@@Soccera0 That’s not how you determine what is someone valued at and even then it wouldn’t mean he’s actually that wealthy - he’d need to sell the company, which he didn’t. Even if he did, he’s not the sole owner, it wouldn’t be all his (never mind the taxes). The offer was to buy the company, meaning the company is worth less (because selling a company for the value of the company itself would be stupid unless it’s failing). And that offer is outdated. Revenue on RUclips was better back then and they’ve since made new investments.

I only use this thing to surf Amazon or watch RUclips when I'm travelling, which is one or two weeks out of the year. There's no justification for this, right? The 2018 iPad is sitting right next to me, sleeping. I woke it up earlier this week to update the OS, it still runs fine, no major decrease in battery life. My 2018 died a couple of weeks ago and the repair quote was more than it was worth. So now I have the M4 version. My advice is if you think your 2018 has another two years of life in it, then it is probably worth staying with it. The new one is a lot of nice minor improvements, but doesn’t fundamentally change anything.
My top three improvements would be the nano-texture display, the new camera position and the Smart Keyboard. This time the silver version is the way to go, looks much nicer than the black.

M4 iPad Pro owner here I work in the music and theatre industry needing a highly mobile device for touring. Upgrading from a 2016 MacBook Pro, I've found the weight difference so much better, making it easy to carry in my backpack or Pelican case without a second thought.
However, there are a few drawbacks. Some apps don't support true full screen on an external monitor, and the file system is still completely homeless, though I mainly use SharePoint. I also wish wireless mouse connectivity was better, with an actual cursor.
On the positive side, I was pleasantly surprised by the seamless USB connection with my OfficeJet 250 printer. The new Magic Keyboard feels very premium, the OLED upgrade is outstanding, and the speakers are impressive. Built-in 5G has been a lifesaver in venues and hotels with trash networks. The ability to scan and sign documents with the Apple Pencil is also elite.
Overall, I'm happy with my purchase and look forward to seeing how it improves over time.

I have an M1 iPad Pro and every update makes me really want to just get a Macbook Air.
Except only if they can give a full range hinge and a touch screen, I'd be willing to bump the price up $200 for those features, or give up on some performance if needed. There are just so many apps my iPad cant do cause they dont exist on the store, but the form factor for the hardware is second to none since M silicon.
Its a shame the products just 9/10s when they are so close to being perfect. My recommendation is to skip the Pro line and go with a $300 iPad, its an insane value and I still have one from 7 years ago that is the same in every way, just not as good in every way.

It also can’t correctly utilize a second screen. The app assumes that a 1440p monitor must be a physically smaller display so it keeps pushing low quality content and makes the interface ridiculously large. It also, for some reason, can’t get the aspect ratio of the second screen right so parts of the interface while playing a video in fullscreen are missing (as in, they’re beyond the borders of the screen). And it doesn’t work well with the pencil (many of the same issues as using a trackpad).
RUclips music app is also woefully bad as it’s literally handling the interface as though you were on a phone. The interface is ridiculously large, defaults to fullscreen mode in landscape mode which hides the playlist and controls and shows the artwork across the whole screen.
This is a general theme with Google and before you start tinking it’s an issue just on Apple devices, no it’s just as bad on Android devices. Google has always been the main offender when it came to Android tablets and foldable phones because they couldn’t be assed to make a decent interface. They completely ignore concepts such as user experience and instead push the minimum viable product.

I’m glad you addressed the fact that the M4 chip is partially designed to handle the upcoming AI needs on the iPad. You didn’t really think about how much more efficient the M4 is at power consumption and heat. The fact that the latest iPad Pro runs dual OLED and performs smoothly for GPU intensive games in such a thin shape is a feat of engineering that gets ignored.
The shelf life for this M4 will be at least 5 years so I look at it as a significant lifecycle refresh vs someone who had an AX series chip. Also yes most people will not look to edit video on this device, but rather basic tasks such as media consumption, email / messaging, and browsing with light note taking.
As a business traveler I love the lightweight of the 13” iPP. I love the new camera placement and the function row. I could’ve bought a MBA but I love taking notes and jotting down thoughts on a plane. I also like eReading. I hope that app developers like Google will embrace iPadOS and fix the bugs in their apps like YT and Google Docs. However I can get 95% of my work done on the device without all of the bulk.

