving and in a way protects normal civilians. As long as the system does not negatively surveil the majority of people, and clear laws are in place to regulate its use, it can be beneficial. This approach works well in Korea, but in other countries, it may be less effective depending on local laws. Therefore, CCTV itself is not inherently bad; it is the way it is implemented and executed that matters. It's the same line of thinking with guns, guns are not inherently bad - but the way people are going to abuse them are what makes them bad, they cannot be fundamentally trusted.
It is not much to do with cctv. USA have cctv also. Difference is that people don't give a shi@ and still steal. I got my laptop stolen in the starbucks in the daylight in US.

I wish we could have places like this in the U.S. but alas we are not trustworthy.
Will never happen
you did before you let the third world in
Import the 3rd world become the 3rd world
We could be, but limiting freedoms for people is classist, racist, sexist, etc so we probably won't.
Absolutely - seeing a society (Korea) where automated stores exist angers me on why this cannot exist back home.
As a Korean American, I 'm shocked how much Korea has progressed in 40 yrs.
It is quite remarkable - gotta give the older generation their props

Interesting contrast with Korea's political chaos right now.
High trust places can still have very corrupt gov. That's because trusting fellow ppl is not the same as trusting the government
No blacks and Hispanics. Simple.
Simply stated and true.

Korea had low rates of crime prior to CCTV. Also, where in the West could there be unmanned stores? It ain't the same, sir.
@@solongoskorea8225It is absolutely the same thing. If South Korea were a high trust society there wouldn't be any SECURITY cameras.

These stores are kind of all the same with different products in them. It's kind of creepy!
