I wasn't so offended by the content of FRANKENHOOKER but more so offended by the content not ever being fully explored, it's lack of justification, or depth in narrative, and inconsistent logic left it feeling meaningless. THAT IS WHAT primarily bothers people! But how do you make sense of a senseless film. The film’s unclear narrative was as clumsy as Bella Baxter's first steps, as loosely connected and non seamless as Godwin's face and as awkwardly put together as a Frankenstein's Monster. THE FACT THAT the DEFIANTLY INDEPENDENT BELLA ALLOWS A FEMALE MADAME DWARF TO RULE & ABUSE HER a lot for much of the film, negates all the heavy MISOGYNISTIC messaging that's being exploited! REMEMBER, no matter who knows it in the film, we know it's a child being exploited! Thanks GODwin! Then out of nowhere she meets her Father (not shock and awe but confusing), who she doesn't know, kills him & with the FEEBLE young man who she's NEVER really LOVED that operates on others in the same manner that CREATED HER. WTF?!!! Hypocritical!!! and the GOAT! WHY? I left the theater unsympathetic to any of the characters nor the convoluted contradictory unresolved plot lines. Disappointing experience yet I am more upset with the poor things in the audience who say they enjoyed it. I suspect they enjoyed the pretty visuals with no interested in the details of the flawed story's narrative which was nonsensical and a non-cohesive mess! ! I view the mainstream praise as a reflection of our times where superficiality vs substance has become the norm. If there's enough surface glitter, lip filler, butt padding & marketing ferocity then there's a good chance of success. We live in a world where Taylor Swift the greatest entertainer of all time YET no matter how cheerleader pretty, young, intelligent & sweet she is, she's far from being the most gifted innovative artist of a lifetime. But I digress, But that's my comparative analogy of what is accepted are art these days. Maybe many of your viewers are young or have few experiences seeing truly surreal & visually imaginative films. Watch ANY Terry Gilliam film, Guillermo del Toro's recent "THE SHAPE of WATER" is a beautiful dark fairytale & even more so are Pierre Jeunet's "THE CITY of LOST CHILDREN" "Delicatessen" & especially "AMELIE". Even the scary "The Wizard of OZ" with it's old groundbreaking visual effects, b/w to color transition, fantastical scenery, strange characters, fairytale heroes and villains has more drama, intrigue, adventures, excitement and a complex seamless comprehendable storytelling (SPOILER: without the sexual abuse) than Poor Things!

WOW. That's quite an interesting analysis of the movie. This is a movie that will surely be remembered for the visuals, performances and a different concept. Yes its very weird and most people will not feel any sympathy for the characters and I also mentioned that this will only appeal to a very niche audience due to its weird storytelling.

@@Thefilmyfamily786 Yes it very well might be remembered but there have been equally groundbreaking hyper-surreal visually imaginative films with philosophical concepts that are by far better at also presenting seamless well conceived stories in the form of fairytales or sci-fi fantasy. And you as you noted, like this film they are often praise mostly by a niche audience. I guess what I object to is the fact that those films often didn't receive as much deserved hype & accolades as Poor Things. Yet somehow it's being considered as groundbreaking when narratively I find it quite flawed. MY guess is that many people haven't seen other films of this nature so it is viewed as being unique. I found his odd style more convincing in the film The Lobster

You have completely nailed it, yes there are several movies that are far superior that goes completely unnoticed and yes as a movie lover that has made me very sad at times, but post the pandemic there has been hardly any movies or a very few that can be called an actual masterpiece, and I really hope that we will get to see some good quality movies by the end of 2024.

It’s a weird but great movie ? Are you saying it’s weird coz it’s got too many sexual scenes that most people won’t be comfortable with ? Are you saying it’s great coz it’s unique and provocative ? That’s all it takes ? Make a movie with sex scenes for every 2 minutes and use brilliant lighting, costumes and set design and people like you will call it a great movie ? Come on bro.. use your brain.. the movie is utter bullshit and it sold well coz audience like fetishised concepts on big screen making it okay to watch it.. also actors gave a very poor performance all around.. you don’t have to say its great just coz its different.. at least justify your review..

First, let's get something straight: this movie was not a box office success, so it definitely didn't sell well. Yes, it got nominated for a lot of awards, but it only appealed to a very niche audience. It's a great movie because the writer and director had the courage to think outside the box and create something different, and no, it's not because of the sex scenes but because of the whole plot of how a child's brain works and how women are ill treated in general. The director portrayed these relevant issues in a unique way, and it's quite understandable that most people didn't connect with the movie. As I pointed out in my review, it's not a movie for everyone. Yes, it made me very uncomfortable at times, but the issues raised in the movie are very relevant, and the director has done a fine job of portraying them in his own dark way. As far as the performances are concerned, I feel they were outstanding, and that's something mostly everyone has agreed on.

@@Thefilmyfamily786 how does exploring how a child’s mind works add value to the larger themes the movie has tried to address ? How is putting a child’s mind in an adult’s body unique ? Maybe I am simple minded.. or maybe the movie tried so hard to seem unique that it lost all perspective.. courage is in trying to take a divisive issue and presenting it in the simplest way possible.. addressing feminism in a quirky setting with sex slapped on it is not courage.. certainly not out of the box.. the movie was completely disconnected.. Bella was not really empowered in any way.. and exploring sex is not the only way women learn to be empowered.. and I am a feminist myself.. the movie was more degrading than anything else.. Emma stone is a fine actress but in this movie her performance was forced and awkward at best.. the movie was nominated for the same reason Barbie was nominated..

I can see where you are coming from, and you are definitely not wrong, but you have to realize that everyone's mind works differently, and that makes all the difference. What's a stone to someone is a diamond to others. I haven't read the book, but I will definitely give it a shot.