I really wanted to upgrade to this Ipad for this display alone but the compression from sidecar has killed that possibility for me. I just bought a viewsonic 15" portalble OLED monitor and it's GORGEOUS and only $499. Plugs in with one cable and allows me to dial in my noise removal and grain that I add to my videos and short films. Not nearly as bright as my Ipad but COMEON Apple! If I'm using a thunderbolt 4 cable to plug directly in there is NO REASON to be compressing my image like that!

@@Steven-e7c I would not call it bad, for 95% of use you would never notice, but when it comes down to dialing in noise reduction levels and adding film grain simulation, any amount of compression is too much. I still use my M1 Ipad Pro as a second monitor with my M3 Ipad Air but I also use my 15" Viewsonic OLED as a clean feed program monitor, displaying my images with pixel accuracy. The Ipad handles my extra toolbars and such but I don't rely on it for critical accuracy. Having a portable three monitor "beast mode" macbook air setup is pretty rad and using the ipad kinda makes it possible. So I definitely recommend it but you defnintely don't need the latest Tandem OLED model for that.

@@johnlg91 I understand. Upgrading my 2018 iPad Pro is NOT a high priority but two factors make the upgrade to a M4 iPad Pro model is beneficial for me. The new thinner design provides a useful weight reduction and ergonomic benefit for stand-alone hand held browsing and pen work. (My current 2018 iPad Pro really wasn't that comfortable being used - just - as a browsing tablet. As a stationary deskbound "magic keyboard" assisted device that provides a secondary display screen to my home desktop system, this 2018 iPad is still useful and quite functional. Also, the 2018 version does NOT provide full stage manager capability when connected to my Studio Display monitor. Those are the primary reasons for an eventual upgrade. Having a fast M4 chip based design and dual OLED display is desired but not necessary for a reason to "rush on out" and upgrade. I mean, you kinda nailed it in the first section...this display is probably as good as displays that cost over 10,000. Think of it as a smart TV/monitor. I currently use m2 ipad Pro + MacBook Pro 16" and its basically perfect. I can have a multi monitor setup. I can take the ipad to watch things on the couch. I can plug my laptop into a tv, and then control it using the ipad. Its so flexible, and its the obvious intended use case, to be a supplemental device.
I think that everyone who is waiting for the ipad to replace a laptop is going to be waiting a long time...if you just use it as intended as a complement to your existing setup, it is basically perfect. That isn't to say you can't take some meetings on it, or edit some documents, its very useful, but its just not meant to replace a macbook pro. There might be some overlap with the macbook air, where if you are just checking emails, joining zoom calls, and editing documents, this might be enough.
I have found that naturally i gravitate to the iPhone for some tasks, the iPad for others, the Apple TV for others, and the MacBook Pro for others. Each has its own niche, and depending on the size of screen i want, the user interface, and the location, each one perfectly nails its niche.

    • @ryanw8664

100% agree with you, in theory. The problem is that Apple does not. The attachable keyboard and trackpad, “pro” level apps, stage manager, Apple marketing, all implying the iPad can replace your laptop. In reality, the iPad as an all-in-one device overpromises and under-delivers. That is why this argument exists and persists. Restricted to the clear use cases you identified, the iPad fits perfectly into its niche and does what it does well. But Apple is clearly trying to make the iPad capable of much more, and the result is a Frankenstein of sorts that does many laptop-like things but excels at none of them.

    • @MaximoJoshua
      @MaximoJoshua 2 месяца назад

@@ryanw8664 I don't think they are at all trying to position it as a replacement to the macbook pro, they did do that marketing campaign "what is a computer?", but as I mentioned, if you were using a MacBook Air primarily, and you are mainly doing office stuff like emails, meetings, notes, document editing, and are not a power user, it can probably work perfectly fine. For someone who just interacts with notion, google docs, zoom, and gmail, it can be your primary computer pretty easily.
That being said, there are a few tasks where it can work extremely well, and arguably better than a laptop (drawing in procreate, etc).
I would say that many users WANT the iPad to be more than it is (as many people asked that it be able to run MacOS), but I think Apple has generally been pretty clear that it isn't meant to replace a MacBook Pro or a Mac Studio.
tldr: iPad Pro can be your office computer, it's never been meant to do everything or replace a laptop for power users, it does excel at certain tasks that rely on using apple pencil.

@@ryanw8664not to mention the price. I’m also neck deep in the ecosystem but I’ve never bought Apple’s fan argument about “using it the way Apple intends”. They packed way too much hardware into the iPad, for it to be “complementary hardware”. If it just has a “buffed” iPhone chip to be used as a large iPod, mini TV as before or the base iPad, fine. This thing has laptop level hardware, great touch screen, an attachable keyboard, cost 1.5k, yet get held back by software. Apple clearly knows it too since they gutted the base iPad, making it unable to be used with the latest Apple Pencil to segment the market.

  • @BarryTGash
    @BarryTGash 2 месяца назад +9

I bought one as my first apple device. Primarily it is used to view and preliminarily edit photos I take out in the field. For studio shots I use it to control the camera - with the correct cable connecting them the lag is virtually non-existent and the huge screen is a boon for live view. Haven't tried it with any astrophotography yet.
My main gripe is pared down software meaning, 9 times out of 10, I still prefer to edit on my desktop when I'm back home. But the plus side is it should last plenty of time for things like Lightroom to get updated to a better state. As for photoshop it misses several handy filters but most can be manually recreated, like the high pass filter. That said, where it really shines is editing at a higher dynamic range (shooting at 14bit gives up to 4 extra stops).
My overall take is that if you've already got an ipad ignore it. Otherwise, and if the reasons Jonathan mentioned include you, go right ahead.
Hopefully it holds its value well.

The actual variance in the luminosity was very small (only a couple percent) and this graph makes it look huge. Also why timestamp instead of just time since the start? This graph just looks really unfinished.

I actually disagree with you on this one. Your argument would make sense if the graph was meant to compare the variance in luminosity. I bought an iPad Pro 13-inch M4 along with the new Magic Keyboard. I’m noticing an issue with the Trackpad, and I’m not sure if it’s a software or hardware problem. The issue is that sometimes the swipe to the right and left doesn’t work on the home screen, and sometimes it works to the right but not to the left. Also, the right-click doesn’t bring up the menu that usually appears with a right-click. This problem also occurs with the Magic Mouse specifically with this device, but the Magic Mouse works perfectly with other devices!
Additionally, I’m unable to left-click and drag using the Magic Keyboard Trackpad.
    Note:
If I detach the iPad from the keyboard and then reattach it, the problem disappears but comes back when I turn off the screen. Sometimes I turn on the screen, and there’s no issue! There’s no consistent pattern!
I’ve found many people online who have the same problem, but not a single RUclipsr has talked about it??
Is this a software or hardware problem?
Also swiping right or left inside the apps like Photo app does not work unless I swipe once with my finger on the screen, it starts working after doing this !!

I love how this channel takes its time with producing reviews. It gives them the kind of perspective that only comes with prolonged experience. To the people who will surely argue “Stop trying to make the iPad a laptop,” I humbly suggest they say the same to Apple. The attachable keyboard and trackpad, "pro" level apps, stage manager, Apple marketing, all implying the iPad can replace your laptop. In reality, the iPad as an all-in-one device overpromises and under-delivers.
That is why this argument exists and persists. When used for more classical tablet activities, the iPad fits perfectly into its niche as a supplemental device and does what it does well. But Apple is clearly trying to make the iPad capable of much more, and the result is a Frankenstein of sorts that does many laptop-like things but excels at none of them. iPadOS should either go back to the basics or needs a complete overhaul, but Apple needs to figure out what it truly wants the iPad to be first.

Steamlink plays fine and looks great on this. Oddly enough my biggest complaint is ... FACE ID. For something that is going to be used most of the time as a notebook placed flat on a table, you'd think they would of realized how much of a pain in the ass it is to unlock via face ID. Some type of touch id or something would of been better.
I do a lot of art and music stuff and so far its been great. I dont really use it for BS stuff (twitter, youtube, tiktok, etc) but I think I might get even more mileage adding those time waste apps on here.

Still staying on my iPad Pro 2018 and even that is debatable. I mostly use it for taking notes or university stuff, but that’s also my biggest complaint about it. I can ONLY use it in these scenarios. I can’t just treat it like a Mac and write LaTeX on it for my thesis. But I also can’t just take my Macbook with me, because I can’t use the Apple pencil on it and it’s more bothersome to type stuff out than to quickly annotate something… That really frustrates me

Honestly, if someone ever makes a virtual machine app on iPad or be able to boot MacOS in an iPad (or even Asahi-Fedora), that person will be loved by thousands of people but be sued to oblivion by Apple. I tried my friend's new iPad Pro and it was immaculate. But I don't see the need to gravitate towards it since the apps I mainly use on my Mac aren't there or are extremely bad like DaVinci Resolve. It's literally so close to perfection, all it needs is that one push.

I couldn’t do it. I got the M2 iPad Air instead. The M4 seemed too much and the OLED and Pencil features weren’t enough to make the price worth it.
I upgraded from that venerable 2017 iPad Pro which, to the new Air, seems little more than a lateral move. But it has an M2 and will supported well into the future.
I don’t believe iPadOS and macOS should merge, but something needs to be done with the iPad’s usability. Last year, bought a grad an iPad Pro for college. His choice: he knew how to use an iPhone, never used a Mac before. He still had to use his friend’s laptop for assignments, needed up getting a used MacBook as well.

2018 pro woo. honestly tho, there is zero reason to upgrade any time soon, i managed to keep running a mini2 until 2021, when apps stopped supporting the ios version, well past its obsolescence date. The 2018 will prob still be running perfectly in 2030

apple keeps pushing the ipad in weird ways because they are just not wanting to compete with macbooks, so when a product its at its limits and you have conflict of interest you push in random ackward ways the product... they need to put macos in that thing to make it usefull for everyone not just for consuming content and poor "pro" experiences, like the import image from drive nonsense and shitty timecodes... the iPad "PRO" is not worth the money for the 90% of the people that buy it... it is only useful to drawing artists, light lightroom edits, and... not much more... it will be more usefull when they get blender in it xD... hopefully...

Ipad pro's should have a dedicated OS that is similar to their actual computers. If you don't need the power of a macbook pro but want better portability than the macbook air then you would pick the ipad pro. It would fill the performance gap between the air and pro models of the macbook, having the current gen of apple silicon like the macbook pro but a cut down version of it, while the macbook air's have the full fledged last gen silicon, and be priced accordingly

I’m probably thinking of getting an M1 iPad Pro 12.9 as my first personal iPad, but I don’t know if future Apple AI features will require 16GB RAM, because the next iPhones are definitely getting 12GB RAM for AI. It’s hard finding good deals on used 1TB models online.
I just hope the iPad Air (or even iPad Mini) gets a MiniLED display soon (and maybe an M-series 16GB RAM processor for the Mini) because the Pro is just expensive, even used.

There's a reason: They "improve" the device's hardware or OS and the media runs on this for weeks, like the last time when they allowed users to place the app icons on the screen the way they like or when the company implement any other funcion android users have been using for years. It's like free advertising for a company that is slowing down on inovations, it keeps the brand "alive" for the consumer that is looking for an excuse to buy a new device or to "upgrade" and so on. Believe or not, it's pure marketing.
